My Turtle beach x41's are like 3 years old now and i want to invest into a new pair of "Premium" headphones for my xbox 360/ps3. Wether it be Tritton, Turtle beach, or Astro's, when i invest into a premium product i look in to how long there going to last me before braking on me from normal wear and tear or turning "obsolete" from a more advanced product. So i try to invest into the best possible at the time. My turtle beach x41 are starting not to get as loud and also the talk back feature on it has decreased, so i can barely hear myself, which i need in order to hear loud im talking becuase my 2 year old nephey sleeps next to my room.

Should i get a new pair of top of TEH LINE headphones for my consoles(needs to be compatible w/ both 360/ps3) or should i keep my **** x41 and **** PX11 headphones for my ps3 and just wait till next-gen consoles? Im looking well forward to HALO 4, BO2 lol, Medal of Honor and i need a good pair of headphones to gaming to the next level. Please no trolls or fanboys...

What do you think is going to change in terms of sound tech in next gen consoles?

Your best bet is still a top quality set of stereo headphones, and that will continue to be true next gen and probably next gen after that.

I'm a PC gamer, so I don't know how headsets work on consoles. But I use an incredible ASUS Essence sound card with built in pre-amp along with a pair of Sennheisers PC 350's.

I haven't heard ANYTHING that matches the sound quality of this setup yet and I've tried just abotu every setup under the sun. It's pricy though, and again, I'm not sure how a pair of Sennheisers will funciton with a console... but ultimately, you shouldn't worry about it. Get what you want now. You will, GUARANTEED, be able to use it for next gen consoles.

Unless you have 7 ears, 5.1/7.1 headsets are overrated. You will get better quality and even better surround effect with a good pair of stereo headsets. PS: You have two ears.

This. Take it from soneone who's tried headsets with multiple drivers before, including Razer's new Tiamat 7.1. A ton of small driver s= weak sound, low quality sound, and a soundstage that does not feel any better than simulated surround with stereo headphones.

Quality stereo headset (large, quality drivers) + pre-amp and high quality sound card + dolby headphone or THX 3D sound or any other simulated surround technology = the best possible headset setup.

I would only get a new pair if the sound has degraded, or the model I like is being discontinued. Finding the bassy earbuds I like is hard so I tend to stick with them as long as I can.

Go with a quality set of headphones instead of gaming headphones. Something like the AKG 550 if you want a closed headphone that blocks outside nosie or DT 990 32ohm if you dont't mind or want an open headphone with almost no sound isolation. You can always buy a mod mic to attach to whatever headphones you buy altough if you really want a headset the MMX 300 the 32 0hm version of the DT 990 but with an integrated mic. Pair them with the astro mixamp for console use and you will be set for many many years with high quality sound. Audio equipment isn't like other stuff that loses value and becomes obselete within a few years sound.

This would be better suited for the Audio/Video Dicussion board.
