Yes, minimal lag is about it. Though, they do plan on fixing it. If you have good connection you should be fine. Buy the mic if you can(very nice for a cheap price).
Well it wouldn't hurt to get it now. I got my copy last week and have been doing fairly well with it although I know some people are experiencing worse. I think a patch is coming soon so you might as well.

Yeah a patch is due this week, so but i've had it since day 1, a bit of advice avoid the 32 player rooms, there pretty buggy
i bought it purely for it having a headset since i didnt own a ps3 headset, and was like what the hell atleast it comes with a game too. The game is bad, and there still isnt a patch out. bad hit detection numerous bugs, and well just an overall very unpolished game. I cant recommend this game to anyone unless its for the headset which is pretty good.
I'm loving it and like the other guy said atleast for now shy away from the 32 player rooms that is where the most issues arise. 16 player rooms run like a charm most of the time.
The hit detection is right on the money actually, and the gameplay is very fun and addictive. I was in the beta and was not going to get the full version when it was released until a buddy of mine talked me into it. And I'm glad I did get the released version and the beta is like night and day actually compared to each other. Once again though just stay away from the 32 player rooms for now, and nothing else you've got a great headset if you get the bundle. One more thing though, just don't think this is cod4, Socom is all about being tactical and communication. Some rounds you may have no kills but yet you called out 2 or 3 enemies that a teammate could kill and that feels just as good as actually getting the kill yourself:) If you can see that then Socom is up your alley.
If you care a lot about your stats and rank, then I would wait till the patch is released. If you're just looking for some fun then I say go and get a copy now.
It runs great. Day one purchase from me. It improves on everything over the first game. I can see it getting AAA easily. With that and Gears 2 November is looking like another good gaming month.
