I was kind of looking to buy a 360 or Wii (PS3's out of my budget), but I won't be able to pay for Live for a while or get either console hooked up to the net for anything for a little while until I switch ISP's or something. My DSL service kind of sucks, but I mostly use my PC for online gaming at the moment.

What say you? Is a 360 even worth getting if you can't have Live for a while?

I would say no, right now, for the Price. I can name at least 10 games that don't require Online to have fun, but it isn't worth $400. If money isn't an issue, go for it.

But rest assured that Over Half of the fun of the 360 is Online. The system was made for ONLINE Gaming. Don't listen to guys that say anything else, they usually have LIVE and just don't have to suffer without it.

Well, if it helps any.. I'd like to hear some good samples from each platform.. The games I'm most into are platform games and shooters. Rayman Raving Rabbids was kind of an insult because I ended up without a platformer I've been anticipating for 3 years, so... Yeah... moving onto another platform because I need something other than a shooter or a RPG to fall back on.

Well, if you are not a big fan of online gaming, the 360 is still a good purchase. However, it mainly deals with FPSes (ugh...so many!) and...uh...online FPSes. There are (and will be) a substantial amount of platformers on the Wii, and a few shooters to go alongside them (Ghost Squad pops up to mind). It all depends on you though. You can buy a Wii and many games (or just extra spending money) and be satisfied until development slows down for it (not trying to bash). Or you can buy a 360 (make sure you get the 60 gig one!) and a game or two (depending on your budget) and have a few games for a while with great graphics and the knowledge that you'll be playing a future-ready machine (in the scope of things). YES, the XBox was designed around an 'online experiance' (h3ll, that's why they gave it the name '360'! It's true!), but you can still have a decent amount of fun with it...as long as you are not one of the MILLIONS of American gamers addicted to online gaming. And as for the Wii...Nintendo has always put out great hardware and 1st party games, so you know 99% that you are in good hands with them. Hope I didn't complicate things for you!

Worth it without live? Not really.

Worth it without a gold membership? Totally.

If not for my brother buying me a prepaid card for gold membership, I wouldn't have bothered. And honestly, the silver membership already covers just about everything I would want to do on XBL.

if you only play single player mode games then its a love or hate situation, but since most of its best games have multiplayer, if you odn't have XBL, then no its not very much worth it.

Yea I don't even play online. My PS2 is for playing with friends, PC for playing online(barely do but anyway) and 360 is for mostly for single player, and with mates sometimes.

Yes. But once you can get it hooked up you should at least get a Silver account(free) for updates and demos.

Mass Effect, Enteral Sonata, Bioshock, Blue Dragon, Lost Oddysee, is a offline game.

So come september I'm not even gonna bother with buying another 50$ card.

Oh and I don't care about Halo 3 online.

Which my subscription is due to expire in july.

without the demos and the VOD and the invites and and stuff? definitely lose alot of its value, but it's still worth getting.

It doesn't matter if you dsl sucks because you can still play online. I have probably the worst high speed internet possible and I still play online just fine. It does have setbacks though. Marvel ultimate alliance lags like crazy online so I don't play it too much and some arcade games have laggy online for me. You should at least get silver since you do have some type of dsl
