Poll Is Hideo Kojima still wanted as the dev for Silent Hill? (24 votes)

Obviously 79%
No, he would be great 21%
No Caption Provided

Hideo Kojima was recently ousted as a hack, living off the back of his hard working team who he begrudgingly credited. Some people are still in denial claiming Death Stranding is a good game while others have come back to reality.

Like that guy screaming LÁTTAM A KEYSER SÖZÉT!, no one listened and he got away it, using legacy as currency, however even that has a limit.

Their still seems to be a sect of people wishing he take the reins of Silent Hill.

This seems very odd. Hideo Kojima is a man who over-explains things with overly elaborate exposition where a game doesn't understand show and a don't tell. Even if it doesn't serve the story, or make sense, or is written well.

Where as I always had the impression of Silent Hill as a primarily subtle game built through a visual auditory experience of pretentious clitter-clatter music with fog covering everything in front of the player and a bunch of symbolism, and shit where the game explicitly doesn't spell it.

Are their still people hankering for Death Stranding visionary to take over this series? Are you one of them? Or would you prefer another developer, like Valve? Who will actually make a good game.

Only if Kojima collaborates with Guillermo del Toro again, he can't make a good P.T/Silent Hill game without Toro.

We’ll I’d certainly love to see him make a Silent Hill game myself. I really enjoy the games that he makes.

Kojima is kind of a bad game designer with some very bright spots here and there way back in the past ... regardless, i still think he would do a great SH game since he does have the touch for psychology and atmosphere, not to mention PT was really, really good despite some odd design choices and convoluted puzzles ... so yeah, i haven't enjoyed a Kojima game since Guns of Patriots but i want to see what he would do with Silent Hill.

Kojima is so overrated. Not only that but I feel he is past his prime... I could be wrong though, and I would love for him to prove me wrong.

What do you know. An obsessive Kojima hater makes an obsessive thread about Kojima.

Kojima is the best thing to happen to SH in a long time. Get over it you weirdo.

He was a lot better when the technology he worked with was crap, the PS2. The limitations created better art.

Sure. For starters there is a 70/30 chance we would get a Silent Hill game that doesn’t play like shit.

We have had more than enough bad silent hill games, so it isn’t like he can make the worst Silent Hill game.

His game wouldn’t invalidate what was enjoyable about SH1-3.

I'd rather not. Death Stranding suuuuuuuucked. Story, exposition, voice acting, etc. PT was great in inspiring 1st person horror walking simulators, but I'd want someone else to complete the actual product.

Kojima needs to retire. There are enough people duped into thinking Death Stranding is an "artistic" and "good" game, enough people that equate "being different" with "quality", that he could consider it ending on a high note.

In truth, it is more likely a sign of the beginning of the end for him.

He should get out while he still can. That way all the fans and even non-fans can reminisce over how awesome he is for the next short while as he fades into obscurity.

Pretty much this.

Japanese, and most companies for that matter, are insanely protective of their IP.

Hell no. I have said it countless times neither Kojima nor Del Toro have any idea what made the original Silent Hill games great and Kojima is a bad writer and awful game designer. The guy is a hack, always has been.

He does not have the rights to Silent Hill. Dead series, dead with Konami.

Got the part right he lives off the work of his team. Who in the world of gaming puts A YOUR NAME GAME! After so many worked on it. As a director his role is important, a role he failed at since he did a bad job directing Death Stranding. Can anyone imagine... Grand Theft Auto V, A DAN HOUSER GAME! lmao

I don't think Kojima is a good fit for the series and has no background in horror games. I haven't played Death Stranding put I have been completely put off by the gameplay trailers that I have seen and I would be worried that it would become overbloated with Kojimas involvement.

At least Del toro fit the bill to be involved and I would be interested to see his creative take on the creatures from Silent Hill.

Zone of the Enders is average at best and i really wanted to love that series, Guns of the Patriots was good, but it was filled with so many dumb choices and cringe momments ... so yeah, forgive me if i'm done with his silliness, his fart jokes and his terrible writing.

lol nice.

Yeah, it would be cool if someone else made a new Silent Hill game. I like the concept of Silent Hill, but I've no interest in Kojima's past works. Doesn't mean that I wont give his future games a chance if I think they look interesting, but it's unlikely.

Can't really know what a Kojima Silent Hill would be like, but I'm guessing more cinematic. Ew.

A game like Silent Hill is tailor made for Hideo Kojima. It totally suits his weird bizarro cult style of game development. A survival horror by Kojima should be great stuff.

@madsnakehhh: Nah, ZOE2 is one of the GOAT action games. Although Kojima didn't have that much direct involvement in ZOE2.

