For someone already owning a console and a fullHD tv.
pc = better graphics, mouse/keyboard and mods but not many worthy pc exclusive games afaik, yet miss out on alot of console exclusives.
Does that justify a 1000+ dollars gaming rig?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I'm getting far better value and a much better experience from my PC. So yeah, dropping 600+ on a rig is definitely worth it.
Sure. Just depends on what you want. Me? As soon as I got a gaming rig I almost completely stopped gaming on my consoles except for the Wii. Hell, I even sold off my 360 and don't regret it at all. However, PC has the largest quantity of games I want and usually the superior version of console games. However, if you prefer Halo or Gears or God of War, or Rockstar games (they haven't been showing the PC love lately) just stick with consoles. Really, it is down to the games you want to play. Controllers don't matter, since you can use an X-Box 360 controller or PS3 controller on any PC game. You can hook your PC up to a TV and play from your couch just as easily as consoles, so that excuse is out.
Oh, and that FullHD TV you have...you don't really need it with consoles since most games run at 720p and below. :P With a PC you can go up to 1080p, though.
Does that justify a 1000+ dollars gaming rig?

1000$?!
600-700$ is well enough for a gaming PC to play everything at max and beyond, if you already have a damn monitor. And if you already have a kb/mouse, than that's even more better.
Hell, you can get it much cheaper with some deals, like selling your old PC to cover more of the cost. (did that here). Never mind that you can get other parts cheap as heck from other places.

Boggles the mind. People pay thousands of dollars for a nice large HD TV.... and then they hook up a crappy console which renders most games at SUB-HD resolutions to it.
It's like building the awesomest, audiophile, 8 channel soundsystem ever... and then hooking up a casset player to it.
Thing is for most people the investment in a gmaing Pc is actually fairly small.
If you have a relatively recent PC (say wihtin the last 4 years) all you need to do is buy a $125 or so vidoe card and BAM! You got yourself a gaming rig. Access to thousands of exclusive classic and modern games, cheaper games, and the best version of multi-plats.
For that person I think it's just pure silliness NOT to at least try PC gaming.
For the dude with a crappy laptop or a relaly old desktop that would have to invest $500-$600 for a new rig (That's all you need BTW, TC. You don't need $1,000 to have a decidedly superior experience) it's a toss up, but I still think it would be worth it.
Hell, just the cheaper and more numerous games would sell it for me. The graphics, the mods, the performance and the exclusives are the icing on the cake.
That depends. First of all do you need a new PC, I'm not talking about games. For example I had to buy a new one since the one I had was kinda slow and just couldn't stand XP anymore. So I said what the hell, let's drop 200 more bucks and make it a gaming PC. Are you interested on mmos or rts? Do you find mods fun? Controls or indie games?
Hard to tell if it is worth for anyone but for me it was since I needed a new pc anyway plus liked mmos and mods.
Maybe I'm not looking hard enough but I can't find enough worthy pc exclusives. :\ I used to be a pcgamer. Now I only play Minecraft. (and quit WoW)PetJelWell, if you feel that way, then it's not for you.
All PCs are gaming PCs. It just depends on what games you want to play. I have a Mac and I have to play Star Craft 2 on low settings...but it is still an awesome game.
let me see a $300 device that can only do gaming and movies and is not a necessity
A $600-800 device ( you dont need to spend $1000 ) that among other thinks can do gaming and a million other stuff and in most homes i guess is a necessity
Guess which is the better value
Forgot to mention, this is specially true now a days.
The next consoles aren;t coming for like 3+ years. While they will still get some awesome games, and you'll still be playing them until then, the technically impressive titles will be on PC, and the indie PC devs will continue to innovate.
So:
Cheap PC hardware.
Cheap PC games.
Great number of exclusives.
Better Graphics/performance/occasionnaly gameplay
And a long console lifespan this gen
=
A gaming PC being a good investment.
And for most people that's just a $100 video card, for the rest it's $500-$700 but it's a PC. It's not just a game box. So not only will you be playign great games ona great system, you'll also be able to edit that HD fmaily video lickity split.
I hear ya. However one can buy 40+ lower priced console games or get a drivers licence for the price of a gaming pc. Keep in mind I can already play most triple A's on the console. :\let me see a $300 device that can only do gaming and movies and is not a necessity

FULL HD is a stupid term, what is 2560x1800 then? Not blaming you, its just an annoying marketing term.
And yes, it really is. Its the PERFECT time right now, As far as consoles go, their pretty much maxed, and very few PC developers will continue pushing PC further and further, meaning there will be little reason to upgrade at least until next gen which will most likely be around 4 years.
And, dont spend $1000, spend about $800!

