I was just going through google news when i came accross this news article about the PS3s upcoming launch in the UK. Now is it just me or does this read more like an advertisement than a impartial article?

tbh the whole thing seemed iffy. It did seem like an advertisement actually

Sony must have examined the innovative gameplay functions of the Nintendo Wii when developing the Emmy award-winning Sixaxis gamepad for the PlayStation 3 as it works on much the same principles.

erm I thought that was a mistake wasn't it something else:?

After the first sentence... "On March 23, Britain will see the launch of the latest and undoubtedly the greatest video game console ever ..." it was kind of obvious that the article was biased.

Its from a website that got populare talking about the reality TV show Big Brother UK. Not exactly a gaming focused site.

Anyway, on topic, there could be other motives, such as Sony giving support, merchants giving support to the site, or it could be as simple as the writer is a Sony fan. Nothing really to sweat.

To some, the PS3 will be the best system ever. Others might find that to be the 360 or the Wii. And there will be people who prefer older systems. It happens.

The Emmy was for their original DualShock, not the SixAxis

Yes, totally iffy. It's either a paid article or a lazy incompetent journalist who used Sony's PR material as-is. A *lot* of journalists use PR as a source for material, but they are supposed to apply analysis to its contents, to filter the marketing speak.

I just E-Mailed the author this:

Just so you know, not only does your article read like you were paid by Sony to write it, you also have a glaring error that popped out to me.
You wrote, "Sony must have examined the innovative gameplay functions of the Nintendo Wii when developing the Emmy award-winning Sixaxis gamepad for the PlayStation 3 as it works on much the same principles."
The error is that Sony won the Emmy for the original Dual Shock controler for the Playstation and Playstation 2, not the Sixaxis.
A sample from http://www.gamespot.com/news/6164037.html, "Wednesday morning [January 10, 2007], the confusion was dispelled when Sony issued a statement retracting its earlier proclamation of a Sixaxis Emmy. "In a press release dated January 8, 2007, SCEA announced we had been recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) with a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award for the Sixaxis wireless controller," it read. "Due to miscommunication between the two organizations, this information was incorrectly reported. SCEA won a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award for the DualShock controller."

Emailing the ombusdman (if the paper has one) and the editor is a better idea. Some kind of journalist association too...

Lets all email them, seriously. We should start a contest on who gets a response back first
