Is it normal to blow at Ninja Gaiden on your first 100 tries?

Seriously, I get my ass handed to me on a silver platter at about the point where you get the Key of Courage. I have about half of my life left with one elixir left for the white ninjas guarding the door to the temple and then if I'm lucky, will beat all of the ninjas before I fight the nunchaku guy. At this point, I have little to practically no health and one swing at me sends me to be made into Chinese food.

Am I just bad?

Yes, it's normal to suck at first with this game. I was really bad at first. But after beating the game on xbox, i ran through the ps3 demo in like 7 min. So, you'll get a LOT better. But don't get me wrong, this game gets HARD in some places.

At least people responded to me on SW, unlike the Ninja Gaiden Sigma board.

I honestly thought I was really bad, since you know, it is the first level after all.

I made it to the boss the first time with nearly full health and a hand-full of elixers. Sadly, he whooped my *** the first time I fought him. I beat it the second time. Hard mode is completely different. I can't beat that! I made it to the boss, but he destroys me pretty quickely.

Don't get discouraged though. Keep at it and I'm sure you'll beat him.

Well, I killed those white ninja's kinda easily. On my first try but that was NG:B so...

I dunno, I usually grasp things quite quickly though so I suggest you just keep at it. The REAL trouble comes from that ****ing LAZOR firin' mofo'. Argh..

I was always afraid to play Ninja Gaiden because I've heard how hard it was. I see now that hard is an understatement, at least for me. I also don't know how to activate the Nijiku or whatever, if you can do it in the demo version.

BTW, I hope you're not trying to complete the game with just your sword. Use your other weapons. I personally love the spear-thing. lol, I can't remember what it's called.

My God they should rename "Master Ninja mode" into Rape Mode.

They are relentless in that one.

But if you know some cool moves and Block ALOT you might get though.

The fighting is so fluid and exhilarating yet it's just so damn hard.  I was never big into fighting games, and I see that NG uses a fighting game-like combat system.  That's why I liked God of War and it's easily accessible combos, but this game has such satisfying combat that I'm willing to learn through the tradition of getting ripped a new one.

Actually, that's what I was trying to do the entire time!  I thought that if I get good with the sword, I would be able to use the other weapons much more easily.

Yeah it's normal (well, 100 tries is stretching it a bit!), but you'll get better over time. I would suggest not getting too technical to start with ie. don't try pulling off the charge combos and limit yourself to the simpler button variations. Try running up walls a lot and doing down-ward slams, followed quickly by a block then a roll once you've landed. This is probably the best way of dodging and attacking at once.

The weapons are different enough that getting good at one doesn't help with the others.

Nimpo? The magic stuff? In the Xbox version it's B + Y at once, so I gather it's similar on PS3.

Oh come on this is starting to kill me. I still have not played the god dammit game and I see all sorts of people talking about how the game is that difficult.

Is it more difficult then the DMC series? Hmmm more from this gen........ How about God Hand? Zone of Enders? Hell Shinobi for PS2(I could be here all day) is it harder then the dam Ninja Gaiden classics? If yes to the above, considering the difficulty provided by those types of games, taking into consideration the difficulty of games this gen.... Then....... Well....... Dammit!

its crazy hard man. but stick with it. i remember the first time i met that guy....he threw me all over the place, i thought it was impossible to beat him. but once i got passed him and progressed about 90% through the game, i tried ngb on my 360 to see if there was a graphical difference. i got to him in about 5 minutes and man i kicked another crack in his a$$. really handed it to him, dunno why i sucked so bad. but once you learn combos and stuff, hes no match, just like the other bad guys will be.

Well, what you have to keep in mind is that the game was originally made for Xbox owners, not the hordes of noobs that play on Sony consoles, so it's made to a higher standard.

If its anything like the original NJ....

, then remember to bock often to get to the boss with as muc health as possible. Roll around to avoid enemies that can break your block (I think the white ninjas can. Don't attack the boss directly. Don't try to be left blocking his attacks, he'll break your block. Try to beat him with wall combos.

I was like you also... now I find the game easy after all the practise. I beat the game more then 8 times. The first time I bought this game I had alot of trouble with tactics. You will figure all out when you beat the game and get better everytime. Its completely normal.

it's hard to get good at NGS because it's just the one stage.  the more stages you have to work with, the eaiser I think it is to get good.  teh problem you'll have is that the moves and combos aren't shown in the menus...which is why I took the time to make a list of all the moves.

