Lets see hmm:

Core 2 Duo E4300 Allendale 1.8 GHZ €169
Cooling €30, his is needed to overclock the processer over 3 GHZ

Asus P5N-E SLI with nVidia Nforce 650I sli, integrated sound, 1016 mhz FSB €115

Buffalo 2 GB DDR2-800 RAM €139

Nvidia 8800 GTS 320 MB €300

Seagate 400 GB 7200 RPM HDD €129

Cheapass PC case €50

Chieftec 620 Watt Powersupply €99

Lite-on DVD burner €30

Acer 19' moniter 700:1 contrastratio, 2 ms responsetime, 1280x1024 pixels €209

Mouse and Keybord €50

Windows Vista FREE

A complete Gaming PC with everything for just €1300.

This setup will even kill a PS3 or a 360 in sli mode.

This is with tax and average price, if you look around the net you can find cheaper prices.

Good HDTV €1000
X360 €400
PS3 €600

A X360/PS3 HDTV combo will cost you more, and this pc will last at least 2 years and can play every game now on high settings.

PC gaming is not that expensive at all, considering you alreadt have a pc you only have to upgrade.

This kill the argument that PC gaming is expensive.

Correct me If I made a mistake

Edit: The monitor can also be used for the X360, so the costa of a HDTV are not necessary, If the PS3 can use PC monitors, I dont know.

My gaming PC cost $1200 and that was with a $100 rebate. It's expensive, yes.

PC gaming is more expensive....but when you buy a PC there are hundreds and thousands, of use for it, outside of gaming. Consoles dont have that.

Why are you including an HDTV in the price of a Console though is the real question...

Because consoles aren't **** without an HDTV. And we all know that you bought that HDTV just to play games, there are barely any HD channels as of yet.

I don't have an HDTV...

Fact is that an HDTV isn't required to play a Console. It's not even logical to include it into the price...that's desperation on the part of anyone who claims that an HDTV should be part of a Consoles price.

for anyone that buys at least 1 computer every 5 years the real cost of pc gaming is just to cost of a good video card and some extra ram. that's all. everything else is pretty much what you can get with the pc you'd buy anyway. the extra cost would be 600ish bucks at most. the games would be cheaper too.

Ah, right. Well, that increases the cost of a PC. I guess it's easier to burn a rented game than steal a game.

you cant burn rented games normally....you need special software. and then essentially trick your computer into thinking it has an extra CD drive.

or i could buy a 22'' widescreen with my 360 all for about 700 cause i have to buy the cables and it lasts me 5 yrs and i dont have to worry about it. then i suppose you will say such a small screen but when its sitting about 3 feet away and im the only one playing why would i need anything bigger?

If you really want to look at the prices objectively you cannot compare a $1000 HDTV to a $200 moniter. Especially since you can hook up a console to the moniter that you priced at $200. I agree that PC gaming is not very much more than consoles but really man you are not making your point when you start adding things in that are not the same things. I bet for less than $1000 you can find a closeout 45 to 50 inch rear projection that will do 1080i. Bring the computer specs down a bit and ditch the moniter and HDTV and you will have a more honest comparison.

all Monitors are HD. Even the super old CRT monitors. there are even some that go at about twice 1080p.

Vista for free, eh? Well, if I stole that PS3 off the back of a truck, that would knock $600 off my price. So let's go ahead and do that, shall we? In fact, I think I'll jack the 360 too. So all I'm left with is the cost of an HDTV. This is beyond the fact that, as you clearly stated, the hardware will play games for the next 2 years. Then what? More money for upgrades! A console will last usually 5 years. PC gaming is expensive (but that doesn't make it bad).

You can get Vista for free or extremely cheap if you work for a business that uses it, but of course this does not apply to everyone.

vista is practically free with any new pc. I buy a new pc at least every 4-5 years so the cost of making it into a gaming pc is around $600 more than i would have spent anyway.

Maybe because without the cost of the HDTV he just tacked on it costs three times as much?

Like I said before.... if you were really Hell bent on squeezing HD out of the consoles you could just use that PC monitor.

That would require you to buy a Dell or HP or whatever, not build your own system at discount pricing (let's face it, those companies rip you off).

Of course it's more powerful - it costs three times as much (more actually) than a 360.

If you want HD with the console you don't need that expensive HDTV either, you can use that same monitor he included in that PC list.

I am not a console people. I just think the TC's console purchases are incorrect.

Well, when I say "console people" I am referring to more then one person so you should say that you are not a "console person" instead of "a console people". Either way adding unnecessary purchases to the price of something that you have already purchased and claiming that it is necessary is ridiculous.

The face value of PC gaming is certainly more expensive, but by no means does this mean jack in the long run. Over the span of a generation you could spend conceivablly less on a gaming pC than consoles. I've spent about twice as much on my 360 of a year than my PC of two.

No problem. Who factors in an HDTV for console costs? You can play fine on a 19" monitor with a PC, but you suddenly need an HDTV for consoles? Use the same display for both price comparisons, please.

You do not have to upgrade your pc in a few months, only in a couple of years, 2 or 3.
