I dunno about being scared, but the facts are that the 360 has been out for roughly a year and a half and has sold a little short of 11 million. The Wii has been out just over 6 months and has sold about 7.5 mil.

But as of right now, you don't have many great Third Party games to look forward too. For every 1 great third party game you have around 8 crappy ones(not a real ratio just an exaggeration. Until good games come out for the Wii mine will just be collecting dust which makes me question why I bought it anyway.

So let me get this straight. In a thread where MS is talking about sales, we shouldn't bring up anything about sales? How does that logic work?

Scared? Perhaps. Truth be told, they face a difficult challenge with that. Xbox is known for "Halo" and shooters alike. The name of the system itself does not come off friendly or easy like "Wii" does. "Xbox" almost itselfs sounds exclusive to people, and bares a name that almost suggest a adult like status. It'd be nice to see how they can change their image.

I'm not gonna try and build up a case for the Wii's 3rd Party support because, with a few exceptions, I'm primarily interested in what Nintendo themselves put out. People have different tastes, but I've personally enjoyed Nintendo's games over the past 20 years more so than anyone else's. As far as the current Wii lineup, c'mon pal it's only been 6 months. How long did Kameo & Perfect Dark Zero have to tide you over for?

Also, I'm not trying to say the Wii is the ultimate console or anything. I happen to like the 360 a lot too (mainly for their 3rd party games). The way I see it, if you've only got $600, you could either buy a poorly selling system that developers are abandoning, or you could get one with nearly tantamount graphic capabilities & game libraries along with a fun, new, & innovative console that has oodles of classic franchises.

The thing is, due to the massive sales rates of the Wii, the System has garnered much announcements and supports from many companies.

However, in the end of all things, MS, Sony, Nintendo and the developers care about the green. MS want's to have their system in "a billion customers" homes. However, with Wii eating up the pie of marketshare faster than MS can, MS has no choice to retaliate. Hell at least MS is doing so, Sony seems to just sit idly by.

I wouldn't say scared, rather they are just reading the cards on the table. They realize at this point that Nintendo is doing something right, and of course want to emulate that. It's funny, because before the PS3 and Wii launched, Sony went out of it's way to say how Nintendo wasn't their competition, and that they weren't worried about Nintendo. MS did as well, but not nearly as loudly. Sony even went so far as to say the Wii was a non-issue and that even the 360 was no worry to them.

Sony should just back out while they can.  The PS3 sucks hard.  I own a Wii, and I have to say, I really enjoy it, yeah so it cant put out graphics like the other two can, but in a recent research finding, the graphic capabilities are pretty close to what the 360 can put out,  if only publishers would spend some effort in the games.  The Wii rocks, 360 ok, PS3 sucks, end of story

I would really like a link to those findings. Until then I'm just going to laugh about someone thinking the Wii is similar to the 360 in graphics capabilities.

It's not that Sony is doing nothing it's just that they (sony) have put themselves in such a messed up spot that they really can't do much to stop the momentum that Wii is having and if X360 continues to have good software sales it going to be hard to pick up 3rd party exclusives. Sony's mistake is they didn't take their competitors seriously and it shows.

No, I don't think they are scared at all. They both are going after different type of gamers and it won't be surprising to see many gamers have the Wii & 360 as they are completely different type of systems. Even if the Wii passes the 360 in console sales, I don't think it'll hurt them much. I'm sure some Wii owners will pick up a 360 once the price gets to $300 or less for the premium. I already have both and am very happy with each system. I have nothing but praise for Nintendo and the direction they are heading. I own just about ALL the Nintendo game systems including the original NES & green screen GameBoy.

They'd be fools to be scared, because fear gets you nowhere.  However, they do see it as a worthy contender, and respect the impact it could have on the market.

That's generally how it works.  The Wii might have a slightly higher Ratio, because of the new way to play, and the unpreparedness of devs, but ultimately, the majority of 3rd party games are mediocre or down-right bad.

No one is scared and no one is stupid. Wii is doing great right now, but they still need to deliver the software, which the 360 already has in loads. The 360 is selling a lot of software and 3rd party developers and M$ is seeing this. This make more developers want to program for the 360. Same can be said for the Wii. Developers are seeing Wii console sales skyrocket and are jumping on the band wagon to make more games. The only problem is we'll have to wait a year or so for many of those Wii games, because many developers decided to wait and see how the Wii sold before developing for it. A lot of developers are just starting from scratch to make new games for the Wii. By this time next year we should see a lot more Wii games though.

Yeah I kind of think they are. Considering they are already scared of losing in sales because they are starting to make more kid friendly games. It says so right here.

Because the PS3 is the x360's direct competition. HD graphics, online play, etc.

It's just my opinion. I don't think Moore would've said that people would buy the x360 & Wii instead of a PS3 if he/MS thought the Wii was the x360's direct competitor.

Honestly, it would take a LOT to get Microsoft out of the shooter-box image, just like it was damn near impossible to get Nintendo out of the kiddie image with the gamecube.

