Is Crysis to a Decent success or a major flop?

http://www.vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=crysis%202

The game has sold 1.49 million units world wide on the platforms it was released on.

Considering the hype, and the time of release and of course the Cryengine 3, what do yo consider Crysis 2 as?

(I do however like the SP.)

Crysis 2 pleasently surprised me, I didn't see too much in the previews and whatnot but the final product was pretty damn good. The single player was a blast.

The single-player campaign was fun and everything, but the story...ugh, well the story was just awful. I didn't have any real issues until it got towards the end, with a particular indecisive antagonist...

EA announced that it sold over 2 million. VGChartz sucks.

Regardless, it wasn't a massive success.

the single player was pretty slow, but picked up a lot! I didn't get to finish it though, but i got really far! The game had too many bugs such as me running without a gun, or no objective. It was funny seeing my commrades running with their arms by their side without any weapons! But I blame my PS3 because it is on the verge of death. It shuts off while playing uncharted 2 single player and blinks red! This also causes graphical hitches in games! So I tried it on my new slim that I am saving for college, and it ran better without any graphical hiccups. So this makes me wonder if when people who review games keep in mind that the bugs in a game can be from faulty hardware...

VGChartz still sucks. because they should have a normalization factor to account for that... Statistical analysis is not actually that difficult to do. The issue is that they don't do it at all. They basically guess and then fix everything once NPD figures come out. And then they add some random figure to account for international numbers. Stop using VGChartz. But that is not really the point of this thread...

Depends on who you ask. In System Wars, for example, a decent success would be considered as a major flop by some people in here :D

If you ask someone who has played the original Crysis game, then that person might say that Crysis 2 was a dumbed down game. It doesn't manage to carry everything that made the first game so great, nor does it manage to improve upon everything.

A majority of people can't play it on PC because it resets their progress in both single and multiplayer, and countless scripting errors, clipping problems, and other general programming bugs disrupt the gameplay so much that it makes it unplayable. I am one of those people. I remember how much of a buggy mess Crysis was, but this sequel is, literally, unplayable. I will never buy a crytek game again.

I can care less about sells unless its going into my pocket. Otherwise Crysis 2 is a great game imo. Its not a genre defining fps like the first Crysis but it is a great game in its own right imo.

New generation console gamers have low standard. They will be awed by anything thrown at them.

what? it's horrible compared to the first. and the main reason why I bought the game, sb3, is absent. sure, they're working on a cryengine sdk, but they also said that crysis 2 would retain the same freedom as crysis

Exactly. I could make a list on why Crysis is better.

Crysis 2 did improve in some small ways though; the gunplay is more satisfying and the soundtrack is absolutely fantastic.

I felt like Crysis 2's OST droned on a bit. It really tried to bring in overly melodramatic feel. But Hans Zimmer can't do anything other than overly melodramatic anyway. :P

It's funner than the boring ol' Crysis. It's a shame to see many fellow PC gamers with the mentality of "better graphics = funner."

In terms of the game and not the sales, on its own, it was really good... in fact, one of the best shooters (SP) this gen. But then when you look at it as the sequel to Crysis... it is a flop. So many things were better with Crysis and Warhead.

Better graphics, mods from the start, editor from the start, DX10, larger MP, much larger scale (SP and MP), better story, better physics (C1/WH actually had physics), better used of the nano suit (Crysis 2's nano suit was ways too streamlined), and a few more minor things like dynamic weather, vehicles, better AI, the zero gravity part, the aliens were much more different than the humans (Crysis 2 aliens were basically just heavily armored humans), etc...

Crytek said that Crysis 2 had a much bigger budget than the first one. Bigger budget, three platforms, lower profit margins for Crysis 2 and 2 mil units VS smaller budget, one platform, higher profit margins and 3,5 mil copies for Crysis 1. Seems like a huge flop to me.

It's a very good game on it's own right, but at the same time

-it looks worse than almost 4 years old now part 1

-it scored lower

-it's sales aren't propably bigger enough to make up for huge increase in development and marketing costs.

So a moderate flop I would say.

sorry to go off topic adrian, curse of monkey island special edition is this weeks XBOX Live deal of the week. I have never played it and have a few points spare, would you recomend i get it. I DL'd the free trial but haven't played it yet, i dont know how long it lasts so cant be sure if the game would get better after say 15mins?

It's Secret of MI, not Curse :) Curse is the 3rd game in the series and has yet to be ported.

Anyway, it's hard to say how long it will last because the whole difficulty is based on solving puzzles. Still, it's a long adventure game and one of best ones ever made. So, yeah...I higly recommend it.

A good game but nothing special. Soon to be forgotten if it's not already. What made the first one fun apart from the suit was the sandbox nature of the whole island with the vehicles to move around, day/night cycle to help with the immersion ect. Remove all that and you'll have a generic shooter or Crysis 2.

Actually, if everybody didn't say the game was more complicated and required more strategy it may have been competiton for CoD. Most of the game can be passed by cloaking while crawling.

Biggest flop this year, bar none.

Its a shame it turned out to be nothing more than yet another FPS with a 'hollywood' like linear scripting, and CoD clone MP.

NeonNinja

Decent success in it's transition to consoles. Not quite a resounding success because it's performance is not 100%, but its still top 5/top 10 console game (only in terms of graphics engine) which is pretty great considering it's their FIRST multiplat. The PC version is also a decent success, but again it didn't really push forward the genre or do much better than Crysis 1, it failed to blow anyone away.

I would say sales wise, only selling 1.5Million is at least a flop, maybe even a "major" flop. They seriously had to expect something more like 5 million+ (if not 10 million) for a game with a budget like this being sold on all platforms.

I wouldn't call it a major flop or a decent success. It didn't reach Cryteks hopes after selling out, that's for sure. If you want a major flop take a look at Brink.

Very very poor sales, less then original game and that was only on one platform.

Crytec don't deserve to do well with this game having disregarded their own fanbase.

I believe it was a good game. I prefered Crysis and Warhead, but Crysis 2 was a good fps. It didn't live up to the hype, but there is a lot of hate going round that is not justified.

The game has sold 1.49 million units world wide on the platforms it was released on.

(I do however like the SP.)

EA announced that it sold over 2 million. VGChartz sucks.

Regardless, it wasn't a massive success.

Vgchartz tracks games sold by the retailer to the consumer. Game publishers typically report shipped games to the retailer-- without reading the report I'm not sure which # EA is reporting here. Vgchartz actually does a pretty decent job-- it has its flaws, but I've trackedmany, manygames that were spot on. Also, the NPD is not a perfect source either and features sampling error. Now that NPD stopped reporting numbers, vgchartz is one of the only resources we have.

Homefront wasn't a flop-- it has been selling very well. It may be a metacritic flop, but definitely not a sales flop.

Crysis 2 is awful after playing the first one. C2 inspired me to grab warhead from steam, having not tried it yet.
