I have saved some money up recently and have been wanting a ps3 for quite some time. Even though it doesnt have as many games that appeal to me as the 360 or pc I still really want to play mgs4. Right now probably that would be the only game i'd get and then maybe pick up uncharted but I really am hyped about kz2 so thats another reason to get one. I also really want one for blu-ray but the main question is mgs4 really worth it?

I hear some people on here call it the best game they've ever played and others say its not that great. For the moment it would be the only reason I'm getting a ps3 until I build a library of other games and blu-ray movies. So in the end is it worth it?

If you played the previous ones and liked/loved them, then yes, it's pretty epic. if you never played the previous ones then, well...I guess the game can be confusing:P Overall a quality game I must say.

1 and 2 were amazing. i think 3 deserved the score it got and lots of people call it their favorite mgs but the gameplay was just terrible, it was just such a chore with the bad camera. subsitence was probably amazing though because everything else about the game rocked. how is the combat in 4?

If you're only buying a PS3 for MGS4 and KZ2, you might regret it, not because of those two games, but rather because it would be foolish to buy a console for two exclusives. Look at what else has been released, and what is coming up in the future. Just my opinion.

Yes, it is that good, maybe better, if you can sit through the 10 hours of cut scenes (Which tell an excellent story), you will enjoy it as much as everyone else. Its my GOTY.

If you're into the series you'll love it. If not you may get confused but I feel the gameplay if great. However, I loved Uncharted just a bit more myself.

MGS4 is the game of this generation :D. It set the bar anew with it's masterful mixture of gameplay, presentation, narrative, and fanboyism :P. To get the maximum experience you'll have to had played the other first though (the story could get confusing). Still, if not, you owe it to yourself to play this masterpiece.

I guess it's more focused on action and storytelling rather than stealth compared to the previous games. But the stealth is still there lol. idk how to explain...I suggest you watch some video reviews. Most of the reviews are spot on methinks.

I've never played mgs4 before, eventually i will when I get a ps3 (or ps4), but I just wanted to reply to the comment about mgs3 since I've played that one and the prior two installments. It may not have felt as epic as mgs2 initially did when it first made the jump to the ps2, but I believe it still was an excellent game. The story was engaging and much easier to follow than mgs2, which made it better in that regard. Its ending sequence was one of the best I've seen in video games. The gameplay was awesome, building off of the mechanics set up in mgs2 and introducing new features like cqc and the camouflage system. The boss fights were just as intense as ever, though admittedly, I used to avoid having to fight THE END.Summing all this together leads me to the conclusion that mgs3>mgs2, but mgs1>mgs3. Therefore mgs1>mgs3>mgs2. Of course all of this is merely just my 2 cents.

The combat is a definite high point for the game (and gaming in general). The best thing about it is the players available approach. You can sneak and kill no one, or go guns blazing. And the pacing is perfect (like the perfect roller coaster) with high-action segments that seamlessly segue into calm/calculated segments. And the boss fights are some of the most awesome and creative ever. MGS and Zelda always has the best bosses :P.

You'll definitely get more games as time passes. After owning a system you somehow become more aware of the library and willing to play more. When the original XBOX launched, all I wanted it for was Halo. Then I ended up with a lot of great and awesome games :).

That's what's great about CoD4: the lasting appeal or value. Whatever you want to call it. It's doesn't mean that other games don't retain appeal or have value of their own, but MPs extend game time like no other factor.

yeah that's a better way putting it. :P I agree. It's just that the previous ones kinda forced you to use a stealth. You can pretty much do what you please in this game. More stealthy, more gunning or something in between. The tools for using stealth are there, it's up to you to use them...or not:P

also I like to mention that the weapon customization is really good. And the boss battles are just great.

The gameplay of MGS4 can be very satisfying. The enviorments in the first two acts, for example, offer a lot of options in terms of strategy. There are multile paths in the enviorments, and it all feels quite organic. You can make allies of the militia, or you can enemies to both sides that are fighting. You can either sneak through the battlefields, or wear a disguise and blend in, or just mix it up the whole time you move along.

If you care about unlocking special weapons, alternate costumes for Snake, or earning award emblems for certain criteria in playthroughs, then MGS4 has tons of replay value. It's loaded with easter eggs, dozens of weapons, etc.

SoL sucked I think. The worst MGS game in the series with drawn out cutscenes, over the top story, and very little gameplay. You could call MGS2 a movie without anybody disagreeing with you.

The best thing you can do before you settle to play this game is sort through all of the fanboy drooling and keep your expectations level.

If you have a PS3 and want a great game for the system that shows off it's capabilities, MGS4 is the game to start with. It is a worthy addition to any PS3 library.

If you enjoyed any of the previous MGS games then definitely get it. I'd even recommend it if you've never played a MGS game before.

Is it the best game this gen so far? That's debatable, but I will say as I've said many times in these boards, the presentation is unmatched. I still feel the story is pretty dumb comic book stuff, but they did a damn good job keeping me interested in finishing the game.

The controls and camera are the best the series ever had and there are a lot of really cool extras. It's worth getting, but don't expect the holy grail.

It's an incredible game and online is fairly well done. Is it 10 worthy? No, not IMO. Definitely like a 9.5 though. Enjoyed it as much as i enjoyed MGS1 on the Playstation and that's saying alot.

Cows will say Yes

As an owner of both systems, it's a great game, that deserves to be played. But I don't think it's the Messiah of gaming that fanboys will lead you to believe.

Good enough to buy two PS3's. ^_^ It is a reason to buy a PS3 over anything else though. Also if you played through the series you would have to be insane to skip 4 or delaying yourself from getting it sooner. The game is loaded with nostalgia. It may have the easiest final boss fight ever, but imo it is the most epic one to date and you would probably play the fight multiple times.

It's the best console exclusive out there. It's a must buy but should not be the only reason you purchase a PS3.

Here is my honest honest and unbiased Appraisal of Metal Gear Solid 4.

The Graphics are absolutely phenominal and the gameplay is pretty good. The storyline, characters and settings however, are highly unrealistic and so convolted and confusing you'll be left dumbfounded. Not only are the situations and cinematics presented to you highly improbable (No surveilance cameras in Europe?) and far-fetched (I think back to Raiden Killing Metal Gear Gekkos by breakdancing and the over-choreographed "matrixy" fight with Vamp) but the fact that pretty much ALL of the characters from the previous Metal Gear Solid games make an appearance in one way or another is so unlikely that it feels like more of a fan service than a believable story. Once again, the villains all have supernatural powers and don't make any sense, and at least half of the main villains are super sexy psycho-babes with ridiculous armor costumes who are feel like they're there for Eye candy alone. I'd just like for once to have Kojima make a game that not every female is a gorgeous babe with overabundant clevage and/or a vast knowledge of scientific data. As expected, this game is no where near as revlutionary or original as the Original Metal Gear Solid on the original Playstation, and it only really excells in visual prowess. Everything else about the game reeks of sexuality, implausibility, and complete nonsense typical of anime-esque storytelling.

In the end, I say it's worth a play through, but it is no where near the best game on the PS3 if you ask me, and it certainly doesn't deseverve a perfect score of 10. Surely some of you are into these sorts of games that defy common logic and reality, but I just don't buy it. I'd give it maybe a 7.

Gameplay wise it is very solid but nothing extremely unique, but you have to look at the whole package. For me the gameplay, plus the graphics, the audio, the story, and finally the cinimatic approach to that game really is what gave that game its 10.
