well, i guess this is how alot of Nintendo fans felt back in the day, when sony(as soooooooo many cows are comparing now, lol)STOLE square from them. I hope this clears up alot of cow spin as to the "reasons" and "motives" behind this ground breaking news. also news on FF7 remake, or lack thereof. enjoy ;)

Hmm certain conditions that make Star Ocean 4 exclusive... everyone knows what that means. Square needs to cut the bull**** and just say they're supporting Microsoft there's nothing wrong with that.

honesly....that makes alot of sense :) I wonder why all the hush hush??? I agree, they should just come out and say it. I guess they've just been with them(sony) for so long, that they are trying to be civil about it and not rub it in. Speaking of that, GOOD thing some of the posters here@GS arent the "spokespersons" for square :P that would be rough

If FF VII is remade after FF XIII and FF XIII Vs. it will 90% be multiplat on both the PS3 and 360.

It square sees run away hits with all the exclusive games they are releaseing or all so releaseing on 360 you can be damned sure ff vs 13 and ff7 remake will appear on the 360.

Square enix is not a company of loyalty if sales happen they will follow sales thats a simple fact.

i honestly thought the huge final fantasy news for E3 would be the remake heading to the 360 while ff13 remains an ps3 excusive.

Now Square isn't that stupid if you meant FF VII "exclusively" on the 360. Japan says no.

There will be a remake of FFVII

Final Fantasy 1-6 were remade or remastered at least once. Why wouldn't they do it with their highest selling game in history?

Thats funny...cause Sony owns the rights to FFVII, cause they published it. Gears 1 and 2 were both owned and publish by M$...meaning they own those properties. Sony would never let FFVII go multiplat.

The way I believe Sony is thinking is first party has no chance of being bought up by Microsoft as a timed or full exclusive which seems to be Microsoft's strategy this generation. As long as they have a version of the game it's fine because the game is still on the PS3 and will get sells.

Sony would have to pay them a ton of money to keep it exclusive. Square Enix isn't stupid, they know that if they remade FFVII and released it multiplat they would be rolling in the money.

It's not unlikely that Square Enix could go full support on 360. They jumped from Nintendo to Sony after two gens, and they were supporting Sony for two gens, see where I'm going here?

I think it's more likely that they will stay multiplat with exclusives on each system just so they can make a ton of money though.

Final Fantasy wasn't exclusive after time though because it was also released on the PC. It sold more and was better on the Playstation, but it was still on the PC too.

But in order to share as much of its games as possible, wouldn't Square Enix want to make Star Ocean IV on the PlayStation 3 as well?

Money is a strong condition. Anyway, since there will be no FF VII, I wonder if the big announcement will be Nomura's new game "one goal spirit". I starved for some JRPGs...like.... badly

I agree with you. I only come to sytem wars because this seems to be where most of the activity is at on these forums, not for a pointless "war" between blind fanboys. True gamers just need to look past all of the fanboy crap. I just come around to point out flaws in either sides arguments, as well as look into different possibilities from a unbiased perspective.

Let me school you. Owning a percentage is not the same thing as owning an IP to a game. The IP (Halo 1-3) is owned by Microsoft unlike the IP FFVII. So even if Sony published FFVII doesn't mean they own the rights to the IP. And that means Square can practically do anything with the FFVII IP. Same ith Gears Of War. MS published but doesn't own the IP. Simple as that. Now go MOO somewhere else.

So even if Sony published FFVII doesn't mean they own the rights to the IP. And that means Square can practically do anything with the FFVII IP. Same ith Gears Of War. MS published but doesn't own the IP. Simple as that. Now go MOO somewhere else.

That's right. Without owning the IP itself, there's no control to be had. I don't see why people don't understand this concept.

[QUOTE="gongytron"]so maybe one day we will have ff7 on the 360?sargentbotk

i really dont think so i think certain games will stay on certain systems

If FF VII is remade after FF XIII and FF XIII Vs. it will 90% be multiplat on both the PS3 and 360.

Thats funny...cause Sony owns the rights to FFVII, cause they published it. Gears 1 and 2 were both owned and publish by M$...meaning they own those properties. Sony would never let FFVII go multiplat.

Just because they published it doesn't mean they own it. Don't make yourself look stupid now, of all times.

Oh really, well...if you look at Squares stocks...you will see Sony owning a decent percentage of them. Yes, that is right...Sony partially owns Square, and yes...if you publish a game, that means alot cause you are the one funding the project. Look at Halo 1-3. Now maybe you should turn off your computer and do something more productive then make yourself look like a fool acting like you know what your talking about.

Same ith Gears Of War. so ur saying microsoft doesnt know gears i.p but since they do own the company what happens with that then

Microsoft has a contract in place only for Gears 1 and 2. Gears 3+ is open for any platform unless Microsoft makes another deal with Epic.

This means that Epic could port the game or jump ship. But MS could then attempt to buy the IP, or pay Epic to keep it exclusive. Even paying to keep it exclusive does not always mean that it will stay that way. This holds true for any game, MGS4, GeOW, GTA, etc. If a console company does not own the IP or the developers for a game, then there is always the possibility of it not being exclusive.

With Gears of War though I'm not sure if MS owns the IP or if Epic does.

Nevermind, flamestos already cleared that up.

This whole discussion is amusingly pointless. Final Fantasy VII is already multiplat, it was released (as was FFVIII) for the PC by Eidos.

Sony Computer Entertainment holds the rights for the PSX-Version of Final Fantasy VII, and that's it. If Square-Enix decides to remake the game, they can publish it on whatever platform they want, unless someone pays them a hell of a lot money to not do so.

And as I said before it would have to be a ton of money in order to do this. A remake of Final Fantasy VII for PC, PS3, and 360 = more money than Square Enix can count.

I'm astonished that Square is supporting 360 so much, especially since it's not selling as well outside of North America. And if Square's keeping Star Ocean on 360 why not call it an exclusive? Square is too good at doging questions, we need to wait for more answers, TGS and their invite only event are soon so I guess we'll find out more then.

This is an older article but this explains why Square Enix is giving the 360 support lately.

http://kotaku.com/5009839/we-need-to-go-beyond-traditional-square-enix

Basically Square Enix wants to increase their sales in the Western market. 360 has a large userbase in North America, that buys a lot of games for the 360. It's only logical from a business standpoint (which is what matters most to game development companies, not the needs of whiney fanboys) to put some games on the 360 in order to increase sales in the Western market.

Either SO4 is a timed exclusive and you know how 3rd parties will deny until the contract is up or the will wait and see how the sales fair and then decide if they want to deal with the PS3 development cycle.

Halo 1 and 2 are both owned by Microsoft. They were ported to Windows. Can you guess who owns Windows?

Eidos is not owned by Sony, neither is Windows, which is what Final Fantasy VII was ported to.

So how exactly do I fail again? By the way, you still haven't shown your proof of how Sony owns Final Fantasy VII. Typical fanboy ignorance.
