I wouldn't have an argument to this if there wasn't a few examples of games that last 10 hours+ and keep you busy and excited. Then again, I would rather have a 7 hour, action packed time than a 45 hour sleep off.

OMG yes 7 hours for $60 is not near long enough. Heck Heavenly Sword doe snot even have online. So for $60 you get 7 hour single player then that is it. That is lame

I wouldnt mind as long as the game had a large amount of replay value. Like starfox 64, that game was short as hell but I must have played it through at least 50 times.

Depends on how many times I can play through it. I remember MGS on the PS1, I got to the point that I could beat it in what felt like a few hours- but I beat it so many times I ended up racking up about 50ish hours total play time.

I thought gears of war sucked for being 6 hours long (normal, first play through) and without having xbox live i would have probably returned it in the morning, online was its saving grace, heavenly sword doesn't have such a thing and because of it a 7 hour long single player only game just isn't worth my money :D simple as that.

120$ for xbox 360 normal, Microsoft Published are normally 80-100$, 120-130$ for Playstation 3 normal price and it doesn't matter if its published by sony or not there prices are constant ^_^ I know how you feel, glad I'm mainly a pc gamer, 70-90$ is enough to pay for any game period :D

7 hours isn't bad. And short experiences aren't bad. It's just the fact that you have to pay $60 for such an experience. That isn't worth it.

... Can you finish any of the NES/SNES mario games under 7 hours?!? (freakin' awesome games)

... Have you ever fell asleep to a xenosaga cut scene? (I have)

... So now, Longer game play = better game play? what happened to better graphics = better game play?... How about better game play = better game play. Besides, this game was never hyped for the gameplay (dev. wise)

Honestly... I'd rather play a game in which I remember most of the characters names and the purpose they play... rather than a game in which after 40+ hours of game play, I'm proud of the fact... I finished 40+ hours of gameplay... now if I only remembered what the main character's name was....

Not a Sermon... Just a Thought.

6-7 hours isn't bad as long as there is replay value... meaning, you won't see everything on one run through the game, or there are other solid gameplay modes (like multiplayer, or the mercenary style timeruns in RE4).

In the case of Heavenly Sword... it sounds like the former. Once you beat it in 6 or so hours, you're done. Sounds like a rental to me.

Depends on your age really. If you are an older gamer who grew up on Contra, Super Mario Bros, Mega Man and games on the NES, then no, nothing is wrong with a seven hour game as long as it has replay value. I can speed run Link to the Past in under 7 hours, and have still put more than 100 hours into the game mainly because its fun, it's short enough that I don't have to dedicate a large chucnk of my life to it, but still long enough to enjoy. I have gotten more value out of that game than any 40+ hour dragging RPG or overly long action game.

Super Metroid can be beaten in under 3 hours, and is one of the greatest games ever made, its replay value having a lot of say in that. With no cutscenes, Metal Gear Solid is a 4 hour video game. Even in the last generation, Shinobi, Freedom Fighters, and Panzer Dragoon Orta were some of my favaorite games and can be beaten in under 10 hours, all because of their replay value. I just beat Stranglehold in just over 6 hours and can't wait to get back...why? Because I grew up replaying old video games, and I still replay old video games. If I owned a PS3, and the only real complaint about Heavenly Sword is the fact that its too short, then it would be the first game I would buy since I'm sure I would play it several times.

If you are a young gamer, then yes, short video games are bad since games today are made to not have such obvious replay value. (because if games are made to have replay value, then people would not buy as many games) Lazy video gamers will have no reason to look back on their favorite games, and will simply move to the next one. 7 hours games suck since young gamers only play their games once, and they will feel like they did not get their moneys worth.

Heh. 7 hours.

I can get that in a good day of any game.. Not worth anything more than a rent for anything that short, unless it has high replay value - but it sounds like it doesn't.

Umm yeah it is bad. Why pay $60(or $120 in Australia!!) for a game you're done with in a few hours? Might as well rent it over the weekend. Cheaper and you get to finish it.

If there is an incentive for me to beat it multiple times in different ways, then the length of the game initially (within reason) isn't incredibly important to me. Example- Gears of War. Not a super long game, but you are encouraged to beat it at least three times (if you don't just go through it on Insane difficulty the first time).

Exactly. There were a ton of threads about this was claiming the shortness of the game was due to the DVD format of the 360. Now I see threads from cows that a short game is cool as long as you have fun. Whatever works, this is SW. I own both HS and GeOW and like them both.

Yes, a seven-hour game is a terrible thing. That's three movies. I could spend 18 dollars over a weekend at matinees for the same length of entertainment as I would get for 60+500 (for the PS3 if you don't own already)

60 bucks for a 6-7hour is laughable and is a game I would never buy. The fact that you can beat the game the same day you buy it and prolly still have time to take it back to walmart is really sad.

well, for the money we spend, and the time it took just to make that game, the game should be longer. at least double digit numbers! 10-13 at least. 7 hours? and I think IGN said 6 hours. I have that strategy game with the bugs for LIVE ARCADE and I think that game is as long as Heavenly Sword, can't remember exactlyhow long, but for 10 bucks its worth it.

besides, its not fair that people killed Gears of War cause it had what? 10-13 hours of gameplay I think, and now people want to defend HS, goodness gracious at least Gears of War had Co-op and versus multiplayer, so you can at least get more enjoyment out of it, regardless if you like the multiplayer or not.

even if they had to add a cheesy multiplayer to HS, it would have made the game worth a purchase, and then not by much.

I cant speak for stranglehold or bioshock but geow didnt take me 6-7 hours to beat. That was a fairly long game on hardcore and insane or whatever was pretty long. Put it this way I couldnt beat geow the same day I bought the game. It seems with HS that this is very possible to do.

it depends on how you feel at the end of the game.

If you felt it was complete then the games length justifies itself. If it left you wanting more then no, it is unacceptable.

Yes, in today's industry, a 7 hour game is a terrible value. When I pay $70 for a game that has a budget of tens of millions of dollars, I either expect a decently long first experience and/or enough replay value to last forever.

This is one thing I am starting to hate about the gaming industry. Developers are too focused on providing a cinematic experience when mmost gamers just want a fun gaming experience that they can play over and over and over. At least... that's what I want.

Thenumber of peoplenow defending a 6 hour game now is unbelievable...when Gears came out all you heard was the game sucked for being so short. Now that the PS3 has a game that is even shorter, length does not matter and in fact shorter is better according to some.

I could care less what console you prefer or even how fanatically you support such console, just don't make yourself look bad in the process.

I thought gamespot said 6 if you were a decent player? 8 if you're not ...

I wonder how much of this is actual gameplay because everyone has been raving about how good the numerous cutscenes look. Does it actually mean there's only 4-5 hrs of actual gameplay?
