I don't think so. As far as I know it just did what others did a bit better.

Maybe chainsaw was original? I don't know.

Actually, WinBack predates both Kill.switch and Gears of War in the cover mechanic.

But Gears did it in a way that was much more fluid than either, and backed it up by being a good game, something that WinBack and Kill.switch cannot really claim to be.

EDIT: Fixed capitalization on WinBack. And Kill.switch

Gun + Chainsaw combo, Crossbow that has exploding arrows, Hammer of Dawn, best use of cover I've seen, Grenade tagging enemies, curb stomping, teammate revives were quick and easy etc etc..

It was very original.

killswitch was actually one of Cliffy and Mark's favorite games, but it didn't have multiplayer.

I don't know if it was original, per se, but it was a breath of fresh air against all the FPS's that were flooding the market at the time.

Overall, it was just what the 360 needed and gamers needed.

Gears Was very original. People who claim it isn't are those who cling to those pc games that people played 20 years ago.

Gears basically added in the whole "Press A to switch between cover points" mechanic. Kill.Switch was a fun game, they should make a next gen sequel that's longer than 3 hours (yeah it was a super short games) more weapons, some blood but the same arcadey animations, and multiplayer that actually takes advantage of the cover mechanism, and it'd be awesome. Plus the ending pretty much leaves it open for a sequel.

Chainsaw and curb stomp, maybe, but the rest has been done before and would not qualify as "very original".

But, nonetheless, the campaign was very fun.

Yeah, I remember WinBack, it debuted on N64,then was ported to PSOne. There was a fuss that the PSOne port wasn't going to look as good. I remember thinking when I bought it on N64 that the Devs (KOEI?) took the MGS1 wall mechanic and made a whole game out of it. It was decent for it's time though.

You are correct, and I agree. It was not great, but not bad either. I guess it was just ok to me. It was fun in multiplayer though.

Its not about who did it first, but rather, who did it best. Gears hands down accomplished this way better than those others.

The grenade tagging is any sticky grenade and have been around since the N64 days. The hammer of dawn has been done in other games too, but not in the same concept, and rather in a charge and fire way.

What games is pure original these days anyhow? I mean, i can pretty much relate some element of any recent good games to something in the past. I'm pretty sure the dev does some research of what's out there? What's selling? Who's playing it? then put those elements in the game, hype it, then hopefully make a killing.

I think sticky grenades that you throw is a little different than meleeing a grenade into the opponent's body :) I haven't seen another gun shoot a laser that comes out of the sky ..but we are arguing over nitpicks ;)

Only because you said those things were very original.

And they still are, no one has provided a real comparison to those. Charging a gun isn't the same as the hammer, and sticky grenades you throw are not tagging.

The mechanics were just slightly altered, nothing there that's terribly original.

Stop acting so stuborn.
