[QUOTE="NinjaMunkey01"]Can i have ketchup instead :(Gamespot review:
"Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the most technically stunning video game ever made."
Would you like any salad cream with your ownage?
angelkimne
I was going to put ketchup but thats the obvious choice, so i put salad cream to mix things up. :P
Sorry I dont have ketchup, what about HP brown sauce?
no one said it did, but ALMOST in SOME parts, look almost CGI like. they're that GOOD...expecially this one scene i wish there were pics for...like i said it has to be played FULLY to be appreciated.
while the cutscenes are in-engine, they are definately touched up compared to the actual game.
snakes suit in cut-scenes looks ALOT more detailed and smooth than when you are actually playing.
ogvampire
How can it be touched up when you can change the camo in real time during the cutscenes?

holy poop, it's that good people don't believe it... now will people understand why they gave it the review it got?
Gears 1 had dull and boring environments that were all grey and tan while MGS4 has a large variety of environments that range from urban areas to jungle settings that add to the overall graphics experience and makes the game more emersive.
Also when it comes to gameplay, story and character MGS4 > Gears 1....
Even if Gears is SLIGHTLY more detailed I rather play a games that has an epic single player game that has a deep story, awesome characters and very fun gameplay that lasts way longer than 8 hours unlike Gears...
Sure, the MGS4 cutscenes look like they are straight up out of a CGI movie (occasional framerate issues nonwithstanding), but to base this game's graphics on the cutscenes is just plain desperation.
The actual in-game MGS4 gameplay where you are actually controlling something, ranges from average to lackluster. Why is it that the hollow, scripted cutscenes are being used as the basis for this game's graphics? Should we start including pre-rendered video when comparing graphics next?
You put a Gears 1 in-game screenshot up to an MGS4 in-game screenshot, and MSG4 looks like a game made somewhere between this-gen and last-gen.
In MGS4's defense, when the game consists mostly of these cutscenes, and not the downgraded actual in-game gameplay graphics, does that make it ok to use the cutscenes to base the game's graphics?
WillieBeamish
Hahahaha, lol, I get it. Your just making a satirical comment there. Like saying something so over the top and crazy it can only be percieved as funny. If not, hmmmm... EP1C Fail!

in Act 2, the first cutscene where snake is camouflaged among the foliage, he looks really crisp and has nice textures on his suit, but before it switches to gameplay, you can see that it gets jaggy and has less detail
load Act 2 and be on the look out for this
MGS4's cutscenes are all in-game graphics, it's been like that since the first MGS.
Epic Fail.
shadyd1717
So you are saying that the actual gameplay portion of MGS looks just as good as when you're watching a cutscene? LMAO
Everyone here saying that MGS4 cutscenes are real time are very wrong. MGS4 cutscenes are in engine not gameplay graphics. when rendering a cutscene you do not have to account for AI and physics can be upped because there is no player input. Gears 1 is a great example of this the cutscenes look 15-20% better than gameplay, its the same with MGS4
in engine vs gameplay
downgrade confirmed
this is true with any game in engine will always look better than gameplay, just look at racing game replay mode its much better looking because you can add more AA and other effects not possible in real time.
Gears still stands tall amongst the best looking console games that have recently come out. MGS4 is a great looking name, and the character models are second to none.....but gears textures are infinitely better looking than metal gear'sSorry, Gears of war had great graphics for its time but todays standards it's just not very good. The draw distance sucks, there are alot of soft textures and frame rate really dips down at some points.
It's character models are still really good, though. But MGS4 is alot better, trust me.
ChrnoTrigger
have you played the game?
half the time... the cutscene immediately flows into gameplay, and it all looks just as good.
compare pics all you want, but until you play the game, you can't even argue.

Yes, that's exactly what he's saying. And I agree. You would too if you'd actually play it.you obviously haven't played it. the only differences between in game and cutscenes are the camera anglesmistervengeance
how can you people keep saying this nonscense it is not the same. i guess most people have no clue as to how games are made, in fact you cant find me a single game that has identical graphics in both cutscenes and gameplay taking in account AA, framerate, things on screen.

I've actually played MGS4 and I honestly can't notice a difference between gameplay graphics and cutscenes. I've noticed the same amount of aliasing in cutscenes and the textures, animation and physics don't look any better in cutscenes.

do me a favor and load up Act 2. the first cutscene where snake is in the foliage, just pay attention to his suit and the detail, then before it transitions into gameplay notice how the quality gets downgraded (less detail, a little more jaggy)
I know youtube's resolution dont do the game justice but here is what some of the CS too action is like.

well the guy did not notice that alot of the cut scenes are just closer in on snake making the detail jump out. the suit i have seen in game play get really close when the camera is right and the detail is still there.I know youtube's resolution dont do the game justice but here is what some of the CS too action is like.

I'm on my second playthrough now and I'm past that part so I'll look for that the next playthrough. Obviously the effect you're talking about isn't terribly noticeable unless you're really looking for this stuff but your average gamer who is immersed in the game isn't going to notice any minor nuances between cutscenes and gameplay.

I play games not graphics. If it bothers you that much then go write a letter to Kojima and see how much he cares. Its still way better than Gears whose cut scenes look way better than the gameplay. MGS4 is pretty much 1 to 1 cut scene to gameplay. You wanna pick at straws be my guest. I didn't see a single Jagg in my entire time playing MGS4. In the end I'll just point to the scoreboard cause that TEN speaks for itself.

It's so funny that most people (like the guy in that vid) will never see all the camera work they did when you are not shooting. I'm still trying to get "no-kills" and the cinematography (if that's what you want to call it) when you dont shoot is crazy.

Haha, at the first jump when in mid air the guy wasnt shooting anybody. I think he lost focus and was staring at the scene not knowing he was actually playing still.

i dont care about the cut-scene/gameplay difference, but when people say they are identical, then i have a problem with that incorrect statement. maybe some are playing on a sdtv or something, but its obvious to me. the cutscenes look much crisper than the actual gameplay
