mgs 2 had a pretty rubbish story, but it kepyt you going for at least half way through before becoming complicated, and it had the best cutscene ever in a game IMO, the one where the african woman deflects a bullet straight into dracs head
LOL!
"You can call me Momma...*turns around, camera zooms in, constipated facial expression" Big Momma"
Is that effin necessary? What happened to MGS1's simple and effective (yet realistic and dramatic) character intros?
"Camera stays fixed (held back by tech, but it worked), my name is ****"
"Why are you here?"
"I worked for ****, but its been pretty rough lately. It seems that they planted a bomb at ****."
"where is this bomb?"
"I believe its in ***, if you follow me I'll show you were."-JayWong-
I think it died in MGS3 when the Pain was doing his Power Ranger impressions.

you didnt like raiden? LOL
mgs 2 was still a great game IMO despite not making a lick of sense by the end
I still don't get what people mean when they say MGS2 had a bad story. It was a good story, but you just had to sit and listen to get all of it. It definitely had its twists and turns though, but the Arsenal part was my favorite part.Lab392
Only good story from the MGS series, IMHO, is MGS1 and maybe MGS3, thats it. The story looks convoluted, too many characters, and it seems like its one big fan-service game to bring every character (dead or alive) back, because some fanboy cried himself to sleep when Meryl supposedly ate the dust.
It looks like another MGS2, WAY too preachy, especially with its cheesy ass political monologues. "THIS..is Liberty...THIS..is what the Patriots meant..!"
Kojima, too, needs to stop riding his ego, "Kojima's BACK!" "Another director? ...NO!...ONLY KOJIMA!"
...are you kidding me?

I'll know when I finally get the chance to play it. But remember, just because you can't follow a story, it doesn't mean it is not good.
Although I will agree with the preachy and "cheesy ass political monologues" comments.
they lost me at laughing octopus.jack_russelThats from the new MGS4 so you loved every other MGS story line, thats good to hear.;)

I honestly believe MGS has a good story, as do the millions of fans that follow it religiously. I think it's one of, if not, the greatest story I've ever played, watched, or read. Yeah, sure it can be corny, and of course it's off-the-wall crazy, but I never experienced a story so gripping, and engrossing like Metal Gear Solid. And MGS4 will be no different. In fact, it will be the best part yet.
I also think the after-death monologues of nearly every MGS1 boss were pretty cheesy as well. The MGS games take themselves way too seriously for thier own good.
MGS1 had my favorite story, MGS2's was a close 2nd and the most meaningful for me. You just had to play through it a couple times before you fully understood it and its ingenious plot. MGS3 was pretty boring for me until the last 3rd of it, plus it had the best ending so far in the series. But so far it looks like MGS4 is gonna be pretty awesome and epic.
Maybe you would think different if you didnt skip the cut-scenes?
Or maybe you just smoke to much pot and cant understand a dam thing.
