My friends, as we exist, we are constantly changing by rewiring our neurons with each passing seconds. You'll literally become a different person once you have finished reading this piece.
The same could be applied for my relationship with Evolve after having played both Alpha and Beta to very limited enjoyment, however admittedly it was more fun second time around. Now the shit's legit.
The game is definitely a grower. You cannot expect to get a full grasp of its rules and mechanics within your first hour, thus you might initally become very frustrated. However, boy does it pay off later on.
The best thing about it is that EVERYTHING is so strange, intangible and alien: from game's environment to creatures and certain abilities / gadgets. Defamiliarized, in short.
The game requires a lot of patience and skill. It is extremely satisfying to become a badass monster like Kraken and truly feel like a solitary creature, especially when you can use a variety of techniques to fool those who track you.
On the other hand, the co-op aspect is as satisfying as ever. However, with the game being a lot more sophisticated than Left 4 Dead in this department, it also requires a better squad play, and sometimes you come across pathetic teams. This is a double-edged sword. But when it fires on all cylinders, it truly delivers.
I think Turtle Rock had the right business intuition to paywall additional monsters, because this element is what I'm interested in the most, as much as it sucks. However, I got the game for free, so I might get some when they'll be discounted.
Anyway, what's your thoughts?
