I think so. I personally loved the FF series until I played FF10. I liked the old NES and SNES FFs but I felt taht Square got it perfect with FF7. This game is easily in my top 5 games of all time. FF8 was awesome and barely a notch below being a masterpiece. FF9 was pretty cool but I felt as though the FF series was slowing down. And finally when I played FF10 for my PS2 I knew something was just missing. I played the game from start to finish hoping that something would inspire me in it and make it another memorable FF game. It never happened.

I was never able to play FF11 because my PC sucked to much and i tried playiong FF12, which I was only able to tolerate for about 2 hours.

Does anyone else feel the final fantasy series has lost its flame? What are your feelings in the series?

They had a set back with XII, but that's it. FF is far, far from dead my friend.

And X is my second favorite Final Fantasy game. Also, I have been playing XI for far too long.

Everybody's got their opinion about the FF games, and yours is definitely valid, since alot of people didn't have the patience for turn-based stuff.

I couldn't, however, disagree with you more. FF X was the last great Final Fantasy game, and the reason why it was so great was BECAUSE of those turn-based battles. I loved how Square completely took out the active-time system and showed the player the order of the turns; IMO that made it the most strategic out of the all the FF games (except for FF Tactics, obviously).

FF XII infuriated me to no end. The colour pallete and locations were bland beyond belief, the battle system allowed for WAY too many cheap hits, and your AI controlled party members were so stupid you had to constanty be healing them or else they'd get themselves killed.

The FF games, to me, have random encounters, turn-based battles, and interesting and diverse worlds. Since it looks like Square's moving away from that, then I couldn't really care less about XIII or any other FF after that UNTIL they pull something like they did with FF IX and take the series back to its roots.

I loved Final Fantasy XII and right now I am currently playing through Final Fantasy X and loving every minute of it. I'm also playing through Final Fantasy VI which is amazing. All of the games have a different experience and I love it, this way it doesn't get stale.

Now why would you want that to happen? For one, people would never be able to experience the amazing storytelling of a Final Fantasy game. You also would never be able to make that joke again.

Besides, they could rename each and every one of their games. This way, though, you know you are getting a quality product worthy of the FF name.

FF nuts still living in the 80s would like to drag the series to its death. Fortunately Square Enix has the balls to ignore them and evolve the series. If they had stayed with the turn-based system, they would have lost their entire userbase by FF14 or 15. As it is they will just keep getting better. And for those who think FFXII is 'bland': An RPG can still have great environment design without including an Ice World, Fire World and Forest World.

No not yet maybe not even close. Sure the latest game haven't been up to par with past titles like FF6,Tactics,4,7 and FF9 but at least XII didn't come to be crap like FFX(go ahead flame me if you must IMO X was an awful FF title). Also that FFXII on the DS proves Square can still make a decent FF spin off since FF Tactics(PSX)

Man i totaly agree with you XII was so boring the character sucked and the game never felt like a Fantasy game.

But i will give them one last chance i have buoght all FF games that have come out but if they dont deliver with FF 13im finish with the franchise.

BTW FF7 the biggest masterpiece in game history.

The people crying about FFXII battle system and AI musn't have been smart enough to program a decent gambit system or too lazy. The characters, story, enviroments were top notch. As far as I am concerned FF has got better and better with every new game! FF will never die!!

Actually FFX is great. Easily in the TOP 5 FF games. The game that didn't had the FF feeling was FF12... I kind of didn't like it as much as other FF games. Anyways I don't think FF is dead... Square still has it's magical touch when it comes to their main games... sadly we gotta wait years and year for the game to come, and in the waiting process we get a tons of lame remakes and spinoffs.

FF isn't dead, but it certainly doesn't have that magic sheen it did when FFVII and FFX were released.

The only thing keeping it so popular are the legions of rabid, RABID fanboys, who wouldn't know what a good story was if it sat on their face at night.

Oh come on, I've played FF6, 7, 8 (my favourite) and 10 and it was hardly thought provoking stuff.

That doesn't mean the games are bad though, I really enjoyed the FF games I've played, but I think alot of people blow it all out of proportion.

They are past thier prime, especially now being on the worst system, thier chances of huge success with FF13 have lowered.

Thanks to the Xbox360 borrowing PC games, WRPGs are the future of mainstream, and well deserved.

final fantasy 10 is still amazing, and final fantasy 12 is close to amazing, i really like the way the new battle system worked. they really implemented it well, unlike in blue dragon.

anyway, i agree though that around 7 and 8 those were the best.

I want a return to the old style FF character design. Ever since they went psuedo realistic, the characters have lacked any kind of appeal to me. I want my Black and White mages and Dragoons back. Spare me the freakin' emo nonsense. It's not fantasy, it's Britney Spears .

Agreed, I want my classes back, with thier distinct features, and the strategy that comes along with them. Abit like FFX-2 just not completely screwed up like that was ...

FF5 .... for example.

Final Fantasy, or atleast the Final Fantasies that had originally made the franchise so popular, are in fact dead. Final Fantasy 6, 7, an 8 were the three most popular itterations, and they were the ones that really propelled Final Fantasy to new heights. Heres the thing, those three titles were steam punk titles, which is a type of fantasy. Since then, Final Fantasy has deviated from the steam punk that made those three so great and endearing. Now they focus on crystals, magic, and other hogwash. Final Fantasy, while not dead, is definitely a husk of its former self.
