It's a collectors item now. Understandable. I still know a few people with the original copy and they wouldn't part with it for the world

I actually think SE should make some more PS1 copies, they could make a fair amount of money off it.

I still have my original Day 1 PAL release, I think i paid about 43 UK Pounds for the game on the local market videogame stall.

I have seen FF7 in Gamestations as of recent, but ive heard they are getting rid of the older pre owned stuff, so im unsure if they will be keeping ps1 games on shelves.

Its ussually on Ebay for about 15-20 pounds, maybe its just expensive stateside.

The Pal version isn't worth aanything (more than a regular PSone game).

Its the U.S. version and probably the japanese version that's really valuable

MInes pristine, as is FF8, FF9 and Metal Gear Solid.

I offloaded most of my ps1 games years back, one of the games i regret selling was Resident Evil 2, ive been itching to play it again for years, i wish they would release a DS port.

FF is fun, but doesn't have the timeless values the other games have. When I said £5 I meant I sold it in 2001, I tried to love it again but..it just wasn't very good and has aged extremely poorly. However I go back to Goldeneye or Zelda:OOT and I have a blast! Simply, I sell a game the moment they don't became interesting.

I almost feel like buying a few Final Fantasy VIIs to sell now. The one under my bed isn't in such a good condition. But taking advantage of people makes me feel like a bad person.

Hmm what is the next game or are there any more games that people will buy for more than they are worth?

No I must kill these thoughts. They seem so similar to scalping.

I disagree, unlike OoT which has aged just like any Zelda (besides MM, and even somewhat WW), FF games tend to keep their value due to their deep central storyline and character development. It's one of those games you can find enjoyable your first time playing it even in the year 2008.

And to the TC, you aren't missing that much, although it's good to experience the game it wasn't nearly the best in the series.

With something like 10 million copies floating around, shouldnt be hard to find at all, and usually rare games=big dollars, not the opposite.

I guess people are crazy enough to pay $100 dollars for a game that isnt rare at all.

Agreed. I never understood the hype of this game. Than again, I've played FFIV nad VI... I often wonder if the majority of people that praise VII are just newer gamers who never played the older ones.

I think two words are missing from your post but I understand all the same and I could very well see it happening that way and it certainly wouldn't be the first time something like this happens.

Finally gaming is an expensive hobby and cheapassgamer is one of my favorite sites. I will jump through the hoops if it saves me money.

It was one of the first mainstream JRPG's to make the best use of in-game cinematics as a story-telling medium... that and it was the first JRPG played by a lot of kids.

I disagree 100% with your Zelda Statement. I personally played through LTTP for the 10th time last week. And I'm considering playing through it again as we speak, in act, main reason I'm not is I'm playing through Seasons and Ages again right now. With few exceptions, Zelda games hold up very very well to the test of time.
Having said that, I agree that pre-7 FF games hold up well. I'm playing through VI for the firsttime now on my SNES (so III) and I love it, and played through IV (which i now own on SNES) and loved it as well. As for 9 I played it at the time and was enjoyable, and 7 a few years later and jut couldn't get into it at all. 10 is the same, not all that great - it's ok, but hardly anything special, and 12..was an enjoyable experience as well, but, once again, ther are much better RPGs out there.

There are many who have played the earlier Final Fantasys. I think it has more to do with when you played them. The first of many thing will always have a special place in your heart and this makes it hard to be completely impartial.

Let me get this out of the right now. I liked and still do like Final Fantasy VII however there are those who played Final Fantasy VII first and THEN went back and played the ones that came before it. While it's true that they can say that they played all of them, they never got to experience the earlier ones in the time they were meant for. They allowed themselves to be wowed by Final Fantasy VII's visuals in 97 but said that Final Fantasy VI's visuals were crap in 2001 when they could have be wowed in 94. This is not to say that visuals are everything but countering "visuals aren't everything" with "they make a game that much more atmospheric" seems to be a trend these days.

You can easily find it for under $50 used. Its not even close to one of the more valuabe or obscure JRPGS out there.

Ah, well I can replay FFs and still enjoy them. I can't replay them right away of course, like I can with a great shooter (The Darkness comes to mind), but even a month later I can and enjoy it. I usually notice things I've missed the first time through.

The price is understandable at this point but is still amazes me that Sony hasn't contacted Square to put Final Fantasy VII, VIII & IX on the Playstation Network yet.

You can easily find it for under $50 used. Its not even close to one of the more valuabe or obscure JRPGS out there.Blackbond

Super Mario RPG being a prime example. Once again I'll point out:
$400+ on E-Bay for a new copy.

True, but, I could never get into it myself, I oplayed it a few years after the factmind you but..still, doens't have that timeless quality I find.darkslider99

I played it back around the time it came out and didn't understand what made it so special. It's story was intriguing but the time needed to get through that story and the tedious nature of levelling was a huge turn-off. I guess it all depends on where you came into the JRPG genre (I started with Super Mario RPG and Final Fantasy VI) and how much you are blinded by your nostalgia.
