No. When we were in the middle of the ps2 era, were there any games on pc that looked like god of war III or uncharted 2?

I don't know. The best looking PC games I know of from the previous gen were: HL2, Doom 3, Far Cry, Battlefield 2, and perhaps Homeworld 2 or Pacific Fighters (flight sim). There may have been better-looking ones. But, these are games I own.
Do you think that PC gaming is a generation ahead then console gaming? The graphics from a 2007 game look better then any console game ever and PC games are looking better and better.
swguy123
PC gaming doesn't work like consoles gaming. There are no generations--pc hardware is not fixed.
The graphics from a 2007 game look better then any console game ever swguy123That same PC game looks better than pretty much ever PC game released afterward. It really doesn't prove much. I wouldn't say it's a generation ahead. Most pc games are built for and run well on consoles. The only advantage pc games have over the console counter parts is a higher resolution, provided the user actually has a machine that runs better than a console with a monitor that exceeds a 1080p output. I'm pretty sure those guys are the minority. Most PC gamers likely have machines less powerful than the Wii.

I know, but there are no pc games in the middle of the ps2 generation that looked better than the top console games now. Don't you guys find it funny that pc games evolve when consoles evolve?
huh?, why are you trying to compare 2004 based hardware based consoles with games made in 2009 vs a 1999 hardware based console with games from 2003?No. When we were in the middle of the ps2 era, were there any games on pc that looked like god of war III or uncharted 2?

Do you have a Steam ID, Xfire user name, or a Battle.net account? If you have never played PC then I suggest you say nothing. Its funny seeing console kids using nothing but little petty insults to argue.

lol, I've been playing games on PC for 15 years, consoles for over 20, doesn't mean I can't enjoy watching fanboys being ridiculous.PC gaming has been for the longest time ahead of console gaming. Especially when it comes to graphics/hardware wise.

They were easily 3x or more powerful than consoles back in 2006.
And that was for a single gpu. I am not even counting sli ones back then.
Now current gpus are easily over 12x more powerful than a console.
New gpus are already starting to arrive which will be even faster.
No. It may be more advanced, but not to that extent.mo0ksi
pcs can play games at over 100+ framers per second and resolutions extremely higher than 1080P. And they do that natively i should add! so yes they are at least a generation ahead than consoles
No absolutely not. 720p --> 1080p and 2 X AA --> 8 X AA is not a generation ahead...
PC is 3 years ahead, at best. Half a generation. (a breakthrough?)
Most console games struggle to reach 720p let alone normal AA at 2 times. They get some funky edge detection AA and 30 FPS. And btw the 250 cards today can easily play at 2560p for a console post.No absolutely not. 720p --> 1080p and 2 X AA --> 8 X AA is not a generation ahead...

um you do realize pcs play much much higher than 1080P right? probably if not even double 1920x1080. and they do this natively unlike consoles where only a select few games (about a dozen games) can barely handle 1080 natively. so again, yes pcs are a generation if not generations ahead of consoles.
The hardware definitely is. No questioning that. PC games, however, are not optimized for this advanced hardware, but rather the exact opposite.
The Radeon 5970 with 2-4GB GDDR5 and 3200 SPUs is definitely a generation ahead of the Xenos with 256MB GDDR3 and 48 SPUs, or the RSX with 256MB VRAM and 24 pixel pipes + 8 vertex pipes.
Let's say Epic or Naughty Dog decided to optimize for a 5970, 30fps @ 720p with a $60 million budget like KZ2 or GT5. The end image quality would be straight up photorealistic. Of course, most PC games are designed around the equivalent of a 8800GT, or less.
heres the thing, pc games arent designed for 720p, 30 fps (or less), little aa, and nearly nothing interactive on screen. There is a huge difference in a game like starcraft 2 and what consoles offer. Other examples include, stalker call of pripyat, the witcher (compare it to fable 2/3), or even something like aion whch would die on consoles (yes that is a big part of the present/future of gaming, mmos). The hardware definitely is. Then thats know where near a generation. The PS3 is said to be 30x more powerful then the PS2 so we have a ways to go.

Most pc games period . Why did it win best graphic awards in 2009 everywhere? You guys act like pc games come out every month that look better and thats simply not true.
I guess it depends when next gen starts... and usually the first year or two of a new console isnt that impressive overall. No not even close , most multiplat games share many of the same assets and the next consoels will probaly be about 2 years ahead of anything thats out now. Ask yourself do you think current pc games will match next gen console titles? I dont think so .
TheSterls
I will maintain that the average next gen game will not look as good as modded crysis. its not an issue of computing power that the next gen consoles may have, but one of development costs, the predicted cost of making a good next gen engine is 10 times what it costs to make a current gen one, not all devs have those resources. No not even close , most multiplat games share many of the same assets and the next consoels will probaly be about 2 years ahead of anything thats out now. Not sure, It will go down with time but I think you will see new consoels come out in 2012. If its anything like the previous generations you will probalby get a few high end pc ports that were exclusive. So something like the Witcher 2 will probaly be on the level of a next gen console launch title.

When we get to the end, its bad news for consoles because we are all going to be getting computers anyway. Midrange laptops can get you gaming just fine in 2010, spend 300 extra and you have a beast. Maybe microsoft should standardize gamepads a bit more in windows, or even fight piracy even just a little...[QUOTE="TheSterls"]

The same reason why Metal Gear Solid 4 won the best technical graphics 2008 over Crysis Warhead. Uncharted 2 barely looks better then Gothic 4. It's only saving grace is it's artstyle.
Sorry but am I missing something here? I don't see anything special about Uncharted 2. Sounds like more hyperbole to me.

Yet MGS4 only won here on gamespot , It didnt when everywhere Uncharted 2 did and thats the diffrence. You are effectively saying every gaming website has some consipracy against the pc.
Second if you are arguing gothic 4 looks even close to Uncharted 2 there is really no reason to argue with you . Gothic has horrible animations terrible charcter models , the lighting is weak and the textures are worse as well its only strong point is scale. Have you even played UC2?

Hey, I totally agree.
However, there are only 10 PC games that really shine compared to console games. Sure that's ignoring the massive difference in resolution, texture quality, and shader quality.
A good example is a multiplat like DMC 4, that gets 180fps at max settings(8xAA, Super High) on a 5970, and only 5fps on a 4550 that's roughly the same power as what you'd see from the Xenos or RSX. That's 36-times the framerate. Consider the fact that it also has 66-times the amount of SPUs and 16-times the amount of VRAM as the Xenos. That's a generation difference.
I suppose this is what hermits refer to as "consolization". So if this console gen goes through 2013-14 like many people want it to, how big will the gap be in 2-3yrs? However, it will be up to modders to support these cards, since most devs just don't care to.

Yes? And the screenshots I just posted proves that Uncharted 2 doesn't "trounce" Gothic 4. From what I'm seeing Gothic 4 has it beat in everything except character models and artstyle. 3D backdrop >> 2D Jpeg backdrop.

Um your lying, Uncharted 2 doesnt use 2d jpeg drops you can actually see the aliasing on the mountains when you play the game . If you palyed it you should know this . The only area gothic 4 wins is scale and you can look up its overall graphical reviews and the pc version averages an 8 compared to uncharted 2 10s. You can bring in the standard arguments but even then when a pc multiplat looks superior it only scores half a point to a point higher.
