Hello friends,

So i was watching some videos and i found this.

And while watching this video. it make me realize that 4A games are close to becoming the next Valve. since Valve do not make games anymore. i think 4A replace them. Metro games are story driven linear FPS games just like Half life were long before. but instead of focusing on puzzles Metro emphasize on its Excellent atmosphere.

there was a time when i was so wanted Half life 3. but its 2018 and i realize it will never ever going to release. and thankfully because of 4A i dont even missed valve. theres other developer like id Software that are as good as valve but their games lack on story department unlike Metro which offer one of the greatest storytelling in FPS genre has offer.

When First 2 Metro games continue the legacy of Half life. the 3rd game will not only continue the legacy of Half life but Also Stalker too. since its both. linear and non linear.

so my dear friends, did 4A games replace Valve?

Lets discuss.

Prey felt most like Half Life games to me:

Interesting story, filled with a lot of interesting combat engagements and the game never took you out of the first person perspective, drawing you in more.

yea Arkane games have a 'Valve' feel to them for sure, If i'm correct they were actually working on HL2: EP 3 at one point before it got cancelled (or something like that)

I love 4A games but I'm not sure they remind me that much of Valve.

It seems like a lot of developers were working, or looking into working some kind of Half Life Episode, more like spin offs to be clear.

Arkane was supposed to make a Return to Ravenholm spin off. GVMERS has a pretty in depth video on it:

Arkane was also working on an online shooter together with Valve: The Crossing, but both projects got cancelled somewhere in development.

After that Arkane was purchased by Bethesda and it went uphill for them :)

I love the alien design, because unlike 99% of aliens out there they aren't just weird humans:

Two legs, two arms, a waist, a head, eyes, ears... yup, seems like a weird human to me.

I like more abstract Alien design:

i'd also go with arkane over 4a. the dishonored games and even prey and bioshock 2 to a lesser extent are closer to the half life games, quality wise. the dishonored games also had the lead visual dev from half life 2 working on them iirc.

prey definitely has a half life 1 vibe to it, it was let down a little by a few niggly things like the enemy design being frustrating at times to play against, but it still showed a lot of the thought and attention to detail valve used to deliver. to me the metro games are good, but not great. i always preferred stalker as a series including clear sky

I also prefer Stalker over Metro but thats a bit stretch.

clear sky was trash and worst Stalker game. Stalker SoC was masterpiece and COP was great as well.

Metro Last Light was decent... I enjoyed it. But even now, by today's standards, it does not hold a candle to Half Life 2.

EDIT: I did enjoy the theater very much.

Ghost it's time to stop posting now, really just stop. How many threads do you need to create a week telling us how much you wank off to metro, Mafia and Max Payne? It's embarrassing at this point.

Halflife 2 gameplay is in a constant flux that usually escalates to something.

Running around in cramped sewers getting chased by an unkillable helicopter = Open water level with players boat augmented to deal with it

Sand (lava) that triggers enemies = Storming a prison as FPS Pikmin

Incrementally accumulated weapons over 8+ hours against a final barrage of the most difficult enemies in the game while a city gets wrecks in a civil war = All weapons removed, gravity gun augmented to work on anything

Metro hasn't really got any of this.

-

Likewise Halflife 2 is cinematic without taking control from the player. That amazing shot when you open the doors to City17? When the player catches a small glimpse of a Strider casually on patrol? Or on the rooftops, the player instinctively turning to see see two gunships roar past?

Metro, and many other games (i.e. Naughty Slog), would directly take control from the player rather than have the level design funnel them naturally and unquestioningly.

Or Tutorials. Most games, blunt as a brick outright spell out what to do. Pick up that can ties directly into exposing the player to the world and teaching them the environments are interactive. Or deliberately funneling the player with a crowbar and boxes, or having fire oil drums roll a safe distance ahead to show they are can be dangerous, as well as timed explosives. Or throwing up HL signs to encourage them to explore.

Metro generally has more in common with something like Call Of Duty. Scripted animations pop off, player control taken go into area, blast things, repeat. It's certainly better than the majority of Call OF Duty titles, but it's no Halflife 2. An incredible masterpiece that's not overrated with superb see-saw puzzles.

Metro has more half life feel than COD.

beside Metro Exodus getting sandbox level design so if any feel of COD there will be lost. its more like Stalker.

Metro Exodus is one of the games I'm most looking forward to, along with Ace Combat 7 and of course, Red Dead Redemption 2.

The E3 2017 reveal - running on a PC spec said to be "comparable" to Xbox One X, with a few extra (quote) "graphical flourishes" for the trailer. I will take that to mean not raw gameplay footage, yet not some pre-rendered CG either.

True that, using the shitty ammo in Metro reminds me a lot of firing a gun in COD.

I havent played the Metro games, so I can't say but every video I have seen does make it seem very atmospheric.
