I don't think it's the best. The first one is good, the second is weak. Hopefully the third is fun.
It's far from the best. Halo is the best for me personally. I always enjoy a good Halo game and there hasn't been a bad one yet. ODST haters, come at me.
GeoW2 angered me after all the glitching on MP, some of the lame story parts about Dom, but I did try to love that game, until those Isos hackers came in and finally ruined the MP for good.
I think some may argue in favor of the GeoW franchise though, others for Halo. :P In Fact, I think Halo will still win if there was a poll, the 360 got Halo 3, ODST, and Reach. :P It was Bungie's farewell to the game.
I would say the first is, maybe. I'm hardly the one to ask though, since I only had a 360 for a few months. but dam was gears of war awesome.

I think som may argue in favor of it though, others for Halo. :P

I think the only reason Gears is getting mentioned so much right now as the best exclusive is because people are basing their entire views on MS on just Gears 3 rather than looking at the whole portfolio. For whatever reason, right now is all that exists. Then and later don't exist in this place.
There are a few Xbox exclusives I like more than Gears for instance. It's not a bad series, just, Gears 2 put a really sour taste in my mouth with the weak campaign and weaker multiplayer.
No....Forza is though ;) No other exclusive console racer can touch it. That Abomination called Gran Turismo tried a couple of times but failed miserably.Forza4Champion
OMFG! GO MAVERICKS!!!!!! Down with the Heat baby! Down with the Heat! Lebron's got nothing on Dirk, dawg! Lebron's got NOTHING ON DIRK!!!! w00t!!!
Oh yeah, apparently Forza has been AAA since day one and GT's been flopping for awhile. Good on Sony!

Does Gears 3 count as holiday? It releases in September. MS have found a nice niche for themselves though. CoD dominates November and MS's shooters take September. It's been working to their favor. Particularly since the MS shooters range from good to excellent on a consistent basis this gen. (Yes, Perfect Dark Zero was good, not excellent, or even great, but good.)

Sure.
I enjoyed Gears of War 1 a ton. That one is really high up there. Played a bit of the multiplayer, beat the campaign solo on each difficulty and coop on each difficulty. Great game, love that one.
But I enjoyed Halo 3, Halo: Reach andTales of Vesperia more than Gears 1.
Gears of War2I disliked quite a bit. A disappointing sequel to a great shooter. I beat it once, played multiplayer, got pissed off and played Horde with a few friends before setting it aside. I tried playing it again recently, but I hate the design of it. It's fundamentally un-Gears like in concept, forcing you to move forward rather than being entrenched.
I enjoyed Halo 3, Halo: Reach, Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, Perfect Dark Zero, Project Gotham Racing 3, Project Gotham Racing 4, Dead or Alive 4, Mushihimesama Futari Ver 1.5 (exclusive, region-free import) andFable II more than Gears of War 2.
But when I take it together as a series as a whole rather than by individual games the taste Gears 2 left in my mouth was so bad that I would argue as a whole I enjoy Halo, Fable, Project Gotham Racing, Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey and Dead or Alive 4 more than the Gears series simply because of excellent previous experiences with these series as well as excellent current entries.
I do enjoy Gears of War more than Kameo, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Crackdown, Forza (not my type of game, truthfully), Perfect Dark and some more.
I have yet to play Alan Wake and Deathsmiles though as two exclusive franchises. Depending on the quality of Gears 3 as a whole it could raise where Gears of War as a whole stands with me or it could keep it where it is right now. But I hated Gears 2 so much that I took a 6 month break from videogames and didn't get back into it again until I bought Mass Effect on a whim and was blown away. I'd list that as an exclusive as that's how it started, but it's totally a multiplat now so it doesn't count. :P

