Influence of chauvinism on console choice

Okay it's pretty clear that in Japan Sony is way more popular (Nin too of course) than M$ and that some of this is inspired by chauvinistic thoughts. Now I'm thinking Japanese aren't that different from Americans, so isn't it imaginable to think that the fact that 360 is outselling PS3 in the US is partially caused by this? I think it is obviously. Now does the fact that the PS3 in the US sells way better than the 360 in Japan relative to each other tell us that a lot of Americans actually do think the PS3 is better and let chauvinism not play a role for that?

The games on the 360 dont appeal to many japanese gamers while the games on the PS3 and Wii do. Theres nothing more than that. Japan does use and favor many american products, businesses, and services. It has almost nothing to do with patriotism or chauvinism

I don't know what you're talking about, but

XBOX 360 = 99% of it's games are American games FPSs and Driving games. And it' an American Console. Automatic Fail in Japan.

PS3 = Riding the fact that it's 2008 line up will be among the best ever for just one console. It's a Japanese console that the Japanese know and love from the PS1 days. It's going to have many RPGs/story driven games which Japanese Love, also GT5. Automatic Win.

PS3 will surpass the XBOX 360 in the US and Worldwide by the end of 08, it's inevitable. 360 sales are going to keep declining, especially in 2008.

Meh, I'd give it till '09. But as for the 360 doing better in America because of chauvanism, no, it's just because it's cheaper.

I don't state a point as being fact. I merely post my view of things and ask for a discussion. You state your info as a fact. I'm asking how you came by these facts. Your response clearly shows you also just post what you heard here.

The 360 isn't preferred by Americans because it's produced by an American company, that really isn't even a factor. The games, i.e. Madden, Halo, Gears, are simply more appealing to the average casual American gamer. The same goes for Japan. Believe it or not, the 360's forte, i.e. shooters (don't get to upset now), simply aren't as large of a deal in Japan as they are in America or elsewhere.

So hypothetically if the best FPS's would be on PS3 (Madden is multiplat) it would have a good chance of outselling the 360 in America?

Well, if 360's FPS's went to PS3 then the 360 would have very few games, so yeah I'd say PS3 would be in front.

That, or better games in general. Proof? PS2. Easily outsold the original Xbox, despite being a Japanese product.

Now that's a sensible post. I guess you're right. I'm oversimplifying things. Still it is one of the variables. One might say an important one. So let's say KZ2 will be very good (it could be, no clue), that could well be a turning point in US sales for the PS3.

But indeed, it's impossible to predict a complex thing like consumer behaviour by applying some model with a number of variables. (econometrists do it though. They earn loads of money. And they're very often wrong. Now that's another thing to contemplate)
