yes ive played the game pc version maxed on DX10 and no UC2 troucnes it from a visual perspective . Please answer the question have you played UC2? are we just looking at screenshots?

TheSterls

Yes? And the screenshots I just posted proves that Uncharted 2 doesn't "trounce" Gothic 4. From what I'm seeing Gothic 4 has it beat in everything except character models and artstyle. 3D backdrop >> 2D Jpeg backdrop.

Um your lying, Uncharted 2 doesnt use 2d Jpec drops you can actually see the aliasing on the mountains when you play the game . The only area gothic 4 wins is scale and you can look up its overall graphical reviews and the pc version averages an 8 compared to uncharted 2 10s. You can bring in the standard arguments but even then when a pc multiplat looks superior it only scores half a point to a point higher.

Ok, instead of using someone elses opinions, can you point out to me in those screenshots how Uncharted 2 "trounces" Gothic 4. I can't see it.

I already told you , the charcter models in Gothic 4 are horrible , the animations are bad , look at the textures on the rocks and the grass and you tell me it has better textures? Lighting cant really be seen by a screenshot but im curious you said you played the game and then said UC2 used 2d jpeg backrounds wich makes me question your creadablity if you acutally played it.

Sure it does...

That mountain range in the distance is just 2d alpha textures, like GT5p and FM3 use for distant mountains.

You're right about the mountains in the pic he used being 3D, but wrong about your statement, "Uc2 doesn't use 2d jpegs backdrops". Even in the SP helicopter chase segments it uses the same 2d panoramic backdrops. But I suppose in this case he was "more wrong" than you.

When you are on the train those mountains are not jpegs. Look behind you , you can see the alaising on them .

Uncharted 2 looks plain ugly to me anyway. It has no buisness being a so called "Graphics King" by anybody. Unreal Engine games look better.....

Foliage looks low-textured. It has way too many bright colors. At some points the design is like a last gen game.

The mountain range in the image I showed is a 2D panoramic backdrop. I'm 99% sure. You said Uc2 doesn't use 2d backdrops, when apparently it sometimes does. Nonetheless, it's the best looking console game, that's for sure.

I said in the SP the picture you posted is from the Co-op wich is Mp only. The mp is toned down visually in severla ways. I also think GOW3 looks better then UC2.

No. When we were in the middle of the ps2 era, were there any games on pc that looked like god of war III or uncharted 2?

04dcarraher

huh?, why are you trying to compare 2004 based hardware based consoles with games made in 2009 vs a 1999 hardware based console with games from 2003?

I am comparing two different generations which is what the original question asked. So everyone in this thread is telling me that console games next generation will look and perform the way pc games do this generation? This console generation is not over yet and there is still a couple years left to go. I am not sure if it makes you hermits sound cool or superior but don't believe the notion that you are playing in the "next gen" already.

Not really.

But there is some stuff that consoles will not be able to do with a certain quality of detail until next gen because of limitations in the hardware. PC could really be a gen ahead around past midway any console gen because of the hardware but software is what will make use of that hardware and it strangely happens. You would need to start discriminating to find a past gen PC game that looks like a next gen console game.

While console gamers are playing their "graphics kings" in levels the size of Arma 2s tutorial maps, PC gamers are playing games at higher graphical fidelity with 4x the scale.

I really need to find a freakin' awesome pic that goes "HOLY ****, YOU WENT THERE." It'd be perfect for this cause RDR looks like ass. That's because of it's scale though. Saying it looks better than a lot of PC games is just wrong. Unless of course you meant like pre-2005 or somewhere around there.

And if you're saying RDR looks better then Arma 2 then RDR must look better then GOW3, Killzone 2 and UC2 because Arma 2 owns them graphically.

I doubt you even own a gaming PC. UC2, GOW3 and RDR might be technical feats on the consoles, but a average PC wouldn't even break a sweat playing them, especially at 720p

Funny think is Uncharted 2 looks better then most pc games. Go figure.

TheSterls

PC games from 2006, sure.

Most pc games period . Why did it win best graphic awards in 2009 everywhere? You guys act like pc games come out every month that look better and thats simply not true.

