Hello friends,

So after the recent released of this Hitman 3 and it finally conclude its trilogy. and so far we got 2 masterpieces 1 and 3 and one really really good game 2. but among all 3 games is one masterpiece package.

They maybe similar (yeah AC games being exact same every year) but its one of those series where more of same is not a bad thing since gameplay and level design is super good.

In the age when every third person is movie game. This trilogy break it all. and deliver some of the most deepest level design in history and these games basically saved dying stealth genre. I like how in these games you have multiple way to complete mission and kill target and be a silent assassin.

further more they redeem and recover after disaster of absolution which was action/movie game.

Hitman game always been amazing bar very first and absolution. each and every game is improvement over previous. further more its one of the only Long term series that is still remain in quality as other being Doom series.

Hitman 3 is so far GOTY 2021 and it by the end of year called one of the best game of 2021.

so my friend, Is this trilogy is among the best gaming trilogy? For me it sure is.

It’s definitely a trilogy that seems under appreciated. I need to get into them myself. I tried the first one way back but remember feeling very overwhelmed first starting a level. Seems like there’s a bit of a Groundhog Day affect in mastering the levels the more you play them.

Excited to see what they do with Bond. Really good dev for that IP.

I wish they would have kept adding on to the original HITMAN package instead of creating new titles and having a jankey process to merge the levels in such a way that it doesn't keep your progress.

At least that was my experience with 1 and 2. Is there a better way to get all the levels in one package at this point?

Metro - Excellent trilogy. one of the best one.

Mafia 1 was masterpiece, 2 was great, 3 sucked. Remake is worse than original in every way and ruined.

close to.

level design and control/smooth gameplay wise sure. but other than that not. since original trilogy had much better atmosphere.

While I enjoy these games, there’s a certain amount of trial and error that makes play throughs a bit frustrating and unfulfilling.

It’d be nice to know how the game is designed and structured.....do you have to “trigger” events to begin a cascading of actions throughout the world that culminates in a fortuitous opportunity, or does everything operate on its own timetable from the get-go? Every time I play I just wander around discovering, piece-mail, a part of the assassination solution. Yet much of the time when I discover or trigger something, I’ve no idea what to do and it bypasses me. It’s not really a satisfying way to play to have to use numerous play throughs to plan the eventual perfect one. I know the game offers a few assists (opportunities iirc), but it kind of defeats the purpose.

I find these good games but they’re really trial and error to a large extent. That “perfect kill” is always the product of 100 fumbling, imperfect ones. It doesn’t give me a very satisfying feeling of accomplishment the game tries to promote.

@ghosts4ever: I don't know what to tell you, but a space opera rpg with multiple path and choices, lots of customizations, rich lore and the like is not generic at all. Hitman on the other hand is just a snoozefest assassination sim. You have lots of those. Who cares about this silly games? They appeal to teenagers power fantasy, really silly and childish tbh.

yeah agreed, it doesn't quite sit right because the reliance on trial and error is contrary to the idea of playing as a world class assassin. the reality is you'll likely need umpteen goes at the mission to learn the interactables and triggers and timings of events to plan the perfect kill and getaway.

it's what makes me worried about the "loop" bit of deathloop

I have no problem with trail and error as long as the punishment doesn't turn to monotony and it actively encourages creativity.

it encourages more memorising than creativity from my experience. one man's memorising is another man's monotony.

im guessing the difference between hitman and deathloop will be the implicit vs explicit loop

I think if you basically have "1" method of doing something, with some "surprise motherfucker!" shit causing failure, bullshit.

Something like Desperados III that is practically build around quick-saving and quick-loading, most of the the time the player asking "what can do?" as opposed to "what must I do?", using the toolset to provide multiple avenues of approach.

@uninspiredcup: ha yeah. to be fair to hitman each level does provide some opportunities for creativity. even though it's carefully scripted you can think on your feet and react as things unfold. and you do get better at that the more you play and learn how the game works. it's not a constant slow slog of trial and error.

but there's definitely a benefit to treating the first few goes at a level just as a recon exercise. to really feel like the elite assassin and pull off the perfect kill and get away undetected, you generally need several goes at it, which in reality wouldn't make for a very good hitman. in the real world diana would be in his ear "jesus christ 47 you've messed it up again." agent p45

Is it really a trilogy? Hitman 1 was originally episodic, which emphasized the repetition of the level, as Mark Brown would call it. Hitman 2 and Hitman 3 could be more accurately thought of as seasons. The formula doesn't change, because the formula's possibilities are endless in potential.

Most trilogies improve on a formula or correct flaws within the formula. Take Mass Effect 1 to 2 to 3. The game design changed from an open world third person action RPG and evolved into more Gears of War TPS with RPG elements.

The formula in World of Assassinations never really improved, because the lessons from previous games were applied and perfected here. From the get-go, IO Interactive had a clear identity and idea of what Hitman was, a sandbox puzzle game with a clear goal; kill the target. The possibilities on how you accomplish this goal, is what encourages repetition.

If not broken, dont fix it.

Hitman has 3 games that are similar yet incredible amount of depth in level design. while we have seen AC havenot changed in decades.

furthermore, AC2 has its Ezio trilogy which consist of 3 exact same games.

There's really something off about hitman for me. The game looks so stiff as if animations are barely PS3 era but the graphics look okay.

I don't think I'd even put it in the top 50 trilogies. That said from what I've played it's good. I'll wait until they release an ultimate edition with all the games and DLC for $60... you know it's coming, so I'm just going to hold off on 3 for now.
