Do you think it will be one year? A few months? Will it do enough damage to stop Scorpio? Let me know your thoughts, SW. As I play FF15, it makes me think this is going to be huge.

Yep, it's a big deal. Lots of nostalgic JRPG fans are gonna eat it up.
Really depends on how SE handles the game, that episodic game release idea sounds like another bone head money making scheme that suits came up with that could blow up in their face and end up causing the game to bomb as a result.

You have a point. Well for their sake I hope they don't turn it into a cash grab. SE has been screwing up for years, this game and FFXV are their last hope for gaining any lost respect.

You should be correct here, but there is one serious flaw in your reasoning. You assume JRPG fans have standards or even shame.
Nope!
I'm on team Quadnight, they are going to eat this shit up and beg for more.
15 got me excited for 7 but I still need to go back to World of FInal Fantasy
Also yakuza games are coming out in america every half month starting january, nioh is coming, nier automata is coming, horizon zero dawn, resident evil 7, persona 5, etc etc
If 7 comes out next year, it better hope it doesn't come out against ni no kuni 2 or I'm getting that instead.
I think timed exclusives have more of an impact in perception that sales. Tomb Raider didnt make me want to buy an X1, especially because I knew I could just wait and play on PS4 later.
It depends on the quality of the game and the length of time. Personally I dont see any logic in porting it at all as it will obviously sell on PlayStation. But thats my view.
Depends on how long that timing and what plat forms it is coming to later. LOL at a need combat Scorpio.
$300 Destiny 2, Battlefront 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 Pro bundles next Fall will be all Sony needs knock the wind out of Scorpio. Price is king.

Is world of final fantasy any good? I'm a big FF fan (mainline games), do you think I'd like it? The initial impressions of the graphics didn't interest me.
Edit: I also loved Ni No Kuni
Well the Tomb Raider exclusive did nothing for Xbox and I would be surprised if FF7 will lead to Xbox owners ditching their machine for the PS4. It may influence new sales but most will wait like we did for Tomb Raider.
And that is a good thing. The companies should be creating good first party games to flog consoles not deprive gamers of games.
@jcrame10: I'm just confused about death stranding. I've watched both trailers and I'm still scratching my head going "WTF?" I have no idea what the game is trying to be.
As for the exclusivity, Konami pissed off Kojima so Kojima created his own studio and Sony signed up with him as his publisher. At least for death stranding.
Back on topic, FF7 on Playstation makes perfect sense. I'm a bit shocked it's not on PC day one as well considering FF7 was on PC. That said, I'm sure there are some X1 owners who played the original on PS1 back in the day that don't want to buy a PS4.
After the TR deal, I would have hoped that Square would have learned not to pull this crap as the deal alienated fans and cost them sales. I can imagine that the same could happen with FF7.
I say it sort of is.
Final Fantasy 7 is THE game that broke (J)RPGs into the Western market. Without it I doubt games like it would have ever been popular.
Though I think it would have been a major Big Deal if FF7 Remake wasn't going to be on Sony first.
Curious if time-exclusivity only amounts to Japan getting it on PS4 only first then everyone else gets it worldwide at the same time on all platforms. Also, with Nintendo Switch coming out, wondering if Square Enix will try to release the game there too. I think what helps Final Fantasy do such a bang up job is its focus on multiple platforms as well as doing uniform worldwide release. To have people from all ends of the gaming community simultaneously playing it, talking about it, and it being available to multiple platforms allowing others hearing the hype to jump on in and see what all the talk is about allows for more impactful releases. By contrast, I find staggered releases to be the worse off for the companies themselves, and their games, it just doesn't have that compounded word of mouth and such.
Curious too is how maybe the episodic design of the game and its episodic releases factor into time-exclusivity, like "play each episode one week early on PS4"?
Sales should be interesting too, because I tend to think there's some kind of effect when older series release new entries on new consoles, everybody rushes out for the game, then if they release a same console era sequel, like there's a huge falloff of enthusiasm for the franchise, generally, or so it seems to me. Wonder how this will play into that. Will this be one of those exceptions? Does bearing the Final Fantasy VII name but being a totally different game factor in? Are fans likely to be excited coming off the high that (as far as I hear) they were largely satisfied with FFXV? Or will old fans feel like Square Enix is ruining the classic by doing this? This will be interesting to watch unfold.
For Xbox fans, not really since they don't buy JRPGs anyway. However, I think it would be wise of Square Enix to make a Switch port since Nintendo fans buy JRPGs a lot more, especially handheld ones...
Every time I open the inter webs and peruse game forums I see people say these type of games on Sony console don't count and are trash so I don't see why it will matter.
If people already have their minds made up they're getting a Scorpio (when PS5 and Xbox 4 are probably only 2-3 years away anyway doh) then I can't imagine one game would sway them the other way.
And as others have said, Final Fantasy 7 Remake could be setting itself up to fail, we'll have to see more at E3
I think if SFV, FF7 and Shenmue 3 were announced as full exclusives, they would have been the biggest mega tons I can think of. As for timed exclusivity, it's just a waste of money. It wouldn't effect my decision, like I can wait for a game.
It will sell a lot of hardware like any hyped exclusive does. Why do you think the act of providing incentives to obtain exclusives continues to exist?
This game is for JRPG fans and I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of this group already prefers Playstation over Xbox. Most of the people that only own Xbox consoles probably don't care much for the JRPG genre otherwise they never would have chosen to only own Xbox.
So no, I don't think PS4 timed exclusivity or even permanent exclusivity would be a big deal because this isn't the type of game that most Xbox fans will care about and anybody that can only have one console and is a big JRPG fan has already picked Playstation over Xbox a long time ago. Now, if it was the other way around, where Xbox was going to have this game as an exclusive then it would be a big deal since the majority of people that would want to play this game are Playstation fans and they would have to decide if this game is worth getting a Xbox for.