I think so, at least according to the reasoning we were given as to WHY it was delayed from April 2011 to later this year. I think Xbox Management love to have a huge holiday game every year, and the rest of the year is multiplatform festival, from what I've noticed.
I know when it releases, not only have I had it reserved for years, I remember when it was due last year, then April...these delays.
I didn't like PD0 though, I bought two copies for my 360 launch BBQ at 360 launch, and we ended up playing Halo 2 LAN until GeoW 1 came out. :P
Check this out homie :
"Gears of War 3 promises to be the biggest entertainment launch of 2011. The teams at Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games have done great work thus far readying the title for release in the Spring of 2011. However, we've elected to move the launch of Gears of War 3 until Fall 2011to make it the marquee title for the holiday season."
Then later Epic said this (Gametrailers, Eurogamer, and Gamespot I remember updating): "I know fans are going to be disappointed with the new release date, but rest assured that this is a business decisionbetween partners, and not a quality issue."
Here's some news on the whole waiting for the holiday to release GeoW3 at Kotaku : GeoW3 Delayed 5 months after telling Jimmy Fallon on Live TV Gears 3 was coming April 8th, 2011.
I thought this delay was well known, but there was a bunch of news on this. So, I didn't choose the Holiday idea, that was just the news I read at a bunch of sites my main man Neon. :P
As far as big Holiday Titles, I remember this path of games I bought at Holiday for Xbox.
2004 : Halo 2 (2 copies, for LAN)
2005 : PD0 (2 copies, underperformed for my parties, so it was back to Halo 2, lol.)
2006 : GeoW (2 copies, although it only allowed two per screen it was a blast.)
2007 : Halo 3 (2 copies, one with a helmet, lolz)
2008 : GeoW 2 (Glitchy MP, but the hackers ruined the the fun that was left for me :()
2009 : Halo 3 : ODST (Was Halo 3 MP, so I didn't need two copies)
2010 : Halo Reach (2 copies, one with a statue set)
2011 : GeoW 3 Coming soon! :P

I know why they delayed it. It's just that it releases like a week after summer. :P I live in LA so it is warm as hell all the time out here. When a game relaeses in September I'm in shorts and sometimes I don't wear a shirt. It is hot in this city. So holiday and September never click with me personally. :P
Still, I'm sure I'll be playing it eventually, just not when it releases. It comes out a week after Rage and Rage looks pretty boss, bro! :D

Yeah, I just wanted to point out the "Holiday Title" idea or phraseology wasn't something I was throwing out there. :P As far as the weather, I have the same feeling, I hate shoveling snow and buying a wardrobe just for Winter. :P
My take on the September date for "Holiday Titles" (Some other companies do it for other games too) is that the game has got a few extra months to get sales, but and if it's quality the Hype can take that title through the actual Holidays. That's what I always figured anyways, and I know it worked more recently for last year's Halo Reach (Sept 14th). :P It also helps if the company in question doesn't have a lot of other 1st party choices in a similar category, in this case shooters. As a matter of fact, I remember originally reading GeoW 3 was coming Holiday 2010, and I remember thinking and discussing it at work that it was odd that GeoW3 would be potentially competing with Halo Reach. Then of course, GeoW3's date was changed. :P
Rage is another game to watch out for, it could surprise us all! :o :P

That's true. Halo: Reach's momentum really carried it forward. It also worked well for Halo 3 and ODST so I'm hoping it works for Gears of War 3 as well, so long as it's actually good. The three Halo games this gen were excellent, but only one Gears of War games was excellent. The other was lackluster.
But it's a good way to bring out a major exclusive at a rather secluded time of the year, get some attention only on your game and the momentum will carry you forward. Potentially if the holiday games flop (CoD is way overdue for a less than 9.0 score at this point) it could further help those games surpass it. Word of mouth is everything and if word goes around that MW3 isn't as good as Gears 3 it could help it get some more sales.
MS have been very good with shooters this gen. From Perfect Dark Zero (I know you don't like it, and Halo 2 destroys it on all accounts) to Gears of War to Halo 3 to ODST to Reach. Gears of War 2 was the one stumble in my opinion but it still got a ton of love (won user's choice voting for Best Shooter in 2008. I voted for Warhead I think).
Rage is going to be beast. People are doubting it since it doesn't feature some crazy multiplayer but boy oh boy is it good to see Id back in the game! :D
