Is MGS4 60 fps? I think it was at 30 fps though

I guess so to some extent. Ninja Gaiden/ DMC are so fun and I love the fast pace action in those types of titles. I never really cared with Madden though for some reason.

It depends on the genre.

To push RPGs to have 60 FPS would be a waste of time IMO but it should be standard in racing and fighting games.

You could debate that in Action/ RPGs Maybe games like Mass Effect also.

Zonoe of the Enders is one that stands out to me.

I thought the human eye could only see up to 27ish?

As long as a framerate is consistent im fine with it. But if theres any dips then it becomes noticable.

when something looks as good as crysis and has as much motion blur, 27-35 fps is no problem.... otherwise, i'd want 30 and above for fps and hopefully 45 and above for fighters and racers.

Alright, action RPGs like Mass Effect, kingdom Hearts etc etc could be better with it but it's still not the most important thing in the games, you aren't always in combat in RPGs like you are racing in racers of fighting in fighters. The combat is usually slow enough that having 60fps wouldn't really make a difference.

Having 60fps in every game would be amazing but right know when getting 60fps in games can be a hassle I rather have the devs focus on more important issues in different genres.

EDIT: I wouldn't really call Zone of Enders a RPG though, more of an action game IMO.

Most fpses don't really need 60fps. Games like Halo and COD don't have people moving fast enough to really make it a requirement. Unreal Tournament on the other hand really benefits from it.

If I recall, 1000 fps is the perfect framerate regardless of how fast and close a travelling object is to you since everything will blur naturally. Of course, seeing as displaying, heck even rendering 1000 fps is extremely tough not to mention no game will have you travelling at light speed at ground level, it'd be much more efficient to settle for artificial blur and a stable framerate in the 30's.

60 fps is only necessary for fighters and games with replay.

Does anyone know how many fps Halo 3 was? BecauseI can tell when i'm in theater that it looks choppy when I go slo-mo. That being said, it still looks smooth in normal motion which is what counts.

all depends on he game play. like mario galexy no. cod4 maybe not, but a crazy game like superstar dust or wipeout that has alot of color moving fast. burnout paradise if not on 60fps would suck.

depends on the game.

I hated the framerate dips in Ninja Gaiden 2. It was like watching The Matrix at times. (at the long stairs).

for fighting games and action/adventure games. I rather have jaggies and 60fps than clear crisp graphics and intolerable frames.

I honestly don't care too much as long as the framerate is constant. 30 FPS locked is fine for me for 99% of games. Sure 60 is better, but I don't think the difference is much of anything.

30fps is fine but imo all companies really should try for 60fps is it's possible. I would probably choose to have nicer graphics at 30fps for most games over slightly worse looking graphics at 60fps but if it's possible to do both then that is what I would like to see.

For example; even though The Conduit on Wii is a decent looking game I still think it should be running at 60fps rather than 30fps. I mean if MP3 can run at 60fps, and that looks pretty much as good as The Conduit technically, then I don't see why the guys at HV can't push the Wii to run The Conduit at 60fps also.

LOL call of duty is fast?

doom3 running at 30 fps is faster than call of duty running at 60 fps....because of the game speed/running speed itself.

the higher the framerate the more smoother the freelooking.

The AF I can understand, but if you have to trade off between higher resolution and 4xAA, go with the higher resolution. High resolutions reduce the need for AA and you'll be able to make out more distant objects (important in shooters, particularly those with sniper-type roles).

If you have a game averaging 60 fps and then you have spots in certain levels of the game where it drops to 30 fps and fluctuates how all games are...you will notice the drop from 60-30 fps because the sensitivity of the game's aiming/freelook will change.

Yes but it depends on the Genre if it is an RPG, Stealth, or Survival Horror game I don't mind a slower frame-rate but if it is something else I want to framerate to atleast be 60 FPS.

my point was that ppl have complained before about games which run above 30fps but is not locked at 60.... so the difference is hardly noticeable....

and it depends what game you play which determines if you are going to notice or not

All the F-Zero's after X and Including X were at 60 FPS. All three Metroid Prime games were at 60 FPS. Mario Galaxy is at 60 FPS but Sunshine was at 30 FPS. Rage will be at 60 FPS but Doom 4 will be at 30 FPS.

Well, Sunshine was understandable. All those water effects probably pushed the GameCube's hardware a bit much to get away with 60fps.

as long as the minimum fps never drops below 25 the difference is negligable and also motion blur plays important role ( if a game is crisp with no motion blur even if is at 40-50 fps the human eye still experiance shuttering but considering most of the games support motion blur i say isnt that important)

A link explaining all that
