Dunno where to put this but it is a giant iphone competing against web books with a most likely higher price point.

Awesome your judging a device that's only been revealed to the world for 40 min. You know people will buy it.Dunno where to put this but it is a giant iphone competing against web books with a most likely higher price point.

It's made by apple. That's enough for millions of people to want it.CakeBallsI think apple fanboys won't buy this. It is basically a big iphone. It plays app games, and all its apps are going to be from iphone store. I have no idea why anyone would buy this unless they are real huge apple fanboys.

Very compelling argument you got darI own an iphone. And think it is the greatest mobile device ever made. I have nothing against apple. It is that this isn't a product that has any use.[QUOTE="nhh18"]

well the price point was the biggest factor that I thought would mean that it wouldn't take off, and I was obviously wrong. Usually I'm right.[QUOTE="CakeBalls"][QUOTE="nhh18"]I own an iphone. It is apple's way of bridging the gap between the Iphone/Ipod market and the new e-reader market. I also doesn't hurt it is a much better/cooler system than the crappy netbooks that are out there.
This is probably the direction where laptops are heading anyway. Frankly, apple's success isn't just in releasing well designed and market products, but their willingness to release these products first. Now the competition is always going to be behind and producing the "ipad" clone product. Apple's genius is primarily in getting their name attached to a new technology FIRST.
iPad? you mean this one?
Back on topic, I actually expected a graphic tablet or something, oh well. Theres not way I'm getting this thing.

i dont know... the kindle's screen was made for reading for hours
have you ever tried reading for long periods on an LCD/LED screen? at least for me, it just irrates my eyes after a while

It's funny. I actually never saw the value in these types of devices but the 4+ crates in my garage stuffed with paperbacks that I've read once and probably will never read again is getting a bit ridiculous.

Nobody really knows how the screen will be for reading, but it's a fact that Apple is planning to resurrect the print industry the way it resurrected the music industry. Over the past year (probably longer), they've been securing deals with major publishers of books (including textbooks), magazines, newspaper and such. Their goal is to jumpstart the paradigm shift the print industry desperately needs.well the price point was the biggest factor that I thought would mean that it wouldn't take off, and I was obviously wrong. If I had as much time to read today as I used to before I had a kid, I would easily spend the money for a kindle. I already have an entire large bookshelf packed full of books, many of which I have read more than once, or plan to read again once I have more time. So the idea lately of buying more books is a turn off for me due to the lack of space as well as the lack of time.
well there is an app that turn your iphone in to a touch pad for you PC. so im sure using the ipad as a graphics tablet is possibleiPad? you mean this one?

Price is gonna be apple's make or break point on this. So if it ranges from 800-1000 I'd say there in a tight spot, but if they have one around 500, their golden

In the end though..the winner will be Amazon, as they will get even more ebook sales through Kindle app for ipad. Amazon wants to be iTunes of ebooks, not necessary ipod of ereaders.

I'm sure apps will make it possible, but I'd rather they invest more into the hardware instead of emulating the feature with software. What I'm talking about is the 1000+ degrees of sensitivity of a standard wacom product, if they have something like that I'll pay more attention to the product, which I highly doubt. But I'm getting a cintiq in a few months, so why would I care. :)
Btw watch that vid I linked. ;)

I'm just a little troubled that amazon can remove stuff from your kindle without your permission. These devices kind of worry me and I never feel like I truly own what I'm buying.I know what kindle is and does and how it's better for reading than regular screens, but I didn't really think it would take off. I thought it would be a small niche market.CakeBallsThat was the beauty of it. The reason it took off was because Amazon was smart to realize it shouldn't appeal to gadget geeks like us, but to typical book readers, who rarely bother with any gadgets at all. For them Kindle is a dream come true..single purpose device just doing for them they they love, without any hassle.
iPad might appeal to younger more hip people, but this segment isn't exactly the one who buys the most books

You don't truly own what you're buying. You never have. Copyright law prevents you from owning it. All you really own is the paper or ink on the page or the compact disc itself. You don't own the media. All you've ever been buying is the right to view it.Please Log In to post.
