Does Crackdown 2 just look really bad? I came across this video and the game just looks bland, low res, bad textures, bad animations, and just... bad. The blood splatter easily looks the worst, but buildings, the sky, etc... all look bad.

I was a huge fan of the first Crackdown and it was one of the reasons I held on to that console for as long as I did (was basically the only 360 exclusive that didn't bore me to tears), but now with a game like Infamous likely getting a sequel (may have been announced, don't know for sure) I just don't see a reason to pick up a 360 again (buddies in the Reach beta said it was fun but will only be popular because it is Halo).

I really hope this is just very early footage or something, because I was kind of looking forward to playing this game on a friend's 360.

I agree visually it looks poor But the gameplay looks fun as hell. I just hope it has more variation to it over the course of the game. Crackdown is fun and all, but that game felt like it was over in a flash and really doing the extra crap was kind of a waste of my time.

Actually it does look a step up from the previous game. Player characters looks very nice and have good AA, as well as player vehicles. Draw distance and detail of buildings farther off has improved. One thing that should be mentioned is that Crackdown has always had a superb draw distance.

Crackdown was never about good gfx. It's a sandbox game that's a blast to play in co-op mode with a bud. I'll probably wait 'til it's $20-30 to buy it though.

It just looks like more of the same without improved graphics. It will be the same game with different enemies and story.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The first one nailed fun gameplay for me, it just didn't have any sort of story or context or pacing. If this one keeps the awesome gameplay and fleshes things out a bit I'll be a happy bunny :)

The video you posted looks like a mediocre PS2 game. Very sad.

Wow, what PS2 do you have?

And to the OP, if the gameplay is intact there's no reason to complain.

I noticed Crackdown 2 looked really meh when it was in GI.

The 360 can do better than that, it's almost like they aren't even trying.

Scale it down and add some jaggies and it looks like a Wii game:

75+ npcs/vehicles/objects on screen, 4 player co-op and a superb draw distance might be the problem. Should have scaled back the npcs and draw distance to appease the graphics whores with better textures.

I just don't get why graphics mean EVERYTHING to people now a days and maybe my glasses are different than others because I think most games on ALL systems have looked amazing lately including the latest "flops" but whatever. One FACT that many have over looked in this thread is that the devs have already confirmed that while playing the up to 4 player co-op, all 4 agents will be able to access ANY portion of the island at ANY time. Meaning that you do not have to be right next to, or even near, a fellow agent and you can do whatever you like. Maybe things like this, and draw distance, etc. etc., are the reason it doesn't have teh Graphix!!!!???

It looks sub-par and disgraceful, but I'm still looking forward to it, as long as there are interesting additions to original game's formula.

But then again Yakuza 3 looks abysmal, and no one complains.

And it's not like graphics matter in Yakuza anyway (not that it's a great game, though).

Graphically... Not really top tier imo. It doesn't look much different than the 05 game. Honestly if the PS3 can handle InFamous, I don't see why can't open world games exclusive to the 360 push themselves a little harder too..

Then again I didn't really like InFamous so yeah.:P Let's see how Crackdown 2 plays..

Yakuza doesn't have a huge budget. Also it looks alright for it's type of game, Crackdown on the other hand can easily have an awesome art style and colors to give a Jet Grind Radio sort of feeling but nope, it looks more bland than Yakuza.

Not all games are made to compete with the graphical greats, the 360 has RDR to show what it can do with graphics in a sandbox environment, Crackdown was and Crackdown 2 will be all about pure fun.

Scale it down and add some jaggies and it looks like a Wii game:

skektek

Lol.

Yeah, it doesn't look too good there, but they did explain that those screen shots take away the "graphic novel" look because they are huge screens which are then scaled down. But the cell shading effect doesn't scale for higher res, so then when it's scaled down it's not as distinctive.

This game relies a lot on artstyle so it's hard to always look good. Some screens look crap, some look good.

I'm surprised at all these, "CRAPPY GRAFIX!1!" comments! Let's do a quick rundown here: -Incredible draw distances -Hundreds of A.I., cars, and explosions on screen at once -Very good framerate, ~40 fps -Very crisp, clean, not many jaggies The game looks pretty impressive I think, wait til July 6 on your HDTVs for final judgement

It's crazy people are talking about gfx still.

My friend and I used to have a blast playing co-op. Here's an example:

If you let bodies out of view of one of the players, they disappear, so one of us would stand and watch the body pile while the other harvested npcs around the map. We piled up about 50-60 bodies in the middle of the street, then my bud got in a bus, gunned it, and ran the pile over.

Then there's the game where you grab a crack dealer, take him to the top of a skyscraper, and toss him off. Your teammate has to time his attack and try to kick the body before it hits the ground. I know...hilarious!

There's a broken off part of one of the bridges, and we'd stand by traffic and open fire. The npcs would drive their cars off the bridge out of fear. It's funny to watch their desperation.

---

This is what Crackdown is all about. There's so many fun and crazy things to do since it's a sandbox game. People talking about gfx have no idea what made Crackdown so fun. The gfx weren't bad either. It was like watching a violent cartoon.
