IMO, not yet..unless the next gen console can render (realtime gameplay graphics)the same graphics as clear as the intro movie clip of GranTurismo 5 or the movie clip of dantes inferno when his wife was murdered.im still happy with the capacity of consoles graphics specially when playing God of war3. i was really shocked the first time i played it.melvz99you don't want a new console till 2025?
anyway if a new console came out tomorrow i would buy it, it's been over 5 years which is pretty long in the tooth for a game system.
Nintendo needs to, since the wii is so much weaker than other consoles right now and is extremely gimicky. I would also like to see Sony and Microsoft releasing new consoles... I don't feel like waiting for devs to find the 'full potential' in currernt gen consoles.
I'm happy either way.
The consoles are straining to produce graphics that can still wow us while the PC darts on ahead in lightspeed and makes a mockery of the HD twins in the process.
I don't like the fact that developers have to sacrifice certain parts of a game in order for it to run smoothly, look better, have more robust features etc.
On the other hand, I don't think now would be a particularly financially viable time for MS and Sony to be releasing expensive next-gen hardware. Alot of people are already strapped for cash and that could lead to the new consoles falling flat on their faces.
As I said, either way is fine with me. I predict Holiday 2012 for a new MS console. Kinect will have been out for two whole years then. A 2012 release also explains the lack of any exclusive games announced for that year.
This generation is clearly drawing to a close. Look at how many big releases publishers are trying to squeeze into 2011; a record number of sequels are landing this year but there's little confirmed for 2012. Kinect and Move they are clearly just last-minute cash-grabs to buy time for the new hardware to be ready.
These signs indicate that at least least one player will announce a new console in 2012 or possibly late 2011, but of course they will all deny this until then and continue spouting nonsense about their ten-year strategies and so forth (conveniently concealing the fact that the PS2's ten-year strategy involved being sold alongside the PS3 for several of those years).
It is about time in my mind.
The consoles have long since been spent, and it has for some time been "who can cut most corners in order to make good visuals" and not a "unused potential" thing we are seeing now.
its been 6 years, I would not want any kind of technology to stagnate for much longer then that.
Looks at Samaritan demo, then at TW2, no let's wait 'til that can be done in real time on the consoles -Looks at UC3 and Gears 3, then looks at The Witcher 2- Yes.
DreamCryotank
Nope. Devs are hitting the graphical ceiling of consoles, meaning they'll hopefully start making better design decisions instead off increasing the graphics or tacking on a subpar multiplayer component.
If we got new consoles now, mostly all we'd see is prettier games with the same glaring flaws that are evident this gen (Limited to no physics, laughable AI, etc)

agreed....dont forgot bioshock in 2012 tho
i think that the consoles need to come out before the 10 year time limit.....but i give it as early as 2013/2014....
I say extend this generation indefinitely. Console gamers are happy with the games, so why create a new round of hardware?
I think it easily is, I always thought a few years ago that 2011 would be the release of the first console for the new gen. That's a 6 year period which is very standard. There needs to be a new console by next year because the technology gap between consoles and PC is just getting ridiculous and keeps on growing. I don't remember PC's absolutely slaughtering the old gen consoles like they do now. Technology just advances so much faster now than it use to I guess.-RocBoys9489-
People need to stop stressing this "technology gap" and graphics and actually start focusing on the games. Look at development costs - they're sky high. Tell me which you prefer - fewer new IPs and more staleness with good graphics, or new IPs with not so great, but still acceptable graphics? I'd take the latter, everytime. People who keep arguing for graphics and keep screaming about "outdated tech" need to wake up and realize as games get more expensive, the fewer risks devs and publishers will take.
Nothing against you, RocBoys - you made a good point about technology moving faster. I just had to rant a little bit. But nonetheless, games keep getting more expensive, so something's got to give.

You wish lol.

It hasn't even been E3 yet man... give it a rest. Clearly there will be many games announced for the current platforms in 2012 in the coming months.

this. my wallet can not take a new series of consoles.....and im afraid of the price of them
I really dont understand the people who dont want a new system sooner rather than later.... I know I still wouldn't want to game on my 6 old PC. I'd love something new. AutoPilotOnwell it only really gets prettier, so people that don't care and just want to spend money on games wouldn't want another system that does the exact same thing,
I'm happy either way.

yet pc gets very few exclusives that push hardware. Graphics have gone pretty much no where since 2007 on the pc .

I disagree: Stalker CoP + complete mod, JC2, Shogun 2, Metro 2033, Arma 2, Dow2, BC2 are all better than 2007 games (except modded Crysis).
PC has absolutely advanced.
They are all going to stretch it out as long as possible, Sony and MS want to suck as much profit out as they candarkspineslayer
I'm not surprised with the increased costs of the jump in hardware from the previous generation to this. I seriously doubt there will be a big jump from current gen consoles to the next with whats available now, other than the Wii, that will be cost efficient.
Nintendo made a statement with their system imo, how long did it take the 360 or ps3 to catch up in units sold?
