I'm not interested in playing a milisecond of GTA V at all and it won't make me any bit sad. I gave up on the series and pretty much on urban-oriented crime games of this type. The last GTA I played was GTA IV and that was for 15 minutes at most. It's relevant to mention I played all GTA games since GTA 1 (bar London expansion), including Chinatown Wars on DS as well. The last GTA I properly played was San Andreas and that's where the series pretty much ended for me.
I don't think they're pinnacles of gaming in any respect. I also think they're incredibly stagnant and not progressing at all since GTA 3. I might even go as far as to say that I enjoyed top-down GTAs a lot more than 3D ones!!! GTA IV brought nothing to the table and I'm confident that neither did GTA V, even if it might be a considerable improvement over GTA IV, if nothing else - in the story department and the involvement of multiple characters. However, if GTA was structured like you have a story of some guys who experienced some tragedy caused by themselves in consecutive prologues - which forced them to flee to another location where their stories intertwine and they have to hide from the law (because of some horrible accident they caused, or even crimes deliberately committed) in a s-hole in South America for example, where they have to do some missions against the odds to even try to reedem themselves and escape from even bigger hell they've put themselves into, and despite not liking each other, they'd be forced to cooperate. And then the fate would've kicked them in the ass when they least expected it, despite their efforts, and as anti-heroes that wanted to gain a positive reception from players. That'd be cool.
Anyway, I look forward to Batman: Arkham Origins a lot more. Arkham games are sandboxes done right, and even in the moments when they become tad formulaic in their side-quests, they never go below certain level. On the other hand, I am sick and tired of endless fetch quests that treat you like a little child, intertwined with overly long cut-scenes in between.
