in their lead. 55 million to 50 million. I think so. What are your thoughts?

Yeah and what were the release dates of each consoles again?blabbyboy
Yeah and who made the most profit this gen again?
Wait Sony lost everything they earned from PS1+PS2 gens combined. Ouch?
[QUOTE="ActicEdge"]
Its such an insignificant lead so I don't feel it really matters.

You do realize we are in a forum where a .5 difference in score is what separates a good game from the worst thing ever made? In SW it will be anarchy.
You make a valid point :P
That depends on if you really care, PS3 has still outsold the 360 in sales per year. I know in the corperate world IPM or IPY "Items per month or year" are more important than total units sold. On a retailers side anyways. Microsoft is probably giving themselves Hi-Fives for being higher overall, while Sony is giving themselves Hi-Fives for being faster selling overall.Jynxzor
Butut xbox is gaining. They are selling faster now.

I'm pretty sure that both Microsoft and Sony lost tons of money this gen and last gen, so that also doesn't make a big difference. Now, of course, comparing these two companies to Nintendo makes it a big deal and a completely different story.[QUOTE="aroxx_ab"]
360 has become the new Wii, all about casual motion control games. 360 loosing what they built up the first years imo :P

360 is champion of the hardcore and casuals now. It can be titled overall champion in my opinion.
It is definitely leaning towards the casuals at this point.

Wouldn't overall champion be the PC? It has pretty much the biggest casual market and a HUGE hardcore base and has been around years longer then any one console?

PS3 hit 50 million like 6 monthsagoThis is about as significant as comparing the number of original Xbox's sold to that of the number of Gamecube units sold. The gap between the two was so small, so it really doesn't matter. Now, if the gap was something like 20 million or more, I'd say otherwise.Mawy_Golomb
Plus they both lost out to the world beating PS2. Same here, Wii is in the lead and it doesn't matter who wins since they'll just be second place.
Yeah and what were the release dates of each consoles again?blabbyboySigh..... to be part of SW circa 2005, cows would have us believe that the PS3 would smash the 360 in a matter of months. Now fast forward to late in the generation, a head start (which, btw, is the PS3's FAULT, rather than it's DEFENSE) is what they would have us believe holds it back to merely being ON PAR. Unbelievable.

Sadly, it is. We can only hope that it won't deviate too much away from core gaming. Otherwise, I'm going to be really worried about M$'s next console.Microsoft had a whole extra year to sell the 360, take every 360 off the shelves for 2012 and let only the PS3 sell then get back to me.
The gap started at 9 million IIRC, went to less than 3 million and grew to 3 and a half. Based on that it'll catch up to 360 later when everyone is drooling into their laps over shiny new PS4/Xbox 3 tech demos and we stop giving a flying rats bottom.
That would hardly be a valid comparison. That first year of 360 sales saw most of the gaming public holding out investing in ANY system in order to see all of the options on offer, and the PS3 NOW has a much deeper library than the 360 did year one.Microsoft had a whole extra year to sell the 360, take every 360 off the shelves for 2012 and let only the PS3 sell then get back to me.

Wake me up when they close the gap they lost to the PS3 until then they are not selling faster, they may have picked up but Sony is still ahead of them.[QUOTE="specialzed"]

I think its safe to say that no matter what Sony does the ps3 will not have a triumpt this generation...It comes down to one simple fact they will be remembered for the guys that 2 generations dominated then the following took 5 years+ to catch up to second place.
There's no question, the PS brand has had by far the largest comeuppance. That said, it doesn't really detract from the fact that it's a great system that has given it's owners plenty of value.I think its safe to say that no matter what Sony does the ps3 will not have a triumpt this generation...It comes down to one simple fact they will be remembered for the guys that 2 generations dominated then the following took 5 years+ to catch up to second place.

No, Sony owns more game franchises than Microsoft. I guess if you want to count a lot of the casual Kinect games, then it might end up having more franchises in the future, but that's not really saying much when it's struggling to offer more core IPs,. other than Halo, Gears, and Forza. It might be hard for a lot of people in the next console gen to buy another Xbox console because of this, even if M$ triumphs over Sony by the end of its lifecycle.[QUOTE="WilliamRLBaker"]There's no question, the PS brand has had by far the largest comeuppance. Well, I don't know how owners that generally haven't been interested in the most emphasized M$ exclusives will care to buy another Xbox console again, especially those who were also owners of the PS3. Also, I'm hearing a lot of complaints not just from PS3 owners about the lack of good exclusives on the 360, but also from game industry veterans like Geoff Keighley, Jeff Gertsmann, and others. So, expect more hate towards Microsoft in the future. No, Sony owns more game franchises than Microsoft.
