I read recently about how people in foreign countries peceive the United States. I was surprised how the US was viewed rather negatively by the world. A lot of the negativity was due to how the US handles Iraq, the arrogance of it all.

I know the 360 will have a hard time in Japan regardless of the war. But in Europe, 360 sales are declining rapidly relative to the PS3. Could it be because of the Iraq war? To me, the war plays a role. A small role or a large one? I am not sure.

UPDATE: The world actually likes China more than the US. I am shocked. here's a link--there's a chart at the bottom of the page ranking countries by positive, negative views. http://www.globescan.com/news_archives/bbccntryview08/

Other parts of the world hated U.S. even before the war. Maybe the fact that in terms of quality hardware, the 360 is complete crap, they think everything that comes from the U.S. sucks. American cars are terrible too

Debating anything regarding Iraq and the war leads to politics and politics on a gaming forum is never a good sign for anything but a locked thread.

In Sweden the majority of people think americans are stupid and don't know anything about the world outside the U.S.

I would imagine some folks have a rather negative view of communist China, and that doesn't stop most of us from buying a good portion of goods that are made there...

I believe that. The Camry is the most stolen car in America. (another thing wrong with the states). They take them to the chop shop and sell the parts, and they sell the most, because its a common car.

There must be something wrong with me, because I find it hard to care what any of Europe thinks about America.

But, as to the topic I don't see why Europeans would stop buying something made in China because the corporation that sells it is based in the US.

 What about these block buster Hollywood movies about wars? It still sells well on these countries you talk about, and some are even bootleg. Just like Bush saying Saddaam had something to do with 911, the Iraq war and 360 sales, has no kind of connection. Can't wait for Bush to get out the office though.

That explains why the rest of the world is no longer supporting Walmart, Coke, AMerican music acts, American movies, McDonalds, etc.

Oh wait...they are.

No. People aren't supporting the 360 for other reasons we can't really be certain of. I suspect it is because they 360 is targeted to really only appeal to American gamers who prefer PC but are willing to buy at least one console...and, of course, people who only care about playing console FPS online.

While the 360 has done a decent job of trying to broaden its game library, it is still nowhere close to the range, size and diversity offered by the PS1 and PS2. People still view it as the FPS, Arcade Racer console. MS should be working overtime to overcome that image, but they spend all their time and money promoting XBL...which is mainly used for FPS and Arcade Racers.

I don't think so ... because even the iraqi people listen to american music , buy american products , watch american movies , etc... so it's not about the war really , maybe the bad hardware , or the hype of the ps3's 2008 library ( gt5 , mgs4 specifically ) ... probably the latter

Let's not get into the whole Guantanamo and refusal to ratify the Kyoto agreement things. . .

However, politics have precious little to do with the sales of a video game console.
The only way the Iraqi war might affect it is if it somehow damages the U.S economy, thus hampering the market.

Last time I checked there is a city called Detroit where Chevy and Fords are made, and secondly the only reason japanese cars are manufactured in the U.S. is because market is strong for them and not only that its heck of a lot easier to make them here then to have to worry about shipping the cars over seas.

It is true that more foreign cars are manufactured in the US now, but the reason is because of trade agreements with other countries. But the quality control methods are still in place in these factories that were in there home land. I am American and I would rather by something from other countries than I would from here in the US. My choise of automobiles are Acura/Honda over any of the big three.

As for the hate of the US in some regions and religious groups this has been going on for years. The religious fanatics have been trying to bomb the World Trade Center for years before 9/11. I don't think the Iraq war is making that much of a difference in world views because there are a lot of smaller countries that are trying to help fund the war with there money and troops.

Japan is one of the big supporters with funds on the war against terrorist groups that last I heard.

The main reason some things made in the US don't meet the quality of other products from other countries and many people around the world knows this and they refuse to buy the products.

The need for Fossil Fuels is a reason to hate America? Well you better put China up on your hate list because they use quite a bit themselves, and with the economic growth driving up fast and with that amount of people living there they could surpass the U.S. We don't help 3rd world countries? Why don't the third world countries get a decent government in that knows hows to apply the rule of law and they wouldn't be so poor, you ever hear of corruption? Bully Boy tactics? Don't give me that crap about decimating natural habitats, every damn country in the world needs resources and they are going to do whatever it takes to get them. :|

That's spot on. A lot of sensible americans refuse to buy american products because of it as well(myself included). Mainly the cars

[QUOTE="f50p90"]Other parts of the world hated U.S. even before the war. Maybe the fact that in terms of quality hardware, the 360 is complete crap, they think everything that comes from the U.S. sucks. American cars are terrible toojimm895

That a better point....Even the IPOD is having problems right now because of using cheaper parts.

Is that it? I don't know if it's true but I heard somewhere that Japanese cars are manufactured in the states, and american cars are manufactured in Mexico. Whatever the reason, your common Fords Chevy's and Pontiacs *shutter* are crap compared to your common Hondas and Toyotas, and European makers too

to prove my point, about the school system there

Nice subject change!!

The usa shcool system at least for grade shcool is retarded and now to make it seem less retard they are trying to restrict/control homeshcooling in many parts of the US because its makes public shcools look like crushed poptart crust.

I read recently about how people in foreign countries peceive the United States. I was surprised how the US was viewed rather negatively by the world. A lot of the negativity was due to how the US handles Iraq, the arrogance of it all.

Negative perception of America = negative perception of the 360?

I know the 360 will have a hard time in Japan regardless of the war. But in Europe, 360 sales are declining rapidly relative to the PS3. Could it be because of the Iraq war? To me, the war plays a role. A small role or a large one? I am not sure.

xscrapzx

????? the negative perception of america. not just the war in the middle east my friend. you can also add denying 3rd world countries aid and refusing to wipe debt, carbon emissions, bully boy tactics in industry, us companies buying water rights of poor countries, decimating natural habitats for fossil fuels etc etc,and this is coming from a friend of america! imagine what the people who hate you must think! but stop. this is sw wars not political debate. so to your question. hell no

fine and good...go to Holland or London and count how many gas guzzling SUVs you see there. then compare that to US consumption. and i'm sure its really easy for a starving 3rd world family of four to overthrow a military dictatorship? wrong. we couldn't even do that with Iraq. so go take your right wing overgeneralizations elsewhere.

Are you really going to sit here and try to compare a country that is about the size of New England in the United States and compare it to the entire consumption of the U.S? You are kidding right? Secondly never did I say it would be easy for a 3rd world family of four overthrow a military dictatorship, I stated a fact the reason they are poor is because of corruption, and even if we wanted to go and help them. We would probably get shot at because the government wants to have that type of control over its people, or because we are hated. Actually we did do that with Iraq (Is suddam still in control?).

sigh's i dont want to do this

the us is a huge consumer of oil, the us voters demand cheap fuel to drive those ridiculously huge cars, if the price of oil went up voters would oust anyone who did that, because so many us politicians and business men have a vested interest in oil companies there is no way they want to see alternatives even discussed. do you seriously think bush would have anything to do with the middle east if it wasn't for this fact?

now i could go on forever about the us involvement with 3rd world countries, but heres 2. the us(because of their silly views on sex/safe sex/abortion) have refused poor aids/hiv ridden countries condoms and sex education. the us (and many western countries) have supported dictatorships when it has been to their advantage and pulled out as soon as there is nothing left to milk

again oil raises it's ugly head when it comes to natural environments, take alaska, where an unspoilt area is begin developed with no regard to the people and wildlife that live there, again so you can drive a big car cheaply

i'm going to stop now, sorry to all for being so off topic, but he got my goat
