But is hardly outselling the Xbox One in only 13 countries? Ouch Sony.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
It's a pointless marketing gimmick really, the amount of stock they have for some countries is probably pitifully low.
So despite the fact the PS4 has to distribute to more countries it's still able to outsell the Xbone in the US despite greater stock restriction?
Sounds like a win to me.
You do know the market in those additional 37 countries is quite small. Sony simply knows that they did incredibly well worldwide last gen so why not beat Microsoft to the market. The Xbox One is clearly a console designed with the US in mind while the PS4 has a more global approach.
The fall of the Xbox brand has really upset lems...but made me extremely happy. :)
Is there any reason? Why would you be thrilled about one console selling SLIGHTLY more than the other when both are barely one month old. Oh I get it, maybe you're happy that all of the cocky Xbox fans will finally stop spamming your PS forum section and constantly trashing the PS4. Playstation fans are children.

B-}
It would be surprising if a company as large as Sony did not sell it in 50 countries.
M$ is far far far bigger..... if it was legal they would buy Sony with pocket change.
So does microsoft sell phones? Tvs? full entertainment systems? own fully fledged music and movie companies? make car radios? high end audio equipment for there music and movie companies? hows about Cameras that can shoot in a higher resolution than 4K? i don't see microsoft doing any of that so i wonder how they are far bigger than sony?

Well they do sell phones, but this post is irrelevant. They have a near monopoly on PC operating systems. They are worth over 13 times as much as Sony. But no, they don't sell car radios.
If both companies had a literally infinite supply and sales were solely based on demand, sure it might be disappointing. Seeing as that isn't the case no, it just means that Sony is selling out their limited supply in many more markets. Probably a better idea to do that than not, to be honest.
I like how people try to act like SONY has sold more because it is available in more countries... lol
Do you think the X1 has sold more consoles in the 13 it released in then the PS4 did in those same countries? Most of the countries outside of the big 13-15 aren't going to be putting large sales numbers up. SONY is just strengthening their relationship around the world. Where as Microsoft knows they don't appeal to as large and diverse user base as SONY. They are TRYING too lock down their "superpower" territories... and they are still failing to leap ahead even when they are almost guaranteed to have a larger stock within those 13 since they aren't spread so thin.
@farrell2k:
So by your logic, Microsoft should have been wiping the floor with Sony. Yet sales from three generations put together still cannot outsell the PS2. It barely outsells the PS1. With all this money spent, what has Microsoft outsold besides the Gamecube?
@DarthBilf: funny thing is, Microsoft tried to get Sony to build a Windows Phone 8 last year and were told to get fucked.
What does it matter as long as they sell more.
He's too butthurt so he is just trying to come up with lame justifications. This justification of MS and Sony selling around 2 million (according to latest number sony sold 100,000 more, but sony's reported number is one week older than MS reported numbers) is dumb and hypocritical for two reason:
1. When Sony announced that 2.1 million number, I'm pretty sure the countries it launched wasn't the current 48 countries, meaning the system launched in new countries since the reported number which obviously would tell us there are more than 2.1 million sold......
2. Pretty much all lems ignore the fact that ps3 launched one year later than x360 but seem to want to claim ownage over sales when sony caught up (still debatable over which has sold more).... hypocrites lol. This is kind of the same thing isn't it? lol
Dumb logic, PS4 selling in 50 countries hurts their supplies in the most demanding ones. But, think about what they're doing. They're establishing first in other countries before the X1. Do you know what that does in the long run? You probably don't....
Ps4 announced that 2.1 million number around Dec 3rd or so
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/12/03/ps4-sells-over-21-million-units-globally
Ps4 launched in 15 more countries around Dec 13th
http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2013/12/13/ps4-launches-in-15-more-countries-brings-total-to-48/
TC using numbers sold for countries that the systems wasn't available in to try to claim ownage..... Gotta love self ownage
MrXboxOne you should just stop posting, first you say Halo series has sold more than Gran Turismo Series (which I proved wrong in another thread) and now this.... LOL
This is the thing that makes me laugh when Sony fanboys blab off about the PS4 thrashing the Xb1 in sales. In reality, if the two launched in the same amount of countries the Xb1 would be far ahead.
Wow. Lems are losing it. No exclusives for 360 in 2013. No game of the year exclusive. Getting destroyed by both ps3 in games and ps4 in sales.