The same reason MGS4 beat Crysis Warhead for best graphics. Do you honestly think MGS4 looks better than Warhead? Its a popularity contest more than anything. Lets say you have 6 editors at a gaming website, usually only 1 will be a PC gamer and the rest various console gamers. Now think how the voting will go.

Do you think that PC gaming is a generation ahead then console gaming? The graphics from a 2007 game look better then any console game ever and PC games are looking better and better.

graphics =/= gaming ;) the PC is only superior in 2 genres. the first person shooter, and real time strategy.

with 8 directions to move on a keyboard? versus 360 degree motion of a joystiq? consoles - fighting, action, platform, third person shooter, any third pesron game with 360 degree movement really. rpgs are debatable, because gameplay the style is different in alot of rpgs.

EDIT: adventure? really? I wouldn't want to play a simulator. I can do something in real life instead od simulating it. MMO's yes but I personally couldn't care less about them. okay that makes 3 genres.

PCs have joysticks.

Also some third person shooters control better on PC with the KB/M.

Like the new Lost Planet 2 for instance.

Why would it matter for a third person shooter? If done properly the animations won't look robotic because the character will just turn toward the input you put in anyway. The ability to move at 50 degrees to your current direction instead of 45 isn't a massive difference. I have yet to play any rpg that couldn't be done on a PC. Fighting games I will give you except oh wait, we can buy controllers for our PC's just like you can buy a keyboard for your PS3. There goes platformers too, action I don't understand since that's more of a blanket term for multiple genres. Yeah it really does do everything.

there is no controller on the pc that is worth buying. It's all crap. So keyboard / mouse is the only sensible solution. Do you use a gamepad with YOUR pc?

I'm still only giving it 3 genres and the price of high quality pc gaming is $900 +.

I'm still only giving it 3 genres and the price of high quality pc gaming is $900 +.

GFWL = 360 controller for windows with proper in game graphics for buttons instead of arbitrary numbers for game pad buttons

A 360 controller works normally, as intended, with no modding? I mean you just plug in this thing and go? And it works with every windows game? (please tell me because I will start saving up for my newegg rig if this is true) be honest.

graphics =/= gaming ;) the PC is only superior in 2 genres. the first person shooter, and real time strategy.

theuncharted34

WRPG, TPS, Adventure, Simulators, MMO, indie games

with 8 directions to move on a keyboard? versus 360 degree motion of a joystiq? consoles - fighting, action, platform, third person shooter, any third pesron game with 360 degree movement really. rpgs are debatable, because gameplay the ****is different in alot of rpgs.

EDIT: adventure? really? I wouldn't want to play a simulator. I can do something in real life instead od simulating it. MMO's yes but I personally couldn't care less about them. okay that makes 3 genres.

"There was a project that got killed at Microsoft. This project was designed to allow console gamers and PC gamers to interact and battle over a connected environment," Sood wrote on his personal blog. "I've heard from reliable sources that during the development they brought together the best console gamers to play mediocre PC gamers at the same game... and guess what happened? They pitted console gamers with their 'console' controller, against PC gamers with their keyboard and mouse."

The results shouldn't be too surprising.

"The console players got destroyed every time," Sood added. "So much so that it would be embarrassing to the XBOX team in general had Microsoft launched this initiative. Is this why the project was killed Who knows, but I'd love to hear from anyone involved --- what happened?"

What the hell are you talking about? :|

It works instantly with any GFWL. Also, Windows 7 (And vista but no one likes that :P) has built in drivers for the 360 pad, so any game that supports gamepads should auto-detect the controller.

I've used Vista for 2 years and it's great. :P

What is GFWL?

theuncharted34

It's Games For Windows Live.

Also you can download the xbox 360 gamepad software to use it with non-GFWL games.

I know someone who uses their PS3 controller to play Darksiders and someone who uses their 360 controller for it.

The hardware is easily more advanced, but don't get this pretentious attitude where all PC games are like gifts from god, thrown from cyborg heaven from the future and console games are inferior, unplayable, archaic games made by ancient Egyptians.

We truly don't know what we're saying is "ahead of its time" until we see exactly what it's up against in the future. None of us have a crystal ball.

Yet I've never seen anything so jaw-droppingly good. That's why Crysis is graphics king :P
