Olivier Van Wynendaele, Deputy General manager of HD DVD at Toshiba, calls the Blu-ray claims "propaganda" and disputes the Blu-ray points. For instance, the new 3:1 sales figure being touted by the Blu-ray Disc Association in regards to Blu-ray to HD DVD sales is claimed by Wynendaele to be artificially inflated by free Blu-ray movie vouchers being redeemed by PlayStation 3 owners. He also notes that Toshiba has sold 200,000 HD DVD players in the US, in comparison to the 30,000 standalone Blu-ray players sold, and that it's not clear yet how many Blu-ray movies the two million PS3 owners are going to be watching.

Link or its not true. And besides, buying and HD-DVD add-on means you intend to watch movies on it. The same could not be said for the PS3. I for one refuse to pay $35 for 90 minutes of entertainment.Â

Compared to HD-DvD releases that really does look crappy, There isn't that many quality movies only for Blu Ray.
I'm thinking it's going to die in early 2008, and mostly due to poor PS3 sales.
I think Sony was really counting on the PS3 to propel Blu-Ray sales, and weren't really concentrating on the stand-alone player -- a monopolistic move that will cost them. Vendors had been complaining about "getting help" from Sony and that they seemed pre-occupied with the PS3 in 2006. I think Sony will try to reverse that, but HD is already in full sprint on the stand-alone player market with a coop of businesses and its going to be hard for Sony to catch up.
I think, too, that BR is going to be hurt by being associated with the PS3. Even non-gamers have heard that the PS3 is sort of a technology boat anchor, will associate BR with the PS3, and somehow think the BR must be bad (and not the fact that the PS3's price was merely inflated by the BR).

The movie studios could care less what hardware is being sold. What they do know is that Bluray software is outpacing HD-DVD and pretty much every analyst agrees. You're also going to have try much harder to paint me as a fanboy. I'm a home theater enthusiast first, gamer second. I spend more time at AVSforums than here. I own the 360 and the PS3. I purchased the Toshiba HD-DVD player last summer. The writing is simply on the wall. Toshiba is cutting costs to HD-DVD players, more players sold = format is sold... studios do care about hardware. If the ps3 stalls and standalone players aren't selling are studios still going to release as many titles for the format? No.. try harder next time.

ok using your logic

A causal movie goers will buy a HD/SD combo disk, giving them comfort that if HD-DVD does become the next-gen format they will be fine and will be enjoy that HD content.

A causal movie goers will buy a HD/SD combo disk, giving them comfort that if HD-DVD does become the next-gen format they will be fine and will be enjoy that HD content.
And i can find HD-DVD's at all the major retailers..
yeah, Casual movie goers will pay $10 extra for a movie.... and yes you can still find it...But their are already far less then Blue-Ray.... http://www.eurogamer.net/forum_thread_posts.php?thread_id=77532[QUOTE="-DarthVader-"][QUOTE="cobrax25"] what future proofing? interesting infoOlivier Van Wynendaele, Deputy General manager of HD DVD at Toshiba, calls the Blu-ray claims "propaganda" and disputes the Blu-ray points.
Hd-dvd > blu-ray
PS3 dies so will blu-ray