lol, this is sadly true. SE may just get away with this!

Well the graphics is why I didn't sell well. The fans who asked for a turn based final fantasy got it with world of final fantasy but those same people are upset about the graphics and completely ignored it. The game is great, I believe there is a demo still on playstatioin 4, anyway the game is literally a love letter to the final fantasy world. Do keep in mind that you are playing the game for it's gameplay and references though, unless you can appreciate how stupid the main guy is (which I do since I laugh at it), then that might upset you. It has pokemon things (capturing) but it has more depth than that since you do stuff like stacking different size monsters for puzzles and combat, unevolving something to fit a size need, etc etc.
Game is pretty linear though, albeit you can keep fighting things through random encounters to catch everything/train
I am confused about the exclusivity of Death Stranding, FF7 Remake and the Crash trilogy.
They are all being billed as PS4 exclusives but rumors say they will come to PC or even Xbox.
None of them are going to Xbox. Especially Death Stranding since Sony owns it and it is being published by Sony as well as using Killzone's engine. Don't listen to rumors from fanboys. Sony owns the rights to the first 3 Crash games, which is why the trilogy is being made, but they just can not make new Crash games. FF7 remake could go anywhere, but no point in putting it on Xbox since FF flops on Xbox. a PC port could happen, but Square has not said anything about porting it.

The rumor says time exclusivity is only of 2 months. Exclusive deal so short hardly matters. Secondly FF7 is overrated.
Seems like just like any other timed release...doesn't really have much of an impact. If people want to wait they will. I know some people are willing to wait for a PC version of Final Fantasy XV which isn't even confirmed; rumors as of now...
I'm excited for a remake of Final Fantasy VII, but turned off by the episodic remake. Rather wait until they'll release and sell the "Final Fantasy VII: Complete Package" edition later on...lmao

Deathstranding - Exclusive
Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy - Exclusive
FF7 - Multiplat

Death Stranding will be on PlayStation 4 and PC only according to Kojima where he explicitly stated his next project would be as such, this is said project. Sony has no controlling rights or stake in relation to anything Crash Bandicoot related, they never did, it was owned entirely by Universal Interactive Studios however co-published with Sony Interactive Entertainment as a deal for them to retain platform exclusivity at the time. Activision currently holds all the rights to the franchise so they can do anything they want with it including releasing it for PC, Xbox One, Switch etc. For Final Fantasy VII it's almost a certainty that it will come to Xbox One, it says "Play it first on PlayStation 4", we know exactly where these games stand with the PC, there's not a lot of fondness and console focus is always priority for these guys.
Anyone thinking this won't be on Xbox are off their rocker....
JRPGs don't really sell there. I think it will eventually hit PC though. Not sure when though.

Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts III... Xbox One.... No PC....
It's pretty obvious where this is going, and it's not what you're thinking...

I'm thinking I don't know. It's an old game.
