The best quality of Nintendo is that they do not really do DLC.

With Nintendo taking its first step into HD gaming, some of my least favorite things from last gen were bound to creeep into their new console. One of my least favorite things about last gen was the DLC. A lot of it seemed rediculous and unnecessary. Who wants to pay $5 for a chraracter skin or a few new maps? (Some DLC wasnt bad)

Anyways, with one of Nintendo's first really big attempts at DLC, they came out of the gate strong. We are getting New Super Luigi U. This DLC is going to have 80 new levels... 80!!! It's gonna seem like a whole new game.

So what do you say System Wars? Is this the "right" way to do DLC, which is normally seen a huge rip off?

Thats how it has been, but now their online structure supports it and it looks like they are going to support their games with it.

Sounds like a big expansion, ala Bethesda, Rockstar, Bioware etc. Sounds good.

I think its a step in the right direction. We need to remember that Nintendo's understanding of the internet has barely reached 2001. They still have 12 more years to go :P

They are doing it right. They are doing it as "added value". It's a shame that the real reason 3rd parties aren't supporting them is for this very reason.

3rd parties aren't putting their games on WiiU because Nintendo seems to have some decent DLC?

No, because Nintendo doesn't support the current consumer raping model.

NSMB 2 DLC levels are well made and all but way overpriced. I only recommend the golden mushroom packs and possibly the challenge packs for skilled players who are looking for brutal levels.

Price will determine the value, but I'm willing to pay alot for this one.

Nah it will at least be $20.

They charged $15 for Harmoknight and Pokedex 3D.

I'm thinking $30 actually. I'd pay that even though $20 is the sweet spot. We are talking about 80 levels here.

Putting aside the system tied aspect of digital Nintendo content, my only major complaint so far is they like to overprice. The maps on Fire Emblem should be half as much. The content itself seems meaty, and completely optional to an otherwise complete game. I would say they do it right.

Nintendo takes add-ons like New Super Mario U and charges people full price for them. Most of their games should be considered add-ons. Look at Mario Baseball or Mario Strikers. That would be another mode in a bigger game if Sony or Microsoft or 3rd party made it. But Nintendo charges it as a full price game.

Also Zelda Windwaker HD? I bet it will be full price. Meanwhile Sony goves you 3 Ratchet's, 3 Sly, Several GOW's, 3 Jaks.......for a discount price.

Sheep are stupid. Period.

WindWaker HD isn't just an uprez of an old game like the games you mentioned. They are rebuilding it and putting more time and effort into the game. So Little Big Planet Racing is another mode for Little Big Planet?

Im really hoping they make user accounts soon. That seems to be a must now. In the direct it seemed like you can copy your stuff to a flash drive and transfer it to another system, so thats not to bad.

The dodgy EA stuff is fine, it's EA's responsibility legaly and so on.

But Nintendo doesn't allow Farmville level of cons on their systems.

I disagree. Nintendo has been in the business for a very long time--they've done a remarkable job at protecting the branding. Fact of the matter is that while Nintendo is for everyone, a large portion of the audience are younger kids. Nintendo keeps things simple here. You buy the game, you get the game--a complete game, no nonsense. Adding in things like, "cannot play this game mode--requires X dlc content/requires X dlc to play" ultimately confuses a portion of the user base, because it is being funded by an outside party; a parent buying for their child. I don't see Nintendo risking their branding here. The current dlc method will eventually hurt the industry--it's a quick buck method, and it's unhealthy once gamers realize they are getting shafted.

This is a full expansion pack. I would say $30 is the upper limit on what should be acceptable, based upon the price of expansion packs to PC games.

They call it DLC but they are so far expansions and additional things that you did not miss originally at all. That is probably the only good way to do DLC.
It also makes them the only gaming company (I think?) to do DLC right.

I like the method a lot of PC-centric developers take with DLC. They release it for free, periodically, to maintain interest in their game over a long time, and this also attracts a lot of new players over a longer period of time as well.

Not crazy about the pricing of the maps in FE Awakening. But the DLC maps don't have anything to do with the main story either so whatever I could live with missing out on most probably.

I like the method a lot of PC-centric developers take with DLC. They release it for free, periodically, to maintain interest in their game over a long time, and this also attracts a lot of new players over a longer period of time as well.

Free???

TF2 has had free DLC for over 5 years and counting. Maps, weapons, gamemods ect.

And  dont forget all those free mods, tons and tons of freee content! Meanwhile Black ops 2 full priced retail AAA game gets microtransactions along with small map packs that charges the price of full retail pc game.

The only way to do it "right" is to make it free. Paid DLC is a plague on this industry and anyone who buys it is just begging to be ripped off.
