Is FF7 Remake gonna suck?

I think we need to look at this.

It's been in development hell for too long.
It was changed from a single game to episodic mid-development.
It was turned into a ARPG mid-development as well.

How can one have any faith in this game with these three red flags? Because of a video of one battle?

This game is going to flop. Hard.

FF7 remake wasn't on my radar and still own the original anyways. Will it suck on release day? Don't know, don't care.

Not a fan of it being an episodic release. Can't tell if it's going to suck since I haven't played it.

I don’t think it will myself. Everything that I’ve seen and heard about the game looks awesome.

I was hyped until I heard the battle system was real-time. That one change negates my entire interest for the remake.

The video showed that they got the core combat mechanics right and struck the right balance. The action combat mechanics look very polished, while they've retained a form of ATB as a tactical option, managing to satisfy fans of both ARPG and ATB combat.

There's no need to worry much about the story, because we already know the story is good from the original. The main issue was always the combat, whether they'd go action or ATB. And by managing to do both, sort of, they've restored faith and generated hype.

Every modern FF game gets hyped, then upon release immediately dumped on. The only exception Realm Reborn, which itself was a redo of a messed up game.

More than likely yes... However, it sounds as though its production value is going to be quite high, so people will praise it to high hell no matter what. I will reserve my judgment until I get a chance to play it, but everything I have heard so far has me more than a little worried.

I think theyll ditch the episodic nature and i dont think its development hell. They announced it too early and then realized how much time it would take to do the game world justice, under a realtime setting. My guess is that it arrives around the first holiday season of the ps5, and if ps5 launches during the holidays it will launch with it or 4 to 6 months afterwards.

@uninspiredcup: That is why I don't hype up future Final Fantasy games anymore. FF13, 14 and 15 have been a let down at launch

i never liked the original all that much, playing it in past years is more a nostalgia thing, anyhow, I can't see myself liking this less, I don't think it'll suck, but given how revered the original is I can either see people's love for FF7 being reinvigorated or possibly polar opposite, people love original so much but might just hate on this simply because it's not the original, or maybe something else will go on, maybe those people who act like the integrity of gaming is on the line unless all gamers draw a line in the sand over Tifa's boobs... seriously, not that I personally entertain such BS but there's plenty who will, and gaming community is an echo-chamber, so whoever screams first and loudest about this game may possibly dictate the gaming community's collectivve opinion about it

Who knows. I'm not keen on them releasing it in episodic form. That's why I'll wait until everything is available. I loved the original game at least & if I don't end up playing the remake, it is what it is.

How would you know as you don't have a Switch.

Of course , it's made by SE and like Bethesda their in house developed IPs have all been shit for a long time.

The fact that they dumbed down the combat system instead of making it more complex means it's gonna be bad.

It will almost certainly be inferior to the original. They should have just updated the graphics and kept the gameplay intact.

I doubt it. Trailers look good. And it may be episodic but if each episode is taking 40-50 hours then it's worth it. Haters gone hate lol

This! Not that it being cut into a multi-part mess isn't a major turn-off, or the other unneeded changes. As well as a few other 'concerns' too.

Yep I stopped caring after they told it will be episodic.

The original FFVII was in development for 2-3 years, and had a production budget of $45 million (about $75 million adjusted for inflation). Up until then, FFVII was the most expensive video game ever, by far. Its budget dwarfed the budgets of all other video games at the time.

The high budget clearly showed in the quality and quantity of the pre-rendered CGI (backdrops and FMV), which was a big leap foward at the time. The original CGI assets were actually hi-res, but were downscaled for the game. Not sure if Square still have the original CGI assets, but they could've easily remastered the original FFVII if they just used the original hi-res CGI assets.

I have a lot of faith that it will more than live up to the hype. Especially after playing Final Fantasy XV. It was phenomenal in terms of gameplay! All FFXV was missing was a good story and characters. Now we got all of that with FFVII Remake!

Best of all, it will be expanded upon tremendously. This giving a whole lotta depth and detail that Final Fantasy VII never had. On this scale, FFVII Remake could stand to be THE BEST Final Fantasy ever. It'll finally live up to the pedestal fans have put it on.

I have a love/hate relationship with FFXV. It's not really fun just holding circle to fight. And why did every NPC sound like they're from the southern United States in the country somewhere? It was really weird. The graphics and music were good. I even like the fishing game. And that Leviathan fight may be my favorite fight from any Final Fantasy. Overall I was very disappointed with the barebones story and boy band-esque party that give you no choices or versatility because you play with the same 4 people the whole game.

According to those who actually played it is seems to be pretty good. It's far away from what I hoped it to be, but I doubt it'll be "bad". Disappointing for sure, but not objectivly bad.

I just found out that 8 is being remastered and getting released this year so to hell with 7.

I kind of hope it does suck because i wanted a remake of FF7 but i wanted it when it was turn-based and an all-in-one game. This episodic is bullshit.

No other episode is going to match the first, I am thinking they will be deplorable/extremely low on content after the first, IF they even get released.

This one will be a hard pass for me until all of the episodes are sold together. Hate that they are making it episodic.
