I'm torn GS, my PS3 has got the YLOD but I really want to play Beyond: Two Souls. Is it worth spending money on either getting a new PS3 or getting my broken one replaced? I wouldn't have to ask if the PS4 had BC and given that Sony's streaming service won't be around till some time in 2014...

F*ck no.

Unless there is atleast 3-4 more games you are playing to get on PS3.

Beyond is barely worth $30.

And dont place much hope on the PS4 Gaikai BC capabilities.

IMO not really, unless you have a sick Ellen Page fetish.

I haven't looked that deeply into the Gaikai BC compatibilities. If it looks like a lock I would just wait for a game that you could beat in 10 hours or so.

Unless you got a lot of spare money laying around.

Buy the game and then wait for the PS4. Play it on there with a small fee.

@razu2444:

That's only for some games. We don't know yet if Beyond Two Souls will be among them.

Beyond is good but it is the kind of game that you wouldn't play more than once since it doesn't has branches or choices that carry... I would never buy a console just play one game though.

A PS3 is worth replacing either way. Best console this gen hands down.

I wouldn't think so. from what I've seen (like 80% of the game by now) it isn't all that great. It has some great mocap and touching scenes but the gameplay is bogus and it's full of racial stereiotypes and cliches. Not to mention the story overall is just dumb.

Plus I'd never advise getting a system for 1 game. At least play TLOU then if you do replace it

Spending over $300 for 2 hours of gameplay seems hardly worth it. At least in my opinion.

No it isn't worth it. Just wait til they release it on the cloud service for the PS4 and pick it up then.

Depends on how much you want to play the game honestly. I replaced mine earlier this year for TLoU and other PS3 exclusives I'd missed out on while my was broken so to me it's totally worth it.

If you have a sizable PS3 backlog, go for it, otherwise it's not really worth it.

If that's all you plan to use it for, then no it isn't. If there are other games you'd want to play, then go for it.

If you can rent or borrow a PS3 and rent the game, do that.

For Beyond alone, I really wouldn't advise it.

But if there's more exclusives you're interested in, like TLoU, GoW Ascension or upcoming GT6, I suppose it may be worth it, as long as you're a fan of those devs and their previous games.

Just watch videos of it on youtube, there is no difference than playing it.

Infact the youtube version probably requires pressing more buttons than the actual game.

I wouldn't know, never played it. But GoW 3 was some good fun, and by looking at Ascension, it seems very similar, how could they **** things up?

Still, if I ever get me another PS3, I'll give it a try.

Its a prequel that doesn't move anything along narrative wise, but the combat is the best in the franchise, so it's still a solid game.

Sounds good enough for me, then. GoW narrative went right down the toilet after the first game, when Kratos was reduced to a caricature with huge anger issues. Hardly had any reason to follow it, except for a few laughs.

To me it just felt unnecessary. Characters are bland, story is bland, environments are boring but yeah I guess it does have the best combat but that wasn't hard as most of GOW is just button mashing anyway.

The whole game felt like a cash grab and it made what was already borderline "too much Kratos" into "definitely too much Kratos"

Oh come on... you guys really play GoW for those things?

Hell, I had enough of Kratos after the first game credits rolled out... everything turned into a mess later on, unless "RAAAAWAAAHRRRRAAA AMAAAA KILLLLLLLL EVEEEEERRYOOOONEE!" is considered good writing. The combat and overall mechanics saw plenty of improvements, though, the games becoming more polished and ambitious.

No, IMO

Borrow a PS3 from a friend sometime. The narrative is the game and you'll know within about an hour whether you're gonna see it through to its end.

For better or worse, there is nothing else quite like it. It has had some really good scenes but I'm still ho-hum about the product as a whole. It definitely explores the theme of the "world of the living" and the "world of the dead" in very mature ways, but it conveniently excuses its protagonists from dire circumstances a few too often and unabashedly.

if its one of those must own games you're eagerly waiting for then yes.

http://www.gamestop.com/ps3/consoles/playstation-3-system-320gb-slim-gamestop-premium-refurbished/101891?loc=bestsellers

or

These are just two sources to find some cheap PS3s.

Beyond is unlike anything I've experienced before at least in scope. Sure other games have dabbled in giving you freedom of choice but this game I think really nailed its vision. Knowing that there is no game over screen made the game even better, Beyond doesn't even let you start a new game without overwriting the old save (at least not until you've beaten the game I think) you gotta be prepared to live with your choices. The end results of most plot points remain the same regardless of your actions but the intensity of scenes or way of arrival is in your hands.