But sure, Kojima has been on a downward trajectory since Snake Eater. He still makes good games, but not GOAT level games like MGS 1-3.

Not sure I care at this point, it'll be a trickle tease of social media hints for months until probably he announces at Sony's PS5 showcase event, or later, then it'll be a few more years of waiting. Then when it does release who knows if it will be good, maybe it will be, or maybe it'll be one of those classic Kojima titles that are too hard to defend but everyone too scared to say it's nothing other than perfect. There'll be other survival horror titles release between now and then surely, I'll try to focus on finding those and playing the ones that interest me.

But, nonetheless, would be interesting to see Konami let him do this given the fracture. If that wasn't an option, given his relationship with Sony, I also wouldn't mind seeing him joining with their Japan Studios on a Siren reboot. The classic Japanese survival horror genre has been lacking (outside of Resident Evil) with Konami's failure to keep Silent Hill relevant, Sony putting no effort into Siren (good games but horrible publishing strategies), and Koei Tecmo giving Nintendo too much control of Fatal Frame and Nintendo effing that up, I'll take anything at this point.

I never really cared for game length to begin with. I'd take quality over quantity any day. And ZOE2 had quality in spades, a master-class in action game design. As for Kojima, he had more of a hands-off producer role on ZOE2 (with some ideas here and there), with Shuyo Murata (who's worked under Kojima on various MGS games) being the actual director of ZOE2.

He actually is more hands off than most people realize with Zone of the Enders. At best he gives advice, but those design concepts behind both games (especially 2, which is a much better game) is by no means a Kojima joint.

eh yes n no. He would kill it with the bat shit part of Silent Hill n a horror game with Kojima's love for cinema might actually be interesting as ****.

But given the reverence for the plot of the first 3 silent hill games, there is obvious pushback for a pretty valid reason. For all his narrative ambitions, he isn't subtle, and has historically been a shit writer, who has only gotten shittier at it.

You blew it from the start by hating on people who think DS is a good game. I think it's a great game, a lot of people do. It doesn't matter that you hate it just because Kojima is involved. Did you even play it? I have noticed that all the people who hate DS with a passion have one thing in common: they never fucking played it.

Is he suited for Silent Hill? P.T. says maybe, I dunno. I haven't played any of his other games (I hate MGS) so I'm probably not qualified to say but either are you. You are trying to get people to believe you're asking a question but it's really just a Kojima hate thread. Pretty poor show Cup.

I'm not actually sure Silent Hill is worth reviving anyway, much as I loved the games they got steadily worse with every release. It needs a total re-imagining. Maybe give it to the team who did RE7 that had a really creepy atmosphere and it absolutely should be first person this time around if they do another one.

I don't know man. I really didn't need to play Barbie Horse Adventure to know it's shit. DS is a game you know quite quickly if its for you or not, just by reading or watching some vids.

I usually don't play games I can clearly see that I wont enjoy. If I see that I wont enjoy a game, I can also explain why I wont enjoy it on forums, even though I never played the game. I'm not one of those passionately hating on DS you talk about, but I can clearly see it isn't for me.

Also, I wouldn't call this a Kojima hate thread. He's trolling Kojima fans, and to be fair, that seems like a pretty fun thing to do. Dude's poking fun at everything, you think he hates gaming?

That's fair enough. Thing is... I didn't like the look of DS at all from everything I'd seen. I don't know what made me even buy it in the first place, just curious after all the hype and the way it massively divided opinion.

Truth be told I didn't like it at all to start with, it takes a long time to get going. I ended up really liking it though. I suppose what I took offence to with the OP is he is suggesting people say they like it when they don't, like it's just not possible for people to like it. That seems to be the stance all DS haters take even though they've most likely never played it. It's all a bit weird tbh.

@blueinheaven: Yeah, I can see the game could grow on someone like it did for you.

Not sure why anyone would have such strong hateful feelings towards this specific game (other than trying to counter Kojima's popularity, or troll his fans). It clearly has high production values, the controls work, the graphics look nice, the story seems invested. You only looking for fast paced action gameplay? Yeah, you'll obviously not like this game. But calling it a piece of shit for that reason would be weird. That's like Ghosts calling everything but the 3 similar games he plays bad.

To me personally, Kojima's games feel very pretentious, and often focus on a story I either find cheesy, or don't give a shit about and have to endure if I want to play the game part of his games. So I just don't play them. I always try to stay away from heavily cinematic games, and since DS looks to be a cinematic game with lots of walking (uninteresting gameplay) in it, it's definitely not a game for me.
