for Halo 3 to score lower than its predecessors but ultimately be the better of the three games? I have had this strange feeling for sometime now that Halo 3 will be scored much tougher than Halo CE or Halo 2 were but will also be the best of the series. From what I have seen, read and played(beta) it seems like Bungie has really taken the best parts of the first two games, mixed it ina blender with an ending and some new weapons, mapsand vehicles and came up with Halo 3. I also think that competiton itself will make Halo 3 standing out like the first two did even tougher. The thing that Halo 3 is facing that neither Halo CE or Halo 2 did is competiton. Halo 3 is going to go up against the likes of CoD 4, Metroid Prime 3, UT 3, Half Life 2 Orange and HAZE. The first two titles NEVER faced an onslaught like that!! What is everyone elses take on this?
Yes, because Halo:CE and Halo 2 were rated based on the standards of the XBox and the gaming standards of that time. Halo 3 will be rated based on the standards of the XBox and the gaming standards of this gen.
Yes it is...on a podcast I just listened to it said when you don't expect anything from a game and it hits it out of the park (coming from left-field) it is easier to score higher than an established franchise where expectations are through the roof. I don't think the competition will have much to do with it as many of those games are out months after halo comes out. But does it really matter what halo scores, it is gonna sell like crazy anyways, whatever its score is will just work up fanboys.

halo 3 competition is no where near as close (considering bioshock got a 9.0). But halo 3 is the better of the 3 games because of its unbelieavable replay value (forge, saved films etc).

Halo 3 really doesn't have any real competition especially in shooters i am sorry but when a game gets one million PREORDERS in the U.S alone the game is in its own league

Yes it happens all the time. GT4 scored significantly lower than GT3, but in the review it clearly says GT4 is the best simulation racer available on the PS2. Same with the Splintercell games, generally speaking Splintercell: Chaos Theory is accepted as the best in the series, yet it scored lower than Pandora Tomorrow. Also with Bioshock's comparitively low score on GS(its averaging a 97% on gamerankings) I could see Halo 3 scoring as low as 8.0.
