Super Metroid, a history lesson. :)
Metroid Prime Advert - This game won GOTY at Gamespot.
Metroid Prime 3 - Trailer from E3.
I think it stands a chance. If it is as good as previous Metroid games and uses Wii controls well.

Not with Bioshock coming out. ;)
Bioshock is nearly as good a shoe-in for GOTY as Spore would have been now.

I think it's between Bioshock and Metroid Prime 3. Mass Effect also stands a chance.
I'd say it's got a shot.
And did Metroid Prime 2 win Game of the Year here?
norfair_dweller
Nope!!! Sadley the game was overshadowed by Halo 2, Half-Life 2, GTA:SA, and WoW!!!
It should be mingling among the games of the year with its head held high, however I fear the lack of multiplayer will bring the score down; especially so because the new controls are orientated towards a more action-packed experience than its predecessors. I think it will be a case of reviews stating what they want rather than reviewing the game on its own merits.

Agreed, I like Prime: Hunters but the single player is just not there, not to mention that it was short and easy!!! I was disappointed with the boss fight and the only challenge was the final boss in the game, although I did enjoy multiplayer a lot and the different characters!!!
[QUOTE="norfair_dweller"]Who the hell voted multiplayer will hurt the game's chances?MrAranI voted only for nomination just in case MP3 becomes anything like MP2.
Ah, I meant to say "no multiplayer". And I think you may have misread the poll, because I believe it meant "If Metroid Prime 3 doesn't have multiplayer, it doesn't stand a chance."

In the case of Prime 2 the controls were woefully unsuited to the conventions of multiplayer FPS whereas the Wii controls are extremely responsive, and therefore a much better fit. MP3 seems to have more of the traits of a conventional FPS which will probably highlight the lack of multiplayer, not to mention online. I also believe that reviewers will demand both an accomplished single and multiplayer from MP3 because it is on a home console and thus, in their minds, must contain a slew of features to be worthy of GOTY. Hunters was treated exceptionally because it was a handheld game.

That was me, for reasons explained above.
Oh definately, I think in the build up to it, it's been a little under rated, considering the rave previews, what Metroid Prime 1 & 2 did, and how this is a significant ramp up from the previous two as well. If the controls are nailed on the head (which the previews so far state they are) then it will make FPS on the console seem more shallow in their controls (although I know this is a FPA) and this being the more definitive scheme.
It's tough this year, especially with the ground Bioshock is shaking, but if a Nintendo title is going to take it, this is one of two of them.
It will be a superb game but there are far too many more innovative, bigger budget titles coming this year to make any sort of judgement just yet. Mass Effect and BioShock are excellent examples of GOTY material, not to mention Crysis, Call of Duty 4, Assassins Creed and Hellgate: London. Then again though, there is the saying "it may not have the biggest budget, but it does have the biggest heart".

The gameplay s tyle is still very much the same; it's not a complete first-person shooter. It still has the lock-ons, which basically ruined the entire experience since you couldn't aim freely.
not with Mass Effect, Bioshock and Rachet and Clank coming out.Heil68
I'll give you Bioshock and Mass Effect....but the footage of R&C was un-impressive IMO.

SMG has a better chance than R&C.
damn straight. With the space theme, gravity, and clever level design...the game just felt more fresh. In the R&C demo your exploring metropolis....again! And there was barely any platforming aside from that really short bridge section.[QUOTE="Homesrfan"][QUOTE="Shinobishyguy"][QUOTE="Heil68"]not with Mass Effect, Bioshock and Rachet and Clank coming out.Shinobishyguy