Nah. PC might have a big gaming library, but it's just not that good to justify spending the dough on building a gaming rig that you will just have to spend more money on regularly to meet the power demand of the games, and even then, you're not guaranteed to be able to run the game at max settings.TheMoreYouOwn
My PC is about 3 years old and only replaced one part (Got it was a gift, the PSU.)
Starcraft 2, Battlefield 3, Metro 2033, The Witcher 2, STALKER...way more than enough to justify a PC purchase. Can't say the same about consoles especially the 360. Its far better to be somewhat up-to-date than game on 6 year old hardware.
And if you're playing AAA titles only, you're gaming wrong.

Because I didn't upgrade my gpu until 3 years later...

You're content with running games on the equivalent to low/medium settings but we have to spend $35000 every month to make sure we can max out every title. Seriously? I have some crappy Dell Inspiron 6000 somewhere that probably runs Black Ops and Mass Effect 2 better than PS3 and 360.

If you have this kind of obsession to run every game on the market at max setting than you're better off with the consoles.
But don't pc's gimp themselves? I mean, at least with consoles, you're guaranteed to be able to run the game the way it's meant to be played and seen. With pc's, you never know. But I digress...since console gamers get "gimped" version of games.

No, with consoles you're guaranteed to play the game at a crappy 30 fps, 720p. I don't care if I can't go for x32 antialiasing. At least it will run a lot better than the console version.

You buy mid-high end parts and even do SLI/Crossfire and it can last for a while. The start up cost of a computer can seem high, but it levels out as really once you build a computer, if you spend a bit more and get reliable and good parts, the only thing you should have to replace is a video card every two or three years, and depending on what comes out or what video card you origonal bought you may be able to go four or five years at which point you should probably rebuild a new computer. Yes a computer is still more than a console but it isn't like you have to dump $300+ of upgrades into it every year, a $1000 to $1500 machine should last you four, five, maybe even six years.
My current computer has 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13Ghz) Processor, and a nVidia Geforce 7900GS and was purchased in 2006; this is not a gaming computer by any means now, nor was it back in 2006 but it can still run games like Left 4 Dead 2, Half-Life 2, Hitman: Blood Money, STALKER, Crysis, Bulletstorm (Bulletstorm runs surprisingly smooth on low settings), and I even got Arama II to run on this thing (though it was barely playable) and really if I wanted to, I could have thrown in another 2GB of RAM and thrown in a $200 video card and spent a total of $250 on upgrades and I would probably be able to run even more games than what it can today.

Crappy 30fps 720p? Ok. Let's not get too dramatic. If you prefer gaming from your desk, that's fine. I'll take my couch and 46". (Waits for the "PC's can be set up like that too. Yeah...but the vast vast majority don't. PC gaming is desk gaming.)
According to the spreadsheet: 360 has: 8 AAAe, 17AAe, 18Ae PS3 has: 8 AAAe, 18AAe, 17Ae PC has: 15:AAAe, 85AAe, 89Ae Almost has as many AAA exclusives as the consoles combined, has more than double the amount of AAe and Ae titles. Yeah..PC haz no gaems.ScarfaceNY
you should know in SW strategy games, simulator games, games without blood, games with minimal or no advertising, games with a budget less than 5million, games with no guns and games with hype less than the hype of having found extraterrestrial life and we are about to contact them are not to be counted in System wars

LMAO...nice.PS3. I was thinking about pcgaming lately because of the Skyrim (mods) and BF3 announcements. I'm not sure if besides those 2 games there are -many- interesting pcgames coming out in the next 1-2 years or so. By that time the pc will have aged a bit. I don't have time for MMO's. I play nearly eveything when it comes to games and genres.you own a console? Which one and what games do you like
