For those wanting clarification on whether the upcoming console version of The Witcher will be a "dumbed down port" or not, check out this official newsletter I recieved from being a registered member of the official site. It will indeed be built from the ground up specifically for consoles with a new engine, new combat engine, but all of the content from the PC version intact. There will be various other improvements as well, as listed in this newsletter.

There is also a reassuring message for PC gamers, letting them know that they are not going to abandon you, lol. They apparently are going to remain PC centric first and foremost, so there is no reason to get upset if they decide to do a console version of a game after you guys get the game first....like they are now doing in the case of The Witcher. Anyway, check it out if you have not already recieved or read this for yourselves:

I may consider buying the console version despite owning the pc version. It seems like they're putting alot of effort into it.

"We're not into dumbing things down in future PC releases… as an example, we're not even dumbing things down for a console release. We think that all gamers – regardless of platform loyalty – want deep story-driven games, and we're delivering what we think is the deepest console RPG yet."

Comments like that and free updates like Enhanced Edition are reasons why they're quickly becoming one of my favourite developers ..after Valve and Stardock of course.

People should have known that they weren't gonna dumb down since that they said they wouldn't. It's great to see that they're using their new resources into the console versions. There aren't many developers like CDPR.

The only way I'd buy the new version it is if there was an uncensored version available with better graphics and gameplay than the PC version. Since we all know that isn't happening, I think I'm sticking with boobtastic, ultra-violent, potty-mouthed PC copy. It's availalable now, and it's significantly cheaper than the console versions will be.

Well, not all of us have a PC that can run the game even half way acceptable, so I am sure there will be plenty who will be more than thankful for this version. The core story is going to be the same, and I am sure the violence will be as well. Boobs or uncensored sex scenes I think I can do without, as that is not why I want to play the game, lol.

As far as the PC version looking and playing better, I think that will be debatable considering that it uses the old Neverwinter Nights Aurora engine, and the console version is using a new engine entirely. Not to mention they said in the GT trailer that was released the other day that the new combat engine actually works better than that of the PC version, and that it allows for more fluid combat, which also will have new animations as well.

At the end of the day though, both versions are going to be the same story, and that is what is important, not whether one version shows boobs or not. I am just grateful that I will have the opportunity to play the game on my preferred platform. As I could not stand not being able to play this game last year, and I think it is safe to say that I am far from alone in that regard.

I wonder how much PS3 fans are looking forward to this as most of hype is centered around White Knight Chronicles.

It's not just boobs. It's explicit sex, too! Also, the uncensored was more violent, and had much grittier dialogue. If I played the other watered down versions, I'd always miss the goodies. Once you go Polish version, you can never go back. And the Witcher runs great on older hardware. Check out the "Can I run it" or "will it run" site on the PC in question, and it will give you a pretty good idea. Not that you're the slightest bit interested...

I really need to put a new computer together and get to playing the Witcher. I loved the demo... except for the excessive chugging.

Yup, sounds great and I can't wait to get my grubby paws on this RPG - one thing though, do not release this game anywhere close to the same date of M.E. 2 should it be announced for 2009 which IMO is almost 100% guaranteed. :)

I plan on getting it for the PS3, personally. As far as White Knight Chronicles goes, I have just about zero interest in it....or for that matter, any JRPG any more. The only way I will get it for the 360, is if the PS3 version is just horrible by comparison. I highly doubt the difference will be that signifigant though.

Gee, I really hope that is sarcasm, lol. Why would I not be interested if I could play the game NOW? I still am dead set on getting the console version, but if I knew my PC could run it now, I would go ahead and pick up the Enhanced Edition and play that version as well. Hell, I have like a 6 year old stock Dell Dimension 8250. Based on what I have heard, I doubt that would cut it here.

Sounds like a nice description for "We're making a hack 'n slay game instead of an RPG." I'm pretty sure it will feel more like Conan and Viking than the original Witcher on PC. I'm not saying that it won't be a good game, but I think RPG fans will prefer the PC version.

That's nice, let's at least give CDPR the benefit of the doubt and see what they do first before we just downplay what the console version will be like, shall we? By the way, I AM an RPG fan, and I cannot wait to play this on consoles.
