I got to try the demo for MGS4 recently, and granted I didn't have much hands on time but the first thing that struck me was it looked and controlled in a really dated way. I also notice that no one talks about it much. Is it one of those games that seemed amazing when it came out but time went by and and it's lost its charm? Just wondering, not that it's very expensive now, but I was thinking of getting it but I want to make sure it still holds up.

Trolling? It's still practically unrivaled in it's "Next Gen" Feel. If MGS4 is dated so is every other game out.

it is still an amazing game with an amazing story that looks great. A demo really wouldn't do it just especially seeing as how the probably cut back for the demo. You should really pick it up, it is $30, and well if you have a ps3, I feel like it would be a crime to not play such a great game. And the controls you will find work well for the gameplay style.

Of course it's dated.

2 years = 1,000,000 in terms of technological advances.

I don't know. I know it's not very good though. The worst MGS game i've played (To be fair, after MGS3, a lot of games feel bad)

A lot of critics disagree, so whatever.

I'm willing to give it another try. I think it's a combination of having not played any Metal Gear games besides the first two NES ones and all the overwhelming hype and perfect ten reviews that gave me unreasonable expectations.

That game has some of the most memorable scenes in video game history. And while I do agree that the graphics are a bit overrated, Shadow Moses looked absolutely stellar. It was really ahead of its time.

Very. The controls, especially stealth, felt dated when it originally released.

i actually like Act 1 more, gameplay wise, but i was amazed when i saw Shadow moses stage, not to mention when the music of MGS (ending theme) started to play ................. i was about to cry, no kidding.

i doubt that. the game really doesnt have anything to have you coming back for more. not even trophies. you'l spend more time trying to skip cutscenes then actually playing the game.

It never had great controls but on a technical level there's nothing on 360 that matches it yet so no. It's by far my favourite game this gen.

As for controls, there's no doubt MGS4 has that "next gen" feel. You've probably played too many FPS games if you can't get the handle of MGS4. One thing is for sure, Metal Gear Solid 4 boasts some of the best controls of any game this gen. In fact, it's very smooth.

I'm not big on FPS's, especially military FPS's. The stealth controls felt very dated. Conviction is how seamless and intuitive MGS needs to become.

Yes you do, we know you hate PS3 and you pretend that you dont because you like Uncharted and a few others. You have no credibility when it comes to PS3 games. And also back on topic this game is not dated. I suggest you go out and buy the full version. It goes for about 20$ now.

if you really want some trophies, why dun you try to get some emblems???? the game has so many secrets, items, pathes that i discoverd i did like 20%-30% of what i can possibly do in my first playthrough not to mention the harder difficulties

Okay, this is where I draw the line. You're always going to be against MGS and for SC, and me the other way.
I can with the purest of heart say that MGS4 offers the most seamless gameplay experience I've seen so far.

Yeah, it'd be odd if a game released nearly two years later didn't manage to achieve higher technical levels. But still, other than GeoW2, Xbox 360 still hasn't managed anything as good-looking as MGS4 two years ago.

uhm... yes MGS4 is my most replayed game this gen. tons of new weapons to customize, new emblems, the bandanna unlock, the optic camo unlock, new difficulties to unlock...

not to mention I just finished up another playthru of MGS4, and started a new one on the Boss Extreme... and if you look at my games list I have a pretty healthy collection, with lots of new releases...

Conviction looks to be more fluid than MGS, but of course thats not possible to tell sine its not out yet. Also historically, SC has always had better "stealth" than MGS but man it is soooo boring. Ive only played Pandora Tomorrow and the first Splinter Cell but they were both so linear and there was no differnt ways to handle objectives.

If you get it cheap, I wouldn't say that it isn't worth it, especially if you played and enjoyed the other games in the series. I was still dissapointed with it though, the very worst in the series for me. On the other hand, I would be lying if I said that I didn't enjoy it.

I thought the shooting in MGS4 was way better than UC2's shooting... And Conviction isn't out to April 13th (I think) so I doubt you have played it... Although I have it pre-ordered and can't wait to play it!

Do you get only one new emblem every time you beat the game? Cuz if you do I've played thru it 8 times... but I don't remember two of them lol. But I'm on 6th playthru that I remember now... Granted they are pretty spread out now, but I think it's a masterpiece of a game, and definitely not dated at this point in time.

[QUOTE="Revolution316"]i doubt that. the game really doesnt have anything to have you coming back for more. not even trophies. you'l spend more time trying to skip cutscenes then actually playing the game.

uhm... yes MGS4 is my most replayed game this gen. tons of new weapons to customize, new emblems, the bandanna unlock, the optic camo unlock, new difficulties to unlock...

not to mention I just finished up another playthru of MGS4, and started a new one on the Boss Extreme... and if you look at my games list I have a pretty healthy collection, with lots of new releases...

have you ever played the game?

im a big fan of the franchise, i played them all. i beat the game 4 and a half times. but i doubt someone beating it 10.

Hence the "look" part. An important keyword.

BioShockOwnz

game-play videos does not equal game play... the game play video's of too human looks awesome back in the day so I wouldnt put much stock into those.

Hence using the word "look".

i dont see your point now =/