Halo 3, Mass Effect, and Bioshock aren't going to be helpling much, either.

once the fad dies down the market will even out for people who want sports games.  e.g.  anyone who thinks footy games will work on wii (that aren't based on unrealistic looking european stereotypes some racist japanese man made) will be unpleasently surprised.  There is a limited amount of genres out there that the wii can handle so ninty needs to move into newer territory in order to follow this innovation lark through.  IMPO.

I don't see how the Wii can only handle "a limited amount of genres". Even assuming that motion sensing controls are just a silly passing fad Nintendo capitalized on, the Wii remote retains all the functions of a standard video game controller. Your left thumb manipulates a thumbstick and your left index finger has access to two shoulder buttons (the nunchaku). Your right hand has access to a shoulder button and a variety of face buttons (the Wii remote itself). The motion sensing controls only enhance gameplay, not pidgeon-hole it.

sorry i didn't expand on that point very well, what i meant to say was "the genres which we are used to now", i didn't mean the wii can't handle a lot of genres, only that FPSs, soccer, racing basically your typical system sellers in the other two consoles case's.  I would saygames like Warioware have already expanded into this new genre making use of the innovation and making best use of the technology.

Both them and Sony because if Nintendo drop the price of the console then games like Mario Galaxy or Smash Bros Brawl coming out then they will struggle to compete with the Wii.

I dunno about being scared, but the facts are that the 360 has been out for roughly a year and a half and has sold a little short of 11 million. The Wii has been out just over 6 months and has sold about 7.5 mil.

Hater3000

Seriously you guys need some new ammo besides sales.

First i must say that sig of yours pwn,I really need Forza 2.

Second well what other argument can they use besides sales?.

Upcoming games,only SSBB.

Current games,nah

Graphics,Lol

I'm not bashing the wii is just that other than sells there isn't too much to say about it...for the moment.

And I'm saying that as future wii owner.

Yeah you are.  Anyone who makes a post as utterly stupid as the one I just quoted (i.e., yours) is doing so only to bash the system.

once the fad dies down the market will even out for people who want sports games.  e.g.  anyone who thinks footy games will work on wii (that aren't based on unrealistic looking european stereotypes some racist japanese man made) will be unpleasently surprised.  There is a limited amount of genres out there that the wii can handle so ninty needs to move into newer territory in order to follow this innovation lark through.  IMPO.hongkingkong

How long is it going to be untill people stop calling the Wii a Fad....I thought it was a fad for awhile too but a fad does not last this long

I don't see how the Wii can only handle "a limited amount of genres". Even assuming that motion sensing controls are just a silly passing fad that Nintendo capitalized on, the Wii remote retains all the functions of a standard video game controller.

Nintendo has already proved itself to be good for the racing genre, and as for FPS, MP3 will set the precedent, and I have yet to hear anything but good news about the controls.  There is no genre that can't be done by the Wii, people just need to think of a way to do it.

Racing games on wii i'm sure it hasn't proved itsef worthy. Yet another Mario Kart? I wouldn't mind. FPS games just don't feel right, its harder to aim with the wiimote than the analogue, plus the graphics aren't good enough for the immersive experience !!!IMO!!! i must stress this is just my opinion it is not fact (yet :P)

Your free with your opinion on racers, but I must interject about shooters.  It's true that there has yet to be a really solid shooter on the Wii.  However, I believe that that will change when Metroid Prime 3: Corruption comes out.  I have heard nothing but good things about the controls, and once a certain control scheme is shown to be succesful, it can be safe to assume that the majority of devs will follow.

I think once they work out how to use the full potential of the controller it will be great to see the games getting good.

Games don't HAVE to use motion sensing. Just look at Pokemon. No motion sensing, with the exception of
picking a move. The Wiimote + Nunchuck = Just as good as a normal controller, though uncomfortable to
hold.

I never understand why people compare things like that...

People say "it's easier with standard controlers", but...so what? Is that a problem? It's not like your playing against people with standard controllers. In Redsteel, it's harder to hit enemies because, of course, your hand moves all the time...but that's just more realistic, and that just adds difficulty to the game.

People complain that games are too easy. If you want games with easier controls, then they should make a controller with the 'WIN' button, and all you do is push it and win...that's much easier than standard controlls.

Well you would be right. If you weren't looking at the bigger picture: The reason Microsoft entered the console gaming market.

Yes its a billion dollar market, but more importantly Microsoft was threatened by Playstation, and Sony's in roads on the until then dominant PC market. Sony promised to deliver a PC like experience on the cheap, and MS couldn't let that go unchallenged.

The Wii, is not threatening to the PC market. Never will it be. It just doesn't have the horse power. That leaves the high end market to Microsoft. They can sell Windows OS and Microsoft 360 at virtually pure profit.

Until they release the next Xbox. PS3 is their major threat, but they're drowning in their own bathtub right now.

Yep this is all true. The only threat that Nintendo poses is that they may show some smaller companies that the big boys can be beat.
