This is my TV (pic below). I've owned it for a couple years now and it has a great image. It was top of the line when it was released. It has a game mode that tremendously cuts down on latency. I absolutely love it and don't want to replace it if I don't have to but I know the new consoles are running games at 120FPS. My TV can supposedly kick out 240hz and I actually had to change the settings so I could enjoy shows at a refresh rate I'm used to but is this good enough for playing PS5 or XSX games on?

Its a native 120Hz panel BUT it doesn't have HDMI 2.1... So its not next generation ready.

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/mu8500

In fact it won't even let you do 1080p at 120Hz.

Its 120Hz is borderline just used for BFI for image smoothing in sports and so on.

Looks like you're locked to 1080/1440/4K at 60hz. Still a decent TV to at least start next-gen with.

I bet most (AAA) 120Hz titles won't be hitting 4k anytime soon (if ever) , you should be fine. I'll be doing 1440p 120Hz once I get that bloody PS5 AND once it supports 1440p.

@louixiii: Unless you have a OLED 2.1 HDMI TV, no your not next generation ready.

To my know only C9, CX are the only true TV’s ready for next generation.

It's good enough for 4K 60fps which really should be fine for anyone. If you're happy with the image quality you'll be happy with the performance too unless you're into competitive gaming and need mad FPS or something.

Neither of the consoles will be running any of the games at 120hz, certainly not at 4K resolution. As long as you're good playing games at 30fps, your TV wil be fine.

It's a decent TV, but it will not take advantage of all the next-gen features that HDMI 2.1 offers. If you are looking to buy a new TV, now is the time. Last year's LG B9 and C9 OLED can be bought for fairly cheap during Black Friday sales. Amazing TVs and every single HDMI port is 2.1 unlike other manufacturers who cheap out with just a single 2.1 port.

These consoles will abandon 120fps within the next year or two. There’s already straight 30fps games... Pick a TV with good HDR and as big as you can afford. Don’t worry about 120fps. Hell, y’all had 60fps TVs and played 30fps all last gen and were fine with it. Don’t let the marketing buzz make you buy a new tv too.

Very, very true. The TV group I'm in on Facebook has members that think that a TV without HDMI 2.1 will struggle with these new consoles. Struggle how, didn't got an answer to that lol.

@girlusocrazy:

Its not a PC your plugging it into where you can chose resolution and frequencies not to mention the option of using lower chroma sub sampling.

Its a console, if its been developed only to accept a 120Hz signal through HDMI 2.1 then anything you plug into it that is HDMI 2.0 regardless of native frequency of the TV it won't give you the option of 120Hz at 4K.

A lot of people using 1440P monitors on Youtube that support 144Hz are being pushed to 1080/120Hz... With no option to do 1440p or to lower the chroma setting.

So his TV MIGHT give him 120Hz option at 1080p, but again many people are having problems even getting 120Hz to run full stop on HDMI 2.0 monitors/TV's with the PS5/XSX.

A display is a display, I gamed on a 720p 32" TV through out the whole X360/PS3 era of console that didn't even have 60Hz it was a 50Hz panel.

Your just not getting all the benefits of a next generation console.

Having a TV with full array local dimming like a QLED or a OLED TV and running PS5/XSX games with HDR at 600+nits... That to me is the selling point.

60FPS is all that matters when it comes to using a controller, I have gamed at 1440/120Hz for 2 years now on TV's with my PC and using a controller?... Hard to tell the difference.

60 - 30FPS in night and day.

The main selling point of these high end TV's is just the pure image quality and the ability to do TRUE HDR, not edge lit at 400-500 nits.

@Grey_Eyed_Elf: Yup, I rather have my flagship 2018 Qled than just get the cheapest set that supports HDMI 2.1, like it's going to make a noticeable difference with these new consoles anyways.

I go console mode with my pc all the time. It can only do 1080p @120hz everything higher 1440/2160p @60hz its a 4 year old Sony. I still love it to death. And when i get a new card ill still be doing 1080p because of RT. Make sure your TV has NATIVE 120HZ AND AN INPUT THAT ACCEPTS 120HZ. Both of those are necessary.

Not really. It's a cheap budget TV with no HDMI2.1 inputs. Even high end TVs (including the best TV on the market, the Panasonic HZ2000) don't always include HDMI 2.1
