Is battlefield 3 really going to use the power of the PC like Dice says?

Judging from this video that doesn't seem to be the case. Dice has said the PC is lead platform in this game but after seeing this comparison the PS3 version looks too close for that to be true. Or am I mistaken here?

1. Very small and compressed YouTube video.

2. There are a lot of differences, mainly textures, lighting, particle effects, and character models.

3. Why wouldn't it? You should look at the newer footage and leaked footage.

Dude, go look at the leaked footage on Youtube of BF3 multiplayer. Most are in 720p or 1080p.

I don't have doubts it looks better than the console version, what I am wondering is if it it's taking advantage of the power of the PC, because the differences aren't anything huge so I am skeptical about that.

Well I read somewhere, all the multiplayer leaked videos are all Med-Low settings being Alpha stage and not even beta it makes sense. BFBC2 open beta only let you run it on Med

The lead platform for BF3 is PC so it will use all the power you can muster.

I can't say until i buy a copy for my PC and PS3 to compare.

Even in this video the console version has things missing. The building in the background (parking lot??) is different, there are more trees lining the road on the pc version, more smoke and particles in the air. Wait till it releases, on a full screen 1080p it will blow your mind.

When maxed out it will...something we haven't seen yet.

I've seen the vids at 720p and they still don't have that great of a difference but you do hav ea point with teseellation not being enabled as yet.

It's already pushing it and it's still not finished. PC version doesnt even support DX9, which the consoles run on. Nobody using WinXP will be able to install it, and you need a DX10/11 GPU to run it.

From what Ive seen of the leaked gameplay, it shouldnt be too much more intensive than BC2. This is a good thing, not a bad thing. Iantheone

Actually the textures are lower than the release will be and the destruction is toned down quite a bit.

When in doubt use a heavily compressed video of two heavily compressed videos side by side in small squares as your basis :? But even in that you can still see the huge difference in lighting, textures, shadowing, etc. ferret-gamer

This. I know when I saw the PS3 version running I immediately noticed the difference, especially in framerate.

It'll look fine, chill. The videos released on Youtube already show that it's a very good looking game even though it's on the evil consoleZ0Rz as well. Just enjoy the game...

If they aren't supporting DX9 at all, it's doubtful there is a DX9 version. I'm sure it's just a DX10 version.

You would have to listen to the people in the vids. For example, someone would point how how good the lighting looks and say how its only in dx9 and so on. It could be that they meant to say dx10. Who knows.

Considering the game is in ALPHA and is running on LOW settings, I think we can safely say that BF3 will definitely require a good investment (to max/1080p Full AA etc)

You will NEVER see the difference in comparisson videos on YouTube, you have to experience it for yourself. I never really saw the difference in PC to console, but after I bought my PC, everything is quickly visible, higher FPS, better textures...

And as for battlefield 3 really using the power of PC's, the fact that it has 64 player multiplayer while console can only render up to 24, it a big indication. I'd say 60 - 70% of AAA games, always use "the power of the PC", but they're more subtle things like higher Frames Per Second or that they never lag in areas that console's would.
