you guys probably won't be getting an HD-DVD or a Blu-Ray player anytime soon? We're not counting the built-in blu-ray player in the PS3 because that's given and it shouldn't be the primary reason why you got a PS3. I'm talking about people who don't care that much for their movie experience. The majority of people who are quite satisfied with their regular old DVD player. Is there enough reason for you to go out and get an HD-DVD or blu-ray player? Am I the only one who thinks that it's just too soon for all this? Come on, porn in high-def does not look good, trust me. So, who is actually going to get one soon? Lets see how many people actually have a problem with their regular DVD.

Not me. HD-DVD is an expensive paperweight, and Blu-ray is the paperweight that the uppity rich-folk buy so they can look down on us regular joes with regular paperweights.

Is any of this getting through to you?

In terms of movies, I will most likely get an upscaling DVD player. So I can use my old movies on DVD and still have some decent HD video.

Yeah it is much too soon for another jump in media formats.... DVD has not been around that long, the general public is just not ready for another change in this area.

Bluray and HD-DVD is not worth it yet, most people don't have HDTVs yet. Until they become cheaper, don't expect people flocking to HD formats. When it happens, I have to rebuy my Happy Feet to get it to one of the formats ... hopefully HD-DVD if it wins. gnutux

I agree with you, movies look perfectly fine on the regular DVD9 format, hell, they still look good on DVD5s. The only reason people are getting blue ray players is either because its built into the PS3 they own or they want to show off their 50' 1080p HDTVs. I still can't find a reason to buy a HD-DVD be it Xbox 360 add on or regular HD-DVD player.

The only thing that will convince me to buy either of those formats will be when I can get an entire season of one of my favorite tv shows on one disc.Or maybe even all the seasons on one disc.

It will be a while before I get an HD-DVD or blu-ray player...if ever. I may end up skipping it all together when something better comes around (and it will) like digital distrabution.

I prefer Blu Ray. After watching Casino Royale and The Departed on Blu- Ray, I can't go back to DVDs.

My new computer will have an XHD monitor and HDDVD and BluRay support, so I'll probably buy HDDVD and Blu ray movies, but as for a standalone player, it'll probably be some time.

Once Blu-Ray players cost around 300 bucks, you better believe ppl are gonna go out and buy them because we should expect at least 50% of house holds owning an HDTV in about 2 years from now, so of course ppl are gonna want to take advantage of their tv.

I'm fine with DVD for now.

Blu-ray will be successful though judging by its sales atm, and the fact that it's outselling HD-DVD. When it drops in price in a few years time people will most likely jump on board, just like with DVD.

im sort of an HD enthusiast. so to me, i would like a Blu-Ray player...not a stand alone player, mind you. i would like the Ps3. but as of now i dont even have a 1080p HDTV right now so theres no need for me to even get one.

I'm fine with DVD, but then again, I'm not the kind of person that likes to watch movies (Probably due to the lack of a great TV and sound system) at home on the couch, I watch them in theaters or just pop in the DVD in my computer so I can watch while doing something else.

My Tv is 1080p and is 54 inch, dvds i watch on my dvd player still look fabulous and stunning, i dunt see the need for the blu ray or HD DVD, unless you want to see every blemish, pore, and wrinkles on the actor in movies >.>

I have a dvd at home, and in 2 of my computers which I rarely use. I do not care for blueray also but since it comes built-in to the ps3, sure, why not, I'll take it. But will I buy br, probably as much as I will buy dvd, lol. But for gaming, it is just the next step cause it offers space. They could have went with HD-DVD for the ps3 but I don't care cause all I care is knowing there is extra space for the developers to use in the games over the next several years.