Exactly. I didn't realize it until some years back when I was on a FIFA forum but outside the US Sony pretty much dominates the console market. Granted the US market is the crowned jewel for a lot companies, but the fact remains that the EU still has ~200 million more people then the States. You also have to remember that Sony caught up to Microsoft last gen in sales in spite of Microsoft having a year long head start, much better exclusives near launch, better versions of multiplats, and a poorly managed launch campaign from Sony.
Maybe since it didn't outright win last gen a lot of people have forgotten but the Playstation brand has been outright dominant for a long time now. Eventually PS3 will likely be the third straight home console of Sony's to surpass the 100 million sales mark. To put that in perspective Nintendo has only done that once with the Wii, Microsoft won't reach it until the 360 eventually gets to that point a couple years down the road, and Sega never was able to reach the 100 million milestone. Sony has already done it twice with the PS1 and PS2.
I have a hard time thinking that Microsoft will be able to catch up this gen as they don't have the one year head start that allowed them to have people become invested in the Xbox brand before Sony could even release their system. It also really hurts that Microsoft will be fighting off the reputation that they have not only the less powerful system, but a system designed for non-gamers with their TV, TV , TV, TV pitch, which is especially odd in a time where chord cutting has become more in vogue. Not saying its completely true or justified but you don't have to be in System Wars long to realize that this is the type of stuff that will catch on with Little Timmy when he's telling his parents which system he wants for Christmas. Many console wars have been won and lost on reputation alone.
Keep in mind this is all coming from someone that currently owns 2 PC's, a PS3, and a 360 and also plans on buying a PS4 and XBO down the line.

Its debatable about what it does. I understand the concept of selling something in short supply (and thereby expecting to increase its attractiveness). I guess that's the best approach when money is a consideration and it works best for them. M$ on the other hand, will have more concentrated launches with the accompanied marketing blitz in order to increase demand. It would be an interesting case study to see which launch is more effective. Its too bad both products aren't sold at the same price. It would make the study easier with less variables.
What a useless and unimaginative thread.
Sony doesn't have unlimited supply, they're spreading their supply across 50 countries instead of 15. The number of PS4's available over 50 countries is probably the same amount MS have allocated to 13.
The only numbers that matter are sales from UK, US, Spain and France which shows PS4 in a comfortable lead. In Germany, even a PS4 controller is scarce but I've seen pics of stacks of Bones.
I hear Sony is selling PS4s to Iran and North Korea so they can be re-purposed to be supercomputers to aim their nuclear weapons.

the price is what has the PS3 winning, if it was at the same price M$ would be winning where there's a higher demand for having more options. :P would have had to be a very similar product.

You were discussing the virtues of the strategy of selling in lots of countries vs selling in a concentrated number. Therefore, I was isolating the discussion to that. ;)
And its debatable as to who is "winning". It seems the sale numbers are so close that no one is winning if you're using a simple tally of sales numbers to determine a winner.

You mean those same 50 countries it JUST NOW released in?
Sigh, nothing has changed.

The PS3, The Dreamcast, The Ouya, The PSP. Not sure if troll or just dumb. Sony and MS fanboys having the same dyumb arguments with nothing to back it up with the same idiots.
lol MS flooding the fvck out of NA to clammer marketshare back. I'm not surprised it's not far behind the PS4 in NA. The shareholders aren't gonna be happy if the XB1 is getting royally trounced in it's own home land. Bad for business and bad for the division. Hopefully the sales are enough to please the new CEO...
