I hear so many people talk about it, and I have friends that were enamoured with it. One of my friend let me try it on his phone, and honesly I got through four levels and got bored. Is AB really better then a decent console/pc game

I don't get it either, it's not a fun game. I played a bit of it and got so bored. An iphone game will never be as good as a full console game, they're in 2 completely different leagues.
Get off your high horse. Games like Angry Birds and Cut the Rope sell as well as they do for a reason. They're highly polished, fun to play, and get continued developer support for free with new levels and features. By "compelling gaming experience" I'm assuming you mean something like Uncharted or Bioshock. Reality check here, that's not what Angry Birds is marketed as. It's a 99 cent time killer meant to be played 5-30 minutes at a time. This isn't a blockbuster Hollywood movie, it's a funny Youtube video that has a lot of views.it may be fun for the unrefined 'gamer'
bored individuals unschooled in what constitutes a compelling gaming experience

It has basically the kind of fun as in when you don't have anything to do so you look for something "fun" to do(and almost anything to do becomes "fun" because you make it so). For people that can be called gamers, that have a somewhat refined taste for gaming will hardly find it fun, maybe for short bursts of like 10 minutes or something, before it becomes dull.
I have not played it that much, but I dont see what all the rage is about. Ok maybe it is fun, but its nothing i havent seen done thousands of times before online and even older retail games. It just had the luck of the draw.