Holla at these, TheOneMan.  Made it myself, complete with blurry pics from my HDTV. ;)

Dragon Sword/True Dragon Sword

The best weapon in the game in terms of overall balance. It's quick, powerful, and has the best combos once all levels are unlocked. It's also the only weapon that gets a bonus upgrade during the story. Never a bad choice.

Moves List
Normal
Crimson Slash: [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE]
Dragon Tear (Lvl 4): [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [TRIANGLE]
Tiger Roar: [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [TRIANGLE]
Fang of the Wolf (Lvl 2): [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [TRIANGLE], [TRIANGLE]
Blade of the Dragon's Tail (Lvl 3): [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [TRIANGLE], [TRIANGLE], [TRIANGLE]
Fiend's Bane Kick: [SQUARE], [SQUARE], Right, [SQUARE], [SQUARE]
Early Winter Rain: [SQUARE], [SQUARE], Right, [SQUARE], [TRIANGLE]
Blade of Nirrti (Lvl 2): [SQUARE], [TRIANGLE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE]
Izuna Drop (Throw/Scroll): [SQUARE], [TRIANGLE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [TRIANGLE]
Windmill Slash: Right, [SQUARE]
Blade of the Undefeatable: [TRIANGLE]
Haze Straight Slash: Hold [TRIANGLE]
Extinction Straight Slash: Hold [TRIANGLE] (Ultimate Technique)
Storm of the Heavenly Dragon (Lvl 4): Hold [TRIANGLE] (Ultimate Technique)
Azure Dragon: Right, [TRIANGLE]
Scarlet Dragon: Right, Hold [TRIANGLE]
Blade of the Twin Dragons (Lvl 4): Right, Hold [TRIANGLE], [TRIANGLE], [TRIANGLE]

Wall
Cicada Slash: While on Wall [SQUARE] or [TRIANGLE]
Flying Swallow (Lvl 2): While Wall Running [SQUARE] or [TRIANGLE]
Divine Cicada Slash: During Flying Bird Flip [SQUARE] or [TRIANGLE]

---------------------------------------

Lunar

The Lunar is a devastating weapon with longer combos than the sword but more strength then the nunchucks or the flails. The best reasons to keep this weapon handy are its charge attack and incredible range. Holding [TRIANGLE] will charge the staff twice and release Ryu's hurricane attack. Not only does this dole out huge amounts of damage, but even after one charge Ryu will benefit from a lengthy period of invincibility while in the hurricane.

Moves List
Normal
Raven Strike: [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE]
Dragon's Claw (Lvl 2): [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [TRIANGLE]
Raven Light: [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [TRIANGLE]

Lunar Explosion (Lvl 3): Right, [TRIANGLE], [TRIANGLE], [TRIANGLE]
Purgatory's Rivet: While Running, [SQUARE]
Twin Serpent Strike: While Running, [TRIANGLE]
Concealed Thrust (Scroll): While Blocking, [SQUARE] or [TRIANGLE]
Raven Stream (Lvl 3): Circle, [TRIANGLE]
Nirmanakaya: Ne[SQUARE]t to a downed enemy, [TRIANGLE]

While Jumping
Tempest: [SQUARE]
Izuna Drop (Scroll): [SQUARE], [TRIANGLE]
Phantom Moon: [TRIANGLE]
Guillotine Throw (Scroll): Near an Enemy [SQUARE]+[TRIANGLE]

Wall
Gibbous: During Flying Bird Flip [SQUARE] or [TRIANGLE]

--------------------------------------------------------

Dabilahro

The mighty sword is much mightier when fully upgraded. This is a better choice for a heavy attack than the War Hammer, plus it looks cool. This is one of the best items you can receive.

Moves List
Normal
Destroyer of Armies: [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE]
Whirling Empire Blade (Lvl 3): [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE]
Flaming Hell Slash (Lvl 3): [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [TRIANGLE]

Wall
Thunderous Blade: On Wall [SQUARE] or [TRIANGLE]
Raging Thunderous Blade: During Flying Bird Flip [SQUARE] or [TRIANGLE]

--------------------------------------------------------

Nunchaku

This non-upgradeable weapon is fast and cool to use, but isn't very practical. There is a far better weapon with similar (but more deadlY) properties. This one's for nostalgic purposes only.

Moves List
Normal
Dragon and Phoenix: [SQUARE],[SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [SQUARE]
Fire Pit: [SQUARE], [SQUARE], [TRIANGLE]
