Undeniably, it's a game where you play a role... which seems to be the new definition of what makes a game a RPG. It's missing a lot of the other standards of the genre, but I've seen reviewers refer to those aspects as minutia when talking about other recently released games. Does that make Heavy Rain a 100% minutia-free RPG?

Nope, it is a adventure game that lies within the interactive movie sub-genre(from what i played of the demo).

Can you pick a class to play Can you pick your name Can you customize the character Can you upgrade weapons Can increase stats And other things but it does not seem like a rpg to me.

It has certain elements that are in RPG, like branching story routes, and different choices that effect the outcome of the game, but those aren't really RPG exclusive mechanics in the first place.

By that logic, almost every game is a RPG. It is an adventure game.

Seems to me like you picked all the RPG elements Mass Effect 2 has . Well you know what it's still not an rpg.

You haven't played it. HR seems very similar to QD previous project Indigo Prophecy. That was a game trust me, one of the most unique games I've played. .

Picking your name is a defining factor of a RPG? If the game lets a character choose between weapons at some point, would that make it a RPG?

I saw a reviewer comparing the story to a Scorcese flick. That's as far from generic as it gets.

oh great LOL another person who uses panosola logic.

panosola if you don't mind me asking, where did you hear that it will have no replay value? you do realize that you can play the story through with different characters each time, and depending on which character dies, your story will be affected. Not only does that change the outcome of the story, but your actions and dialogue options do as well.

I mean even if the story changes only a little bit, story wise It'll at least have more replay value than Mass Effect 2. Now before everyone gets butt hurt about ME2, lets take a look at the 3 different endings you can achieve and the different sidequests you do.
say you do no additional sidequests and you get to the end, shepard dies but joker is alive sitting on the ship, the reapers are coming. You spend 4 extra hours doing sidequests and upgrading your ship, shepard survives but you blow up the facility, illusive man isn't impressed, then you see the reapers coming. You spend the 4 hours doing sidequests and upgrading your ship, but you save the ship, illusive man is impressed, then you see the reapers coming.

where's the variety? In bioware games, and mass effect specifically, isn't the outcome of your story supposed to be affected by your choices in game? Lets look at the sidequest variety. You talk to a shipmate, they need to go see a long time friend. When you find their friend, the friend isn't like they remembered, then you have a choice to stop your shipmate, or let them kill their friend. That's nearly EVERY sidequest.
now lets sit back and watch as he comes up with another illogical statement or watch him totally avoid the thread.

Picking your name is a defining factor of a RPG? If the game lets a character choose between weapons at some point, would that make it a RPG?

That is one aspect. Also I did not only mention names I mentioned more and said their are other ways. RPG let the player create a role. Your whole argument is your playing a role so it is a rpg then so is Halo, Gears, and so on. So besides you playing a prescripted role that developers make like in Heavy rain how is it a rpg? You did not even get to create your role in HR it is made for you.

No, I haven't. I got a beta key and tried it and it was far from impressive. Anyway, I think it was still wrong of me to bash the game simply after trying the beta.

You may want to read this particular page of Heavy Rain's review on gamesradar, thats pretty much what I think of it too.

How does "being far from impressive" have anything to do with the story being generic? and that review is of the FULL game, not the demo. The review states that heavy rain is badly written, where does it say that the story is generic?

But glad to see you can't form your own opinion let alone read the review that you supposedly agree with.

I was referring to what the story and gameplay seemed to me in the beta and like I said earlier I shouldn't have formed an opinion about the entire game though I fail to realise how the rest of the game would be good if the beta is sucks.

And as for the link, I posted it because its take on the story was the same as my opinion from the beta. And so what if I had formed my opinion from what the review said? ( which I didn't, by the way) isn't that the reason why reviews are posted in the first place? and then why do people at System Wars quote scores from gaming sites everytime if they want to prove their favorite game "superior" or something?

no one in this thread has quoted gaming scores yet? I believe you're the first person to even mention a review other than panosola lol.
