Here is my honest honest and unbiased Appraisal of Metal Gear Solid 4.
The Graphics are absolutely phenominal and the gameplay is pretty good. The storyline, characters and settings however, are highly unrealistic and so convolted and confusing you'll be left dumbfounded. Not only are the situations and cinematics presented to you highly improbable (No surveilance cameras in Europe?) and far-fetched (I think back to Raiden Killing Metal Gear Gekkos by breakdancing and the over-choreographed "matrixy" fight with Vamp) but the fact that pretty much ALL of the characters from the previous Metal Gear Solid games make an appearance in one way or another is so unlikely that it feels like more of a fan service than a believable story. Once again, the villains all have supernatural powers and don't make any sense, and at least half of the main villains are super sexy psycho-babes with ridiculous armor costumes who are feel like they're there for Eye candy alone. I'd just like for once to have Kojima make a game that not every female is a gorgeous babe with overabundant clevage and/or a vast knowledge of scientific data. As expected, this game is no where near as revlutionary or original as the Original Metal Gear Solid on the original Playstation, and it only really excells in visual prowess. Everything else about the game reeks of sexuality, implausibility, and complete nonsense typical of anime-esque storytelling.
In the end, I say it's worth a play through, but it is no where near the best game on the PS3 if you ask me, and it certainly doesn't deseverve a perfect score of 10. Surely some of you are into these sorts of games that defy common logic and reality, but I just don't buy it. I'd give it maybe a 7.
