No. Not at all.
Maybe if their games were more than just glorified Flash games they'd be a real competitor, but as it is I still haven't seen anything that can even match DSiWare.
I don't think so most of the iPhone games are flash games and the iPhone and iPod Touched are not designed specifically for videogames they were made for other things games are just secondary.

Even if the games were more than glorified flash games the iPhone still wouldn't be a threat because it isn't a dedicated gaming console.
check the sales of the iphone.... now check the sales of the ds..
do you honestly think its a threat?
Many people, really? Mind providing any proof of that?
Because THIS says the DS has nothing to worry about:P
I say this. I have the iPhone 3GS and it can easily out perform the DS in terms of graphics. It has touch... infact it has MULTI touch, and tilt, and a compass, and camera... the onyl difference between the DS and the iPhone is that the DS has a worse, smaller, lower res screen, single touch, and two screens.I got an iphone and believe me the games are NOTHING compared to DS. Theyre just simple games, nothing ground breaking
I would just like to say the iphone is pure awsomeness. Iphone could become a threat. Will have to wait and see if a big budget game gets produced for it instead of the $1.99 games it has now.
A couple of developers have already mentioned that the iphone is stronger than a Wii.

Which is developer BS. Compare any iPhone game to Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, SSBB, or Monster Hunter 3.
Actually, that's too much. Let's see an iPhone game that surpasses the PSP in graphics and then we can move on.
clearly the DSi is a response to the Apps store
there are already tons of good games on the Apps store, like Rolando, Katamari, Hero of Sparta, iDracula, iFPS, Civilization Revolution, Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid Touch
Mobile PMP and Phone gaming is getting better, nintendo is not stupid they will try to keep up with DD games.
DSiware already has gotten a lot of good indie games (10 A/AA in 4 months) and is a response to the iPhone selling 30 million plus, with iPod touch also selling 15 million
collectively i believe the iPhone/iPod Touch have sold as much as the PSP in 2 less years.
Here are some links for you who think I am crazy.Jackal1721"Cultofmac".... Seriously. The DSi is selling faster than the DSLite, than the original DS and even faster than the Wii. Do you honestly think the iPhone is a threat?

actually the iPhone has a 600Mhz CPU and 128MB system RAM (much more RAM than the wii) BUT apple forces all apps and games to be underclocked to 200Mhz, so yes it could compete with the wii if it wasn't forced to be underclocked
(also iPhone is 480x320 not 640x480 like wii)

do you think the DSi would've been made, scrath that, do you think DSiware would've been made if the iPhone didn't exist?
DSi would've prolly had no new games for it , just one camera and a gba slot and no new hardware if the iphone hadn't gotten so **** popular honestly
i think a threat to the PSP is more likely....the target markets are closer together.
If someone has an iphone, all the draws of the psp besides gaming will be undesirable. (skype, video, internet browser, music, etc all done better on iphone)
i am a pretty serious gamer, and i think only having one thing in my pocket (iphone) that is able to keep my attention with adaquate games is much better than bringing out a psp and an iphone.
i dont know what good a psp is anymore for someone like me. I dont play it at home (i have psWii60) and on plane rides i have my laptop...

The 3GS goes even further with an 833mhz processor and 256 mb of ram.
Honestly the lack of buttons was always my reasoning behind not backing the iPhone's strength as a gaming platform. But after getting one I must say you'd be surprised how well virtual gamepads and buttons work on it. It certainly is a very capable machine. However, the vast majority of people getting iPhones aren't kids or even young adults. And while there are some excellent games out for the iPhone, it's never gonna come close to the library of the DS.
I have a PSP and a DS but I rarely take them away from home, unless I'm going on some sort of trip. My iPhone is great if I just wanna blow 5-10 minutes on Resident Evil: Degeneration, The Price is Right, or the awesome (and free) port of nethack while going about my normal day. But if I'm gonna settle in for a serious session of gaming, the iPhone would likely be my last choice.

uhh, what? it has everything to do with this topic
is the iPhone a threat to DS? Nintendo says yes and makes a new DS that supports Digital Distrubtion, edges its hardware closer to the specs iPhone games use (coz iPhone games don't use all of the CPU and RAM) and brings more smaller games to the platform that normally wouldn't make it to DS retail, but to iPhone apps store.
Why make a 3rd revision if DS lite sales weren't slowing down? Why if it was still 3 times ahead of PSP? why even give the DSi new hardware, new DLC and new games unless they are competeting with the Apple Apps store
i don't think they are directly competeting right now, but nintendo is smart and setting themselves up to be prepared for when iPhone gaming gets even bigger (as the games sell in the 100ks already, just as much as WiiWare, XBLA releases)
Iwata has recently said they want to expand the appeal of the DS to a more broad use for people, like PDAs, etc. to have other functions beyond gaming. this clearly is a response to devices like the iPhone bing good for games AND having numerous multimedia functions and the good sales to boot.
its not like PSP was presenting a threat anymore sales-wise but the iPhone is

truth. i had forgotten about 3GS.
look at those specs, 256MB RAM and 833Mhz CPU! heck Zune HD is going to have the same specs and its a PMP!
a software update for 3GS games would really make the Wii look bad, i'm kinda happy it is underclocked for nintendo's sake.
games with virtual buttons take getting used to, but i've foudn they work out fine after a while, still some games won't work but RE4 worked fine for me

Yeah, I kinda have to agree. My PSP has taken a more serious hit in its usefuleness to my collection than the DS. Though with some of the fantastic games coming out for the PSP in the next 12 months I wouldn't consider selling it either. My PSP used to be my multimedia device and a good handheld to boot. Now it's gonna be like a couple of my other systems: a platform that only gets brought out when a great exclusive comes its way.
On another note, I think a big thing that will keep the iPhone from seriously competeing with the PSP and DS as a great handheld is gonna be software prices. People routinely will spend 30-40 bucks on a good handheld game. I think the most I've paid for any game on the iPhone is 5 bucks, and most of what I have currently on my phone was either free or $.99. I don't believe most would ever consider spending DS or PSP game prices on iPhone games, and that's gonna limit the amount of resources devs put into the system.

true true
its all about how much content they put into iphone games for a max of i'd say $20.
some of the games, like Rolando, deliver PSP/DS like quality and content for $6 but its up to how much payback the devs think they will get in return for working even harder

It has 88MB RAM, the 512MB is Flash memory.
Although, the CPU speeds for the iPhone 3G and 3GS are only clocked to 412 and 600mhz respectively, despite the hardware technically able to do the specs listed before. Wii has a CPU clocked at 729mhz.
The large difference between the Wii and iPhone is probably due to the GPU, which for Wii has been clocked at 243mhz (along with 3MB of texture memory).
Apple has not released the specifications for the iPhone's GPU, apparently has about the same power as the Dreamcast, which used a 100mhz GPU.
Besides, the Wii CPU can process data faster and with less RAM because it uses out of order processing, while the iPhone uses slower in order execution.
