Sorry , i got crazy with nostalgia over Ninja Gaiden 2 Black re release with newly added NG + feature with latest update. Enjoyed original on 360 and Sigma 2 and very glad its blend of both now.

And Ninja Gaiden Black Original on xbox still gives me nightmares (Particularly Piranha Fish) when compared to Bayonetta , God of War , Devil May Cry, Nier and other Hack & Slash games.

Not to mention Platinum Games (makers of Bayonetta) making Ninja Gaiden 4 with new character with Ryu in tow.

Is it me or Ninja Gaiden owns Bayonetta, God of War,Devil May Cry in Hack & Slash?

Well?

Was always my least favorite of the bunch. It still rocks tho and I'm glad these games aren't dead.

Its you.

Nah, but in all seriousness. Its one of the best HnS games out there but personaly my favorite is DMC. I prefer its combat mechanics cause they're more complex and harder to master imo. DMC requires you to master combos while NG requires better reflexes. Its down to personal preference.

I consider DMC, NG and Bayonetta to be the holy trinity of the HnS subgenre, combat wise. You cant go wrong with any of these

DMC lets you do in game what many can only do in cutscenes. See link below (cant post video directly cause I'm on my phone)

My favourite one is God of war. I dunno if it's the mythology theme or the combat system but the game speaks to me.

Currently trying to play Dante's Inferno as well.

Speaking of Ninja Gaiden Black: what do you guys think about Rise of the Ronin? You like the game?

God of War is stylishly fun, specially 3.

Dantes Inferno is underrated gem.

Seems Rise of the ronin is like Nioh and souls.Yet to play it tho.

@indy_2024: I plan on getting Rise on PC, seems like next month will be my fantastical trip to Japan because I'll be playing both Shadows as well as Rise.

Wouldn't know, haven't played any of them except Bayonetta. Not a fan.

NG definitely looks the best of the bunch though.

NG is top of the pops in my book. Nothing holds a candle to it. I've been playing NG2 on backwards compat on my Xbox recently. It's godly.

Definitely prefer NG+DMC over Bayonetta which has too much going on with it's constant interruptions to combat (set pieces, QTEs etc)

Ninja Gaiden is the best when it comes to simply hitting things. Really feel the impact from your attacks and it's made even better by the wonderful dismemberment.

All 3 have better combat then GoW.

I think they're all hack and slash, but really different sub-systems that differentiate them too much to compare side by side. Ninja Gaiden is hyper fast while DMC was more combo strings and GOW used to be more situational combat. I can't speak for Beyonetta because it was a little too odd and cringy for me.

Yeah Ninja Gaiden is tops for me as well. Closely followed by Devil May Cry and Bayonetta.

I kinda already answer this similar thread by RSM-HQ in Games Discussion, so I'm just gonna copy/past what I said a few weeks ago.

Darksiders games are really interesting games mixed with a little horror/religious theme to it. So I'm going with the Darksiders games and this is how I rank them:

Darksiders.
Darksiders 3.
Darksiders: Genesis.
Darksiders 2.

God of War games (Greek sagas) come in seconds for me but as time went on, I got tired of Kratos being all angry and doesn't give a damn about anyone, so it kinda fell off my interest till the Norse saga came along and change that but that's another story for another thread time. As for Ninja Gaiden, it's good but not my favorite franchise despite I've played just about all of them.

It looks like we are lucky to have a lot of strong entries in the genre to choose from. I probably enjoy Bayonetta and GoW most out of those but there are others I could add to the list that are good too like Stellar Blade

Stating Ninja Gaiden is the best 3D Slasher is similar to stating Silent Hill is the best in Survival Horror. Many fans of the genre will respect your point of view and state "those are great games". However "best" isn't really the right word; more that it's your "favorite" because what Ninja Gaiden offers is what you want over the others.

Ninja Gaiden arguably has one of if not the best combat system of the bunch, Ninja Gaiden 2 taking it to the next level for its combat. As it requires more general awareness of your surroundings over the other offerings. Ninja Gaiden is far from flawless however, having some weird and straight up poor game design across its run.

Personally I put the best DMC entries up in the same tier as Ninja Gaiden even in the combat department. And Devil May Cry 3 is my favorite Hack n' Slasher of all time. Devil May Cry & it's little sister Bayonetta rewards style and not getting hit, it's pure madness and chaotic compared to NG, in Ninja Gaiden even on Master Ninja you can use a heal and not be punished for it. DMC on its highest difficulties demands perfection. They both have a ton of depth and extremely challenging on the highest settings.

I love NG, and have 100% in a few entries, that camera though is absolute trash. It's the worst of all the heavy hitters in the genre. One of my greatest desires for Ninja Gaiden 4 is fix that shitty camera!

A big fan & 3D Slashers are just really fun to binge. Just grab a pile: Darksiders, Stellar Blade, Soul Reaver, Lollipop Chainsaw, etc and have some fun.

I consider NG, Bayo, and DMC (along with TW101 and God Hand) a cut above what GoW has always offered. Even the more B-tier stuff like MGR and Hi Fi I'd take over GoW.

NG always been my personal fav, but I see the big hitters in the aforementioned series' as being every bit as good. All just different spins on the genre, executing their goals to the same level. NG and DMC being the two extremes. NG all about being agile and on your toes, reacting to enemies who will delete your ass if you slip. Top notch game feel, every slice and crunch just feels perfect. DMC is like the Tony Hawk of 3d beat em ups. Mostly fighting punching bags, but that's fine. The challenge isn't about progressing through encounters, rather pushing the afforded mechanics as far as you can. And that shit goes stupid deep, mastering Dante is like learning to play an instrument, some people spend years refining their play.

Find a lot of the genre is somewhere between the two. Bayo clearly leans more towards DMC in feel and flexibility. Not quite as flexible, but the enemies make up for it with aggression and enemy mixing leaning more towards something you'd find in NG. And of course introducing its own wrinkles to the play, stuff like dodge offset being a brilliant mechanic that more games should adopt.

Anyways, bunch of great games, so much replayability. One doesn't really displace the other, I just play what I'm in the mood for.
