Background: - played FF 1 via the GBA re-release. Found it not that bad... gameshark and some modest codes let me focus on the plot which was pretty well put together considering that this was basically a remake of a game that was out on the NES. - touched FF2 briefly on the same cart. the whole "TK for skill level ups" is a bit too far in the extreme for me. - FF3 DS... found it too annoying. - FF4 - grew to love this game on SNES and even PS1. Not so much on DS. - FF5 - Didn't like on PS1... preferred the fan translation and GBA re-translation. Job system in this one was damned near perfect. Too bad job points weren't as equally perfected. - FF6 - great... except that I could never finish it. Always got hopelessly lost, and was ticked that neither Nintendo nor anyone else would come out with a proper strat guide so I could take it with me when I was away from home with the GBA copy. - FF 7 - um... what more can I say that hasn't already been? Materia system is damned near perfect. - FF 8... felt good at the start, but pretty much got sick of it by the second half. Only played to finish it just so I could be done with it and not have to look at it again. - never played FF 9 - FFX... bought it, and wishing I'd only rented it. I positively HATE Tidus with a seething rage, and the rest of the cast rarely, if ever, does any better. I've often considered writing a goddamn book about how bad this game was in nearly every exhausting aspect. - refused to touch FF XI on principle. - FF XII - rented it... got to where the supposed main character finally talks... and promptly returned it. TL;DR and Summary: That being said, I'm being offered FF XII on 360 for practically a give-away. Do I bite, or pass?
I think it's definitely worth a play. But if you couldn't get past when Vaan talks in XII, then XIII is hardly the game for you.

Call it facetious if you wish, but if I have to question the gender/orientation of a character for more than five minutes of play, something is very wrong here. To this date, I wouldn't be surprised if someone at square released updated reference art that showed Tidus had a vagina and Lulu a penis Because Tidus was such a **** throughout the whole damn thing it was like he was permanently on the rag. And it would always take Lulu to return with the morality **** slap to get him to get on with what needed to be done.

Never had that problem with Vaan. He was obviously a teenage boy. Sounded like a normal teenage boy. Looked kinda weird with those upside-down abs though.

Uh, much much ... much faster than 4~7. The game takes "ATB" to the extreme.
I'd say its definitely worth playing but if you hate anime and linearity its safe to say you won't care for it much, unless you REALLY love the battle system.

The battles in this game are probably the best the series has ever seen, it's just that the story direction is poor - and it's magnified by a weak translation and stiff voice acting.
I just got it used for $20 and its going to be my first FF.

Please dont use that jester spoony. Hes a joke of a man and I will leave it at that. On topic to be honest idk. This game split in the middle some people hate it others dont. Though I will say the combat system is fun and satisfying.
I'd say no. It's way too linear, boring, and dull. The main character is a cool chick though, but the supporting cast around here is annoying. I couldn't even gather myself to finish it.
Hey, I know this sounds weird... but, FF 9 is the only one I'd never actaully been able to get a copy of... not even to rent when PS1's were readily available and such. I think it's safe to say I won't be able to get it now. And it won't do me any good to tell me it's on PSN, since Sony apparently doesn't want my money without neutering my ps3 first.

FF3 on the SNES was my favorite and I played every american FF at that point(original,2(4), mystic quest).
based on your op no the game takes way to long the actually get off you will get bored of it , still a great game even if it's not on par withe the rest of the series.

gameplay and music were decent ... the graphics too, other then that it was pretty bad. I personally don't recommend it to anyone especially final fantasy fans, the game might just turned them into haters of the series
FFXIII was a great game. Music wasn't the best, nor was the story the best. But it certainly isn't the worst FF out there (like many others, I'd place it in the middle ground). I would actually recommend the game for the combat system alone: it's VERY different from your typical ATB style turn-based jRPG, and once you get into it, can get quite addicting and offers deep mechanics that require quick swapping between classes and timing attacks to sustain or trigger chain breaks and the like.
If your going to buy it, think of it as buying a movie rather than an RPG. Then you possibly might like it.

I wouldn't say this. I'm fairly certain there's less game time devoted to cutscenes in this game than most other modern Final Fantasy games, excluding maybe FFXII ... but even FFXII's cutscecnes run longer.
I haven't played them all. But I'm liking it so far (only about 8 hours in, which is the worst part from what I've read). Before this I only played 7 and 8 on PS1, and XII on PS2. I won't rank them but this game is really beautiful to look at, especially the cutscenes which are bordering on a CGI feature film in terms of quality. It is VERY linear which I think has been beaten to death. Battle system isn't bad, maybe a little too "automatic". I liked the old school turn based systems better.
